Welcome to the Saturday Spankings blog hop.  My stories are all M/f with the dominant male determined to protect the woman he cares for and loves, or grows to love, by doing whatever it takes to ensure her safety and continued health.  This includes administering a spanking when she needs one.  

My submission for this week is a selection from my fourth spanking book, A Simple Misunderstanding, a Corbin's Bend novel.  

In this scene, which occurs in the last third of the book, Eleanor Benson (Elly) has moved in with Gerald Douglas (Jerry) after she is released from the hospital, still recovering from injuries she received from her husband.  Jerry insists she stay close to the house and not take her dog walking in the park on the first day she's home.  However, when an older neighbor calls to her from the dog park, Elly disobeys Jerry's instructions and takes their two dogs with her, unaware her abusive husband is lying in wait for her.

When her actions nearly get her killed, Elly finally accepts her only option is to divorce her husband, but after signing the papers, she realizes Jerry is still angry over her disobedience. 

Frustrated by the distance growing between them,  Elly realizes unless she confronts him, Jerry will continue to treat her like an invalid, despite his growing anger. Still, when push comes to shove, and Jerry accepts her challenge, Elly begins to have second thoughts. Covering her unease with bravado, she demands to know what makes him think she's asking to be spanked. 

Despite her reticence to submit, Jerry recognizes Elly's show of defiant disobedience as a cry for him to take action, so he remains adamant without force. Unfortunately, what Elly really wants is for Jerry to take the decision away from her, so her submission is no longer her choice, except that's not how Jerry prefers to do things, but he does when Elly leaves him no choice. So, over his knee she went, but Jerry also wants her to know that his punishment was being given with love even as he insists she promise not to disobey him again after each swat.

When the tenth swat is delivered, Elly's pride crumbles and she bursts into tears.

Knowing she was being foolish, and childish, and totally overreacting, Elly covered her face with her hands and started to sob. “I’m sorry. I’ll try not to be this difficult in the future. Hold me, Jerry. Please don’t let me go.”

He drew her up in his arms. “I have no intention of ever letting you go, so put that idea right out of your head.” Cupping her cheeks in his hands, he kissed her. Her face had to be blotched and her nose all runny, but he didn’t seem to notice as he reassured her with his lips and tongue until every bit of resistance she possessed melted away as if it had never existed. She loved being held by him. When he released her mouth, she curled into his chest like a scared child.

Warm fingers rubbed her shoulders and arms with gentle reassurance. “Now, were those few swats worth all the fuss you put up?”

Elly laughed through her tears, realizing she had kicked and screamed, and he had taken her seriously. Rather than answer, she clung even tighter. His shirt smelled fresh, as if he’d recently removed it from the dryer, while Jerry’s neck exuded the clean, piney fragrance of his soap, his lips still possessed a hint of beer and his arms retained only a trace of the scent she’d associated with his clinic.

 

After being abused by her husband, Elly is antsy about entering into another DD relationship, but she's disobeyed Jerry, and until he forgives her, a part of her will remain unsettled and ill-at-ease.  Rather than continue in limbo, Elly decides to push Jerry into taking action, but getting what she asks for isn't always what she wants.

It's Book Hooks Wednesday!  Yay!  And I'm sharing another excerpt from my new spanking romance in the Corbin's Bend series, A Simple Misunderstanding.  It's sequel, Past Interference is included both in the Love in the Rockies anthology and as a single title release.

In this scene, which occurs in Chapter Six,  Elly Benson is still in the hospital after her husband attacked her.  Jerry Douglas, who has secretly fallen in love in with Elly, remains at her side in the hospital while doctors assess her condition.

Not long after she was settled in her new room, Dr. Pendergast, the surgeon who’d operated on her spleen, came in to go over the results of her CT scan. Jerry didn’t want to leave, but Elly had a right to discuss her care with her doctor without a stranger listening in, even when he was the stranger in question. However, when he rose to depart, she said, “Don’t go.”

Jerry frowned, but resumed his seat.

Pendergast informed Elly her scans looked good. No sign of bleeding in either her abdomen or her head. Then he paused. “Now I need to ask you about the bruising we noticed on your wrists and buttocks.” He turned to Jerry, who gave a nod to indicate he understood which bruises the doctor meant.

“Legally, I must ask. Did your husband cause your injuries?”

Elly swallowed and glanced at Jerry. “Would you explain Corbin’s Bend to him?”

Jerry wanted to object, since he suspected the activities of Corbin’s Bend had little to do with the punishment Arthur had inflicted on his wife, but Elly gave him such a plaintive look, he relented.

Careful to use non-judgmental words, he explained how Corbin’s Bend was a community that catered to individuals who had an interest in domestic discipline. When Pendergast blinked, Jerry added, “Couples who practice DD often employ corporal punishment, which can include spanking, caning and whipping, but it is not considered abuse.”

“What is it, if not abuse?” the doctor asked, clearly unfamiliar with the concept.

“A way to preserve marital harmony through spousal discipline. I can send you some literature if you like, but most partners in DD do not resort to the levels of severity Mrs. Benson experienced.”

 

Jerry understands why Elly doesn't want to remain alone while her surgeon questions her, but he privately hopes the doctor will finally get Elly to admit her husband mistreats her.

#WIPitUP - 9/27/17 - A Simple Misunderstanding - Elly's thoughts wander in dangerous directions #CorbinsBend #DD

WIP: Work in progress.  WIP it up Wednesday is a hop where writers share portions of the project they're working on with readers.  I really like the idea because it allows me to share something that's still in the creative stage as well as work behind the scenes as a prompt to keep me writing.

However, today, I've decided to take a break from my WIP in order to share an excerpt from my first book in the Corbin's Bend series, A Simple Misunderstanding, where I tackle the problem of recognizing and addressing spousal abuse in a liberal spanking community. The community's residents right to privacy is paramount, and sometimes rough play can produce bruises that appear similar to abuse. So, as long as both partners deny any problems exist, the community can't take action. To do so would jeopardize the very foundation of what they've struggled so hard to build.

In this scene, which occurs in Chapter 3, Gerald Douglas (Jerry, who is the Corbin's Bend veterinarian) suspects Eleanor Benson (Elly) is being abused. So, he's asked her mentor, Kelli Stevens, to check on her. Both submissives and dominants are assigned mentors in Corbin's Bend to help them with any issues or questions they might have about the domestic discipline dynamic. Though Elly likes Kelli, she blames herself for any problems she and Arthur may be experiencing, so she's not been entirely honest with her mentor. Kelli suspects this and asks if Elly would prefer to have a younger mentor. Elly is surprised by the question, so Kelli points to the bruises on Elly's wrists. Bruises left by the handcuffs Arthur had put on her the night before. Elly promptly covers the marks, insisting they were her fault for struggling so hard. Kelli isn't sure she believes Kelly, but other than calling Elly a liar she has no choice but to accept the younger woman's word.

Kelli rose and Elly quickly followed her mentor to the door. “Thank you for stopping by, Kelli.”

“We’re here for you, dear. Don’t ever forget that. If you need help, or have any questions, call me. Any time. Day or night. All right?”

Elly gave another nod. “You’re very kind. Thank you again.”

With a smile, Kelli left and Elly sank against her closed front door. They meant well. All of them. But they didn’t understand. And they weren’t helping.

Once Elly had finished her vacuuming and dusting, she showered and changed into a dress, since Arthur didn’t approve of her wearing jeans or slacks. He was old-fashioned that way, but Elly didn’t mind. She liked putting on dresses and heels. Sitting on the edge of the bed to draw up her stockings, she wondered whether Dr. Douglas objected to women wearing pants. She found herself thinking of the vet often and knew she shouldn’t, which was one of the reasons she’d been avoiding taking Muffin back to the park. Their fenced in backyard sufficed to give the tiny poodle exercise, and even though Muffin enjoyed playing with Jack, Jerry's black lab, Elly didn’t want to risk Arthur’s displeasure by spending too much time with their handsome vet. Then again, Arthur couldn’t care less who Elly visited with at the dog park as long as her visits didn’t take any of her time or attention away from him.

 

Though a part of her knows she wasn't being entirely truthful with Kelli, Elly blames herself for her husband's firm discipline. She's convinced if she just tries a little harder things will be better between them.

“Do you enjoy your DD relationship with your husband?”

Blinking, Elly wondered what part about domestic discipline she was supposed to enjoy. Did anyone actually enjoy getting spanked? Not in her opinion, they didn’t. She certainly didn’t enjoy Arthur’s punishments. Did she deserve his discipline? Most times, yes. Did she love him? She tried to, but his strict inflexibility angered her sometimes. He’d changed once they’d moved to Corbin’s Bend, but he’d said she’d become lazy and disorganized and needed a firmer hand now. Where was the enjoyment in that? “I think the discipline is what I need to be a better person,” she answered carefully.

“But you can’t say you enjoy it. I don’t mean the punishments, but the rest.”

What rest? What else was there? “I’m still learning, Kelli. It’s not easy.”

Kelli patted her arm. “No, it isn’t. But if you two love each other, you’ll work things out.”

Relieved, Elly nodded more vigorously this time. “I’m sure we will.”

Frisky Friday - 6/24/16 - A Simple Misunderstanding - Facing Consequences #CorbinsBend #DD

It's Frisky Friday!  Yay!  And I'm sharing another excerpt from my first spanking romance in the Corbin's Bend series, A Simple Misunderstanding.

He came to her rescue when she needed him most, almost to lose her when she disobeyed him.

In this scene, which begins Chapter 12, Eleanor Benson (Elly) is due to be released from the hospital, after a five day stay.  Gerald Douglas (Jerry, who is Corbin Bend's vet) has been at her side almost the whole time, but he had to leave the day before for an emergency when a pet dog was run over by a car.  When he called Elly that evening to tell her he was driving back to Denver, she sounded strange on the phone, but insisted he remain in Corbin's Bend, claiming she wanted to go to sleep early. Certain she was not telling him the truth, he pressed a little harder only to have say she had to hang up because a nurse just came in.  Convinced something was up, he calls the nurse's station, but they claim Elly is alone and nothing out of the ordinary has happened.  He stays home as she wanted, but remains ill at ease.  When he arrives at the hospital the next morning, Elly is nearly in a panic, so he promptly assumes control by drawing Elly down on his lap and getting her to tell him what's wrong. However, even Jerry didn't expect Elly's abusive husband, Arthur, to try and get her in the hospital. He tells Brent what he knows and lets him work on being a detective while he addresses Elly's attempted deceit. Due to her compromised health, Jerry decides on five minutes of corner time followed by fifteen minutes of silent confinement, which Elly hasn't heard of before.

“Do you know what shunning is?”

She met his gaze then. “Isn’t that an Amish practice involving ostracizing?”

“Yes. The individual becomes a non-person who no one in the community will speak to or look at. It’s a silent treatment of sorts, but includes rejection steeped in disapproval in addition to no communication.”

“You would shun me?”

“Essentially, yes.”

She considered his answer for a moment, then asked, “Where do you want me to stand?”

Giving a light tap to Elly’s hip, Jerry said, “Stand up, and I’ll help you.” A huge weight pressed on Elly’s shoulders as she rose and let him position her in the corner by the window. As punishments went, this was nothing, and yet her entire frame trembled as he placed her arms at her sides. Once she stood the way he wanted, he pressed his body into hers as if in silent support. She leaned against him.

“Shh,” he whispered, placing a kiss near her ear as he wrapped his arms around her. “I’ll be right here the entire time. If you feel dizzy, raise a hand or call my name, either way I’ll come get you and help you sit. I don’t think standing for five minutes will be a problem for you physically, but you’re still healing, so we need to make allowances. Though this is a punishment, it is not intended to cause you pain or discomfort, merely time for reflection. I want you to consider why you thought lying to me was your best or only course of action. What you hoped to gain and what you lost instead. All right?”

His words and presence reassured her, but she still felt like she’d let him down. When she gave a nod, he took a step back. She could still sense him standing less than a foot away, waiting to catch her if she grew unsteady for any reason, and his consideration for her well-being wrapped her in a warm blanket of concern. Jerry Douglas was so unlike Arthur in so many respects. He even applied his punishments with a caring hand. For all the times Arthur had said he intended his corrections as loving reminders, she’d never received an ounce of care from him, except the one time she had fainted. What radiated from Arthur during a punishment was disappointment in her inadequacies and disapproval of her actions.

Though Jerry had expressed disappointment in the choice she’d made, nothing in his words or actions indicated he found her lacking. Even her apparent weakness was only a condition for concern, not rebuke. So, why were tears running down her cheeks?

 

Elly doesn't want to put Jerry in a position where he could get hurt, so she tries to avoid telling him what happened to get her so upset. However, he already suspects she's keeping something from him, and Jerry views omissions to be the same as lying, for which he has zero tolerance.  Given her fragile condition, he needs to tread carefully, since he wants to stress a point, not cause her more distress.

It's Book Hooks Wednesday!  Yay!  And I'm sharing another excerpt from my new spanking romance in the Corbin's Bend series, A Simple Misunderstanding.  It's sequel, Past Interference is included both in the Love in the Rockies anthology and as a single title release.

He came to her rescue when she needed him most, almost to lose her when she disobeyed him.

In this scene, which occurs in Chapter Six,  Elly Benson is still in the hospital after her husband attacked her.  Jerry Douglas, who has secretly fallen in love in with Elly, remains at her side in the hospital while doctors assess her condition.

The next day Elly’s surgeon upgraded her condition from intensive care to a regular room, so they wheeled her up in a wheelchair around 4 PM. Prior to her move, she’d been taken downstairs in her bed for another CT scan of her brain and abdomen. She’d been required to drink several ounces of contrast fluid, which meant they had to remove her catheter, since they needed a full bladder for the test. Jerry stepped out of the area to give her some privacy while the catheter was removed, but returned and sat with her while she swallowed down the large container of liquid and waited for the nurse and technician to come get her. They didn’t put a new catheter in, so once she got back to the ICU, the first thing she did was tell the nurse she needed to pee. Then she blushed because she’d said “pee” in front of him.

“Trust me, sweetheart, I’ve seen and heard much worse than that.” Smiling, he stepped out of the room again while the nurse helped Elly into the bathroom and back into bed.

Still limited to a clear liquid diet, she was allowed broth and flavored gelatin for lunch along with a beverage. She offered no complaint. In fact, he didn’t think she minded not being able to eat. Her tummy probably still hurt enough the thought of food made her a little nauseated.

They spoke of inconsequential things throughout the day, though he gently tried a few times to steer her into discussing the incident that brought her to the hospital, but she’d change the subject whenever he made the attempt.

He didn’t press.

Not long after she was settled in her new room, Dr. Pendergast, the surgeon who’d operated on her spleen, came in to go over the results of her CT scan. Jerry didn’t want to leave, but Elly had a right to discuss her care with her doctor without a stranger listening in, even when he was the stranger in question. However, when he rose to depart, she said, “Don’t go.”

 

Jerry understands why Elly doesn't want to remain alone while her surgeon questions her, but he privately hopes the doctor will finally get Elly to admit her husband abuses her.
