#6BestHop - 1/31/16 - A Dom's Dilemma - Forgetting who's the Dom #BDSM #Spanking

He demanded her obedience, but what she wanted was his love.

It's the last day of January and Sunday's Six of the Best again. That means I get to share another 6 paragraphs from one of my books.  Yay!

My submission for this week is from my 4th book, A Dom's Dilemma, a BDSM/spanking novel that is sometimes playful, sometimes serious and sometimes terrifying, published by Blushing Books.  Kelly and Jim, the two main characters, were secondary characters in Arrested by Love.  Though this story stands on its own, if you read Arrested by Love, you'll most likely recognize some of the scenes, since we see a little bit of Kyle and Tiffany in this book, too.

In this excerpt, near the end of Chapter Five, Jim Evans and Kelly Franklin are together at "The Velvet Chains," a BDSM club where they met that evening.  Kelly is receiving some aftercare after a session of intensive medical play she did with Jim that seemed a lot more real than play.  Aftercare is an important part of the BDSM experience.  Both the Dom and the sub seek reassurance from the other.  Jim enjoys holding Kelly, and she likes being in his arms, so this is a quiet period of reflection and getting to know each other. Problem is, when Jim asks Kelly a question she really doesn't want to answer, her evasion serves as an admission she's lied to him.

Normally, a Dom would punish a sub for that infraction, but Jim has told Kelly he'll give her a onetime pass. Before they do anything else, however, he suggests they get to know each other a little better.  He begins by asking her some pertinent questions, which eventually lead to the topic of trust.  When Kelly admits that she probably trusts him more not to hurt her than anyone else, he's pleased, but remains cautious.  He informs her, in no uncertain terms, that he can be a controlling SOB who expects a lot, but he gives back in return.  If she chooses to remain as his sub, he'll expect her to be open and honest with about everything in her life. Even those things she might not want to share, but for the moment he's content to simply know more about what she likes. Curious about her new Dom as well, Kelly asks him about his family. He hesitates for a moment, then admits his younger sister was brutally murdered. Kelly feels terrible and promptly gives him a hug. Hugging her back, he promptly lightens the mood by confessing his desire to catch her murderer is what prompted him to become a detective. Kelly isn't surprised as she tells him he's very good at asking questions.

"You think?" he asked with a laugh.
            Kelly nodded.  "Uh huh."
"Well then, where do you work, darlin'?"
"J.C. Medical."  At his arched eyebrow, she added, "I'm the personal assistant to the Vice-President of Marketing."
"I see.  So, tell me.  What exactly does a "personal assistant' to a Vice-President at J.C. Medical do?"
"Nothing exciting, I assure you.  I schedule my boss's meetings, take phone messages for him, do his filing….  Pretty much anything a company executive requires."
"And does your boss require you to fulfill any duties more personal in nature?"
Surprised he'd even ask her that question, Kelly smacked him on the shoulder without thinking.  "Hey, what do you think I am?"

Kelly knows she makes a lousy sub.  She has a temper and a mouth that constantly get her into trouble, but she sees something in Jim that makes her want more of the type of mastering only he could give her, except she's not sure she can give him all the honesty he expects in return.

#SatSpanks - 1/30/16 - Acting Lessons - A childish and foolish reaction #DD #KissMeKate

Peter loved Kate with all his being, but that didn't mean he'd tolerate an ultimatum from her.

Reading this material at Work could get you spanked.

Welcome to the Saturday Spankings blog hop.  My stories are all M/f with the dominant male determined to protect the woman he cares for and loves, or grows to love, by doing whatever it takes to ensure her safety and continued health.  This includes administering a spanking when she needs one.

My submission for this week is from my third spanking romance titled, Acting Lessons
He was a strict and demanding college professor turned professional director who excelled at giving acting lessons.  She was his shy and uncertain former student who became a professional actress under his tutelage.  They fell in love, married, and won two Tony Awards before tragedy struck and a simple kiss ripped them apart.

After a six month separation, Peter Thorton decides to take matters into his own hands by making his famous wife, Kate, an offer she wouldn't refuse.  Plainly put, he wants her back and he intends to do whatever is necessary to achieve his goal, even if it means giving his stubborn, willful leading lady a daily reminder over his knee that she promised to obey him.

Setup: After injuring her knee and spending a few hours in the hospital, Kate ends up sleeping in Peter's bed.  He's taken very good care of her and she's torn between allowing him to continue leading the dance they've started, or leaving before she gets hurt again.  Her heart is still bruised and tender and she's not entirely sure she trusts her ex-husband not to hurt her again.  Though he's warned her to call him before she gets out of bed, Kate decides she needs to be less dependent on him, and more self-reliant.  However, she didn't expect to get caught. Though Peter is not above teaching Kate a lesson, he chooses instead to carry her over to the breakfast table that Consuelo set up in their bedroom. Consuelo has fixed one of Kate's favorites and she is audibly showing her appreciation. Peter waits until she's had her fill before he addresses Kate's disobedience the day before by asking her why she won't simply admit she'd been jealous

Kate put down her napkin.  "Look, Peter, I accept that I was acting childish and foolish yesterday.  It was a stupid reaction that only ended up hurting me more in the end."
            "Isn't that what you wanted?"
            "Excuse me?"
"You couldn't punish me, although you wanted to, so instead you punished yourself, knowing how much I wouldn't like it."
"Did you take a psychology course, or something, while we were separated?"
"No, but I've given a lot of thought about what happened between us six months ago, and I think the situation was similar in some ways.  You expected me to make a stand then, and I didn't.  I probably should have, but I didn't.  That was my fault, and I'll tell you now that I won't make that same mistake twice."

Even Kate realizes what she did was wrong, but admitting jealously only brings back bad memories.
M/F, DD and a staged production of Kiss Me, Kate.

Frisky Friday - 1/29/16 - A Simple Misunderstanding - Elly gets corner time #CorbinsBend #DD

It's Frisky Friday!  Yay!  And I'm sharing another excerpt from my first spanking romance in the Corbin's Bend series, A Simple Misunderstanding.

He came to her rescue when she needed him most, almost to lose her when she disobeyed him.

In this scene, which begins Chapter 12, Eleanor Benson (Elly) is due to be released from the hospital, after a five day stay.  Gerald Douglas (Jerry, who is Corbin Bend's vet) has been at her side almost the whole time, but he had to leave the day before for an emergency when a pet dog was run over by a car.  When he called Elly that evening to tell her he was driving back to Denver, she sounded strange on the phone, but insisted he remain in Corbin's Bend, claiming she wanted to go to sleep early. Certain she was not telling him the truth, he pressed a little harder only to have say she had to hang up because a nurse just came in.  Convinced something was up, he calls the nurse's station, but they claim Elly is alone and nothing out of the ordinary has happened.  He stays home as she wanted, but remains ill at ease.  When he arrives at the hospital the next morning, Elly is nearly in a panic, so he promptly assumes control by drawing Elly down on his lap and getting her to tell him what's wrong. However, even Jerry didn't expect Elly's abusive husband, Arthur, to try and get her in the hospital. He tells Brent what he knows and lets him work on being a detective while he addresses Elly's attempted deceit.

Jerry kept eye contact with Elly as he put his phone back.
“You’re not going to tell me what Brent said, are you?”
“Maybe later, not now.”
“What do you intend to do?” He heard the unease creeping into her voice, but she remained on his lap.
“Have you eaten breakfast, yet?” At her nod, he said, “I consider lying to be a serious offense, as I’ve told you more than once. Normally, I’d turn you over my knee and spank your pretty little butt until it glowed a bright pink, then make you stand in the corner with your arms over your head for at least fifteen minutes before we discussed why you chose to break my faith and trust in you. However, for many reasons, I don’t consider that an option right now. So….”
She held her breath and regarded him through worried eyes, but remained silent.
“Instead, I’m going to put you in the corner and have you stand, with your arms straight at your sides, for five minutes.” He adjusted the time considering her weakened state. “After that, you’ll sit on your bed in silent confinement for fifteen minutes. When your confinement is over, we’ll talk about why you chose to lie to me and how doing so might have put you in even more danger.”

Elly doesn't want to put Jerry in a position where he could get hurt, so she tries to avoid telling him what happened to get her so upset. However, he already suspects she's keeping something from him, and Jerry views omissions to be the same as lying, for which he has zero tolerance.  Given her fragile condition, he needs to tread carefully, since he wants to stress a point, not cause her more distress.

M/F Domestic Discipline in Colorado.

Blurb:

Though Arthur and Eleanor Benson have been practicing domestic discipline for three months since their wedding, he insists moving to Corbin's Bend, where domestic discipline is the norm rather than the exception, will revitalize their marriage. Elly has doubts, but since Arthur is the undisputed head of their household, they move. However, once Arthur becomes immersed in a community where spanking is not only permitted, but encouraged, his personality undergoes a dramatic change. Accusing his submissive wife of being lazy, disorganized and disobedient, he employs creative methods of pain and humiliation to mold Elly from the imperfect woman he married into the perfect woman he desires. And Elly finds herself a virtual prisoner in her own home, accountable only to the man who rules her life with a cane.

In his years as a vet, Jerry Douglas has seen what abuse does to animals, and he recognizes those same signs in Elly Benson during her daily escape to the dog park with her tiny poodle. Jerry steadfastly supports the tenets of domestic discipline and enjoys the freedom Corbin's Bend offers its residents, but he remains fiercely protective of anyone in need of a champion. And when he witnesses evidence of harsh handling, his instinct is to rush in and rescue. Problem is Elly Benson is a married and consenting adult who insists all her bruises and welts are nothing more than a simple misunderstanding between her and her husband, until the day Arthur Benson takes his authority and discipline one-step too far, endangering Elly's life.

How can you say "no" to this face?

Lessons in Love - Release date January 27, 2016 @KRBWrites #DD #SpankingRomance

She needed a job, he needed a personal assistant. It seemed like a match made in heaven until he laid out the rules he expected her to follow.

It's release week, and I wanted to share a few things about this book. First of all, I want to thank several people who helped me bring Pam and Rob's story to life. Kate Richards for her editorial guidance, Celeste Jones for her valuable input and Staci Taylor for overseeing the project to completion.

Next, I'd like to add that Lessons in Love, like most of my books, has a serious side to it, and it's one I'm personally familiar with. Everyone deals with stress in their own way. When I was in college, I didn't handle it well at all, so I started to hurt myself in order to find relief. I realize now that causing yourself pain to relieve stress sounds contradictory if not paradoxical, but a mind in deep depression often seeks resolutions that a saner mind would reject. In Lessons in Love, Rob ensures Pam understands that causing herself injury in any way, for any reason, is not an acceptable course of action. If she has a desire to feel pain, he'll provide her with whatever she needs.

"Lessons in Love" centers around a wealthy business owner who believes in helping his executive admins using politically incorrect, H.R.unapproved, and therefore clandestine, Domestic Discipline techniques.  Since DD isn't for everyone, he does tend to go through admins rather frequently.  However, he also makes sure if they choose not to work for him because of his unorthodox management style, that they are given another suitable position in his company if they wish to stay, or a handsome severance package if they choose to leave.

This excerpt takes place after Pam purposefully cuts herself to ease her tense frustration over Rob's high-handed decision to move all her things to his place without her permission. Though Rob apologizes for not discussing the matter over with Pam earlier, he insists that her cutting is far too serious for him to dismiss without a consequence. He needs her to fully accept that if she needs to feel pain, he'll provide it.

Pam slipped into a short pink nightie with a fringe of lace at her neck, arms and hips, sat down as instructed, and waited while her stomach twisted itself into knots. He didn't keep her waiting long, thank goodness. However, when he returned, he laid three objects at the foot of her bed then straightened and faced her.
"I debated for several minutes about this. I don't want you to fear what we'll do together, but cutting yourself is far too serious for a simple hand spanking."
Pam blinked while a small voice in her head urged her to run away as fast as she could. Those objects looked like they would hurt. A lot.
Holding out a hand, Rob said, "Come here, and we'll discuss the pros and cons of each of these implements. Since you are so new to this, I decided to let you select the one I'll use."
Pam remained seated. "What if I choose none of them?"
"Not an option I'm offering, tonight."
"But it still remains an alternative, doesn't it? Or would you force me to submit to this?"
He crossed his arms over his chest. "No. I wouldn't force you. At least not this time."
Her head snapped up at his statement. "But in the future, you might?"
"I prefer to think of it as determined persuasion, rather than force. But I'm sure there'll be times when I think you need a spanking, and you'll disagree. Refusal won't be a choice then, either."
Frowning, she shook her head. "I'd fight you."
"Yes. I suspect you would."
Though he didn't voice it, his warning was implied. If she tried to struggle, she'd lose. Pam rubbed her arms, suddenly chilled. He had conditions. If she didn't agree with them, she could leave his employ. Her choices were relatively simple. Allow him to take a paddle to her, or end their relationship. Turning away, she blinked back her traitorous tears.

Pam Weston has worked in Robert Peterson's company for nearly six months as a temp when she is reassigned to the President's office.  She has caught glimpses of Mr. Peterson when she temped on the executive floor, but she never expected she'd be summoned to work for him.  Pam has a criminal record and a murky past, which has made her practically unemployable, and yet now H.R. has assigned her to work for the president of their company, and after her first day she suspects working for Mr. Peterson will be a very different experience.

Blurb:

Pam Weston didn't have many choices as far as employment went. Her prison sentence saw to that. With limited secretarial skills, and an even more limited budget, she never considered herself executive material. So, when she was ordered to report to the CEO of her company as his new personal assistant, she fully expected to be checking out the "Help Wanted" section of the paper before the day was over.

Robert Peterson knew his management style was not HR approved, but he believed in using the stick as well as the carrot. Employing the tenets of domestic discipline, he helped mold his personal assistants into confident women who recognized their own self-worth. Even so, his unorthodox methods were only one of the reasons many considered the position of his assistant to be a revolving door. To Rob's mind, Pamela Weston was perfect for his purposes, though given her past he expected convincing her would be a challenge.

Though it is a fantasy, and takes place in an incredibly short period of time (part of the fantasy), the characters seem very real to me, and I'm in love with Rob who has a perfect combination of sternness combined with understanding, and he likes to cuddle.

#MFRWHooks - 1/27/16 - Lessons in Love - A very private club #DD #SpankingRomance @KRBWrites

She needed a job, he needed a personal assistant. What could go wrong?

Welcome back to Book Hooks, a regular Wednesday feature! In this blog loop, we hope to provide you with some tantalizing tidbits in our books.

My submission for this week's Book Hooks is from my 8th novel, Lessons in Love.

To Rob's mind, Pamela Weston was perfect for his purposes, though given her past he expected convincing her to agree to his program would be a challenge.

In this scene, which occurs in chapter eight, Robert Peterson is treating his new executive assistant, Pam Weston, to dinner at his private club.

A footman greeted Mr. Peterson by name when they entered the establishment’s foyer, as another gentleman in livery approached them. This club of his employed footmen?
"Everything is prepared for you, Mr. Peterson, as you requested. If you will follow me, sir." The footman led them toward a tall, curving staircase.
Taking note of the club-like atmosphere, complete with a gentlemen's reading room, Pam began to wonder if she should suggest they dine at a more public place when she realized most of the "dining rooms" they passed along the upstairs hall featured large four-poster beds. These men all ate in bed? Talk about the epitome of decadence.
Pam breathed a sigh of relief when the room they were escorted to appeared to be a private parlor rather than a bedroom. She liked Mr. Peterson, but she wasn't ready to sleep with him…yet.
"This is an unusual place," she murmured after Mr. Peterson assisted her into the chair facing the elegantly curtained floor-to-ceiling windows and placed her back to the door. Once she was seated, he took the seat directly across from her.
"I enjoy the privacy along with the amenities this club provides," he admitted, snapping out his napkin. "The ambiance offers variety, and their food isn't bad. Not equal to five stars, but comparable to a good restaurant."
Pam laid her napkin on her lap and glanced at the menu. Hers didn't list any prices, but eating was the last thing she wanted to do right then. In fact, she thought it might be best if he just took her home. Despite the room’s clean smell of lemon polish and subtle potpourri, something about this gentleman’s club caused her stomach to knot uncomfortably.

Rob knows Pam is nervous, and took her to his club so she could ask him questions with far more privacy than a restaurant would offer. Unfortunately, the ambiance of his club is making her very uncomfortable.

#WIPitUp - 1/27/16 - Past Interference - Caught going against orders #DD #CorbinsBend

WIP: Work in progress.  WIP it up Wednesday is a hop where writers share portions of the project they're working on with readers.  I really like the idea because it allows me to share something that's still in the creative stage as well as work behind the scenes as a prompt to keep me writing.

Today, I'm sharing an excerpt from my spanking novella in the Corbin's Bend series, Past Interference. Written as a sequel to A Simple Misunderstanding, Past Interference is available as part of the Corbin's Bend Valentine's Day collection "Love in the Rockies," and is not sold separately.

What she needed was the opposite of what she wanted.

In this scene, which occurs near the beginning of Chapter Four, Eleanor Benson (Elly) is home from the hospital after nearly being choked to death by her ex-husband. Her throat is bruised, so she's forbidden to speak until her doctor gives the okay. However, letting a call from your best friend go to voice mail when you're bored out of your mind is criminal. Isn't it?

Elly tried flipping through channels, but daytime television was nothing but game shows, soap operas and court TV. Giving Muffin’s head a pat, she thought she might nap for a bit when her cell phone rang. After checking the display and seeing it was Char, Elly pressed the talk button and croaked, “Hi.” Even that single word made her throat hurt. Her voice sounded like she’d swallowed a handful of gravel and was attempting to gargle around it.
“Elly! I didn’t expect you to answer; I was just going to leave a message. Brent said you’re not supposed to talk. You aren’t, are you? Supposed to talk, I mean.”
“No.” Elly winced and put a hand to her aching throat.
“Then don’t say anything, and I’ll do enough talking for both of us. Maybe I should come over instead. Brent mentioned you’re using a small whiteboard to communicate, but I don’t want to bother you, especially if you’re not well.”
“It’s okay.”
“It doesn’t sound ‘okay.’ Look, I have a recipe for an ice-cream shake that helps soothe sore throats. Why don’t I make a couple of them up, and come over around lunchtime?”
“Sounds good.”
“What do you think you’re doing, young lady?” The familiar male voice sounded distinctly irritated and Elly knew she was in trouble. “Who’s on the phone?” he inquired sternly.
“Char,” Elly answered after her heart started beating again. She hadn’t heard him return, and Muffin’s small tail thumps under the covers weren’t enough to alert her they were no longer alone.
Scowling, he pointed to her board and held his hand out for the phone. “You write; I’ll talk.”

Knowing she's been caught disregarding doctor's orders and disobeying Jerry causes a sick feeling to roil in the pit of Elly's stomach, but she also doesn't feel what she did was all that egregious. Not really.

M/F Domestic Discipline in Colorado.

Blurb:

Valentine's Day in Corbin's Bend.  As Elly Benson readies herself for her second wedding, the doubts and misgivings of any new bride-to-be are exacerbated by the abuse she suffered during her first marriage.

Though she's lived with Jerry Douglas for four months now, and been subject to his discipline more than once, Elly's first husband had been kind and careful with her, too, until the day she vowed to love, honor and obey him.  The lessons she's learned from the past make her doubt she can ever find happiness in the future.

Guest Post - 1/26/16 - Spy Games Book Two: Stolen Love by Heather Hart #Erotic #Suspense

Heather Hart has dropped by to give us information on the second book in her Spy Games series: "Stolen Love."

Excerpt:

"Time to take things to the next level." He punched in a message: Game for a little wife swapping?
He stared at the message for a second, his thumb hovering over the Send button. The message itself made him sick to his stomach, but then he thought of all the innocent women and men who just disappeared, and he steeled himself. He had a job to do. With a heartfelt sigh he hit Send. If he had to do it, might as well get it over with.
He dropped the phone on the bed and looked over to his half-eaten sandwich, but his appetite was gone. He should never have gotten into this with Kassie. She meant too much to him. It was not like he had a choice though; for a good submissive, she had a will of iron outside the bedroom.
Ping! He picked up the phone. The reply was from Alex.
Sure. Where and when?
Robert typed his response. Tonight too soon?
The reply was instant. My hotel room. Nine o'clock.
Shit. Well, it was done now. He was never going to say no. We're looking forward to it. See you then.
After he sent the message, he dropped the phone on the bed and hoisted himself up. The job sucked, but the worst was to come. He had to tell Kassie. And though she'd know this was their plan from the get-go, he still hated to tell her. Not because he thought she'd be disgusted by the idea. Worse. He was afraid she might enjoy it.

Blurb:

When novice spy Kassie Shannon is given the chance to blow the lid off a human trafficking operation, she jumps right in, feet first. The front man for this criminal operation is a Brit called Alex Weber, a high-flying billionaire playboy with a thing for beautiful women and yachts.

Forever a champion of the neglected and abused, Kassie will do whatever it takes, including using her own body to bring this wealthy slime bag down. Knowing Alex is expected to arrive at Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, she and her partner devise a plan to flush him out into the open. She and Robert Redmond sail down in their small boat to meet Alex.

Although he is her master in the bedroom, Robert can’t help but accede to Kassie’s every whim outside it. But he has met the charming yet ruthless Alex before, and knowing what he is capable of, he fears Kassie may be in over her head.

He sets a close watch on her, but even he can’t be with her twenty-four hours a day. There is always a chance she might slip through his fingers the second his back is turned. And if the amoral, sex-trading Alex manages to get his hands on her, the love of his life could be sold and lost to him forever.
