#6BestHop - 10/2/16 - Acting Lessons - Peter sets the tone #KissMeKate #DD

Peter loved Kate with all his being, but that didn't mean he'd tolerate an ultimatum from her.

For Sunday's Six of the Best, we share six paragraphs from a published work or a WIP (work in progress).

My submission for this week is from my 5th book, Acting Lessons, loosely based on the story of Kiss Me Kate.

He was a strict and demanding college professor turned professional director who excelled at giving acting lessons.  She was his shy and uncertain former student who became a professional actress under his tutelage.  They fell in love, married, and won two Tony Awards before tragedy struck and a simple kiss ripped them apart.

After a six month separation, Peter Thorton decides to take matters into his own hands by making his famous wife, Kate, an offer she wouldn't refuse.  Plainly put, he wants her back and he intends to do whatever is necessary to achieve his goal, even if it means giving his stubborn, willful leading lady a daily reminder over his knee that she promised to obey him.

In this scene, which occurs early in the first chapter, Peter Thorton, seated comfortably in an agent's office, is attempting to convince his wife, Kate, to give their marriage a second chance by signing her to appear with him in a College Summer Stock production of "Kiss Me Kate."  Kate isn't sure she can trust Peter with her heart again, since she believes he's been unfaithful to her, but she's never stopped loving him.  And though Domestic Discipline originally played a part in their marriage, their last two years together had them living like polite strangers sharing the same house.

Peter realizes he made a mistake in letting Kate do as she pleased, so he's determined to rectify matters immediately by informing his famous wife that if she keeps acting like a brat, he will turn her over his knee. Furious, Kate makes the mistake of challenging her husband, so he proves to her his threats are no longer idle.

The spanking provides an emotional release for Kate, and she ends up crying in Peter's arms. Once she gets herself under control, Kate attempts to apologize, but Peter cuts her off with a kiss then informs her he wants them to have dinner together. Feeling cornered. Kate informs him she has a previous engagement she is not willing to cancel, but Peter presses until finally Kate grows petulant. When she complains that he can't just turn her over his knee whenever she disagrees with him, he warns her he won't hesitate to do whatever is necessary to improve her attitude if she continues to be snippy with him. Realizing this was an argument she couldn't win, Kate backs down and agrees to do the show with him, but refuses to cancel her ballet lessons. He relents, but gently warns her that he expects her to be careful of her knee, since he doesn't want her risking another meniscus tear.

When Kate nodded, Peter drew his brows together in a frown.  His orders deserved the respect of a verbal acknowledgment.  Finally, she answered in a near whisper, "Yes, sir."
He gave another nod of approval.  "Good.  So we understand each other, if I think you're putting too much stress on that joint, you and I will be having a different private discussion.  And that one won't be nearly as enjoyable as this last one was."
"I don't have to agree," she challenged, attempting to pull her hand away, but he tightened his grasp
"That is true, you don't.  However, you will.  Won't you?"
When Kate shook her head, Peter started to dispute her response, but reconsidered when her agent chose that moment to return with the revised contract.
            "All set?" Don inquired.

Kate pushed, so Peter pulled.  Temporarily reconciled, Kate has to decide whether to give into his wishes or stand firm so he doesn't think she's lost her backbone. In a case of push and pull, something has to give, so they both compromise to an extent.

M/F, DD and a staged production of Kiss Me, Kate.

#6BestHop - 8/14/16 - A Dom's Dilemma - Kelly reluctantly submits #BDSM #MedicalPlay

He demanded her obedience, but what she wanted was his love.

It's the last day of January and Sunday's Six of the Best again. That means I get to share another 6 paragraphs from one of my books.  Yay!

My submission for this week is from my 4th book, A Dom's Dilemma, a BDSM/spanking novel that is sometimes playful, sometimes serious and sometimes terrifying, published by Blushing Books.  Kelly and Jim, the two main characters, were secondary characters in Arrested by Love.  Though this story stands on its own, if you read Arrested by Love, you'll most likely recognize some of the scenes, since we see a little bit of Kyle and Tiffany in this book, too.

In this excerpt, near the end of Chapter Five, Jim Evans and Kelly Franklin are together at "The Velvet Chains," a BDSM club where they met that evening.  Kelly is receiving some aftercare after a session of intensive medical play she did with Jim that seemed a lot more real than play.  Aftercare is an important part of the BDSM experience.  Both the Dom and the sub seek reassurance from the other.  Jim enjoys holding Kelly, and she likes being in his arms, so this is a quiet period of reflection and getting to know each other. Problem is, when Jim asks Kelly a question she really doesn't want to answer, her evasion serves as an admission she's lied to him.

Normally, a Dom would punish a sub for that infraction, but Jim has told Kelly he'll give her a onetime pass. Before they do anything else, however, he suggests they get to know each other a little better.  He begins by asking her some pertinent questions, which eventually lead to the topic of trust.  When Kelly admits that she probably trusts him more not to hurt her than anyone else, he's pleased, but remains cautious.  He informs her, in no uncertain terms, that he can be a controlling SOB who expects a lot, but he gives back in return.  If she chooses to remain as his sub, he'll expect her to be open and honest with about everything in her life. Even those things she might not want to share, but for the moment he's content to simply know more about her life until she admits she's still sore. Jim promptly takes her to task for not telling him earlier.

He doubted her face could have looked more dismayed.  "Would I have to go back to the medical station, Sir?" she asked, her voice soft and uncertain even as her nose wrinkled with obvious distaste.  He gave the offending member a firm tap.
"You have to do whatever I say.  It's as simple as that, sub."
"Yes, Sir," she replied, laying her head against his chest and watching him warily.
"Better."  He gave her an approving nod.  "Now, as it happens, I think I've got everything I'll need in my pocket already.  The lighting here is far from ideal, but if you want to risk it, I can examine you through feel and reaction.  Fair warnin' though, doin' that will probably make my inspection more painful."
"May I stay seated on your lap and keep my blanket on, Sir?"
Jim started to shake his head, then reconsidered.  "You goin' shy on me, Kelly girl?"

Kelly knows she makes a lousy sub.  She has a temper and a mouth that constantly get her into trouble, but she sees something in Jim that makes her want more of the type of mastering only he could give her, except she's not sure she can give him all the honesty he expects in return.

Kelly slunk down a bit in his arms, looking guilty.  "I didn't realize my discomfort wasn't normal.  The last instrument you used was larger than the nozzle, and I was still tender from that."  Jim scowled to convey his displeasure and waited.  "So, what do you want to do?"
"What do you think?" he asked coolly.  When she shrank back at his tone, he shook his head.  "You know very well what I want to do, Kellian Franklin.  I want to examine and treat the area if necessary."
Closing her eyes, she let out a soft groan.  "How, Sir?"
"How what?  How would I examine you, or how would I treat you?"
            "Both, Sir."
"The exam could be visual only.  Treatment would be application of an ointment inside and out."

Kelly knows she makes a lousy sub.  She has a temper and a mouth that constantly get her into trouble, but she sees something in Jim that makes her want more of the type of mastering only he could give her, except she's not sure she can give him all the honesty he expects in return.

#6BestHop - 6/12/16 - Past Interference - Anger breeds incaution #DD #CorbinsBend

It's Sunday's Six of the Best!  Yay!  And I'm sharing an excerpt from my new spanking novella in the Corbin's Bend series, Past Interferencethe sequel to A Simple Misunderstanding. Past Interference was originally part of the Corbin's Bend Valentine's Day collection "Love in the Rockies," but is now being sold separately.

What she needed was the opposite of what she wanted.

In this scene, which occurs near the beginning of Chapter Three, Eleanor Benson (Elly) is six days away from getting married again, and her doubts are eating her alive.  After suffering through a bout of stress-related migraines, she's finally gotten up enough courage to tell her husband-to-be that she's not sure she wants to get married.  Jerry knows Elly is nervous, but believed he'd managed to convince her he is nothing at all like her first husband, Arthur, who abused her.  Unfortunately, when he realizes Elly  still thinks he will turn into an abusive monster once they're married, despite all his gentle reassurances, his hurt pride causes him to snap at her in anger before he returns to his vet clinic next door. Elly realizes she's made a serious mistake, but has no idea how to fix things between them, so she decides to go for a walk, hoping the crisp, winter air will help clear her head. As she tromps through the Colorado snow, her tiny toy poodle suddenly goes on guard. Uncertain if her situation constituted an emergency, Elly reaches for her phone and instinctively presses 1 for Jerry's office and puts the phone back in her pocket so the mouthpiece is exposed. Jerry and his receptionist are listening as Elly confronts her ex-husband, who isn't pleased she's planning to marry again, but tells her he wants to explain. Except Arthur's explanation sounds more like rationalization, and Elly is far from mollified by his attempt.

“I disagree. Though I will accept most of the blame for the subsequent events —” He conceded as though he was doing her a favor
“Really? You will? How magnanimous of you. The high and mighty Arthur Benson finally admits he made a mistake. Quick, let me mark my calendar.” The distant whine of a rotary motor caught her attention. Helicopters didn’t normally circle out here, since there was no place for them to land.
“You always did possess a sharp tongue, Eleanor, and I find it just as unattractive now as I did when we were married.” He reached out to grip her chin, but she drew back and stomped the heel of her boot on his toe. She doubted her assault did much damage since he wore hiking boots, but his small grunt of pain gave her a measure of satisfaction.
“Bitch,” he murmured softly. “However, I did not risk jail by coming here today to make threats or argue with you. What’s done is done. I actually came to offer you my apologies. I should never have reacted the way I did, no matter how much you and that wretched mutt of yours provoked me. And combined, you two can be most provoking indeed, wife.”
“Ex-wife,” she corrected, but he had a point. She’d managed to provoke Jerry, too, and he was a saint in comparison to her ex-husband.”
“If you insist — ex-wife. I never suspected you were pregnant, Eleanor. I would have found another way to deal with ‘the matter’ if I’d known.” The whining sound grew closer. Definitely a helicopter. A search party? The notion gave her confidence.
“Neither my unborn child nor I was a ‘matter’ to be dealt with, Arthur. I’m a human being who deserves respect and love, not abuse. Your ‘corrections,’ as you called them, were merely cruel devices meant to intimidate me into submission. You didn’t want to help me; you wanted to hurt me. You enjoyed hearing me cry and beg for mercy. Mercy which you never intended to show.”

Elly knows the worst thing she could do would be to show fear, so she masks her unease with cool bravado. However, as her anger deepens, her unease gets replaced by fury.

M/F Domestic Discipline in Colorado.

Blurb:

Valentine's Day in Corbin's Bend.  As Elly Benson readies herself for her second wedding, the doubts and misgivings of any new bride-to-be are exacerbated by the abuse she suffered during her first marriage.

Though she's lived with Jerry Douglas for four months now, and been subject to his discipline more than once, Elly's first husband had been kind and careful with her, too, until the day she vowed to love, honor and obey him.  The lessons she's learned from the past make her doubt she can ever find happiness in the future.

#6BestHop - 5/29/16 - Arrested by Love - Kyle takes Tiffany over his knee #DD #Spanking

He caught her speeding in a school zone and decided she needed to learn even civil disobedience could have very painful consequences.

Welcome to Sunday's Six of the Best.  For this hop we get to share six paragraphs from a published work or a WIP (work in progress). I've decided to continue on with the excerpts I shared for Sneak Peek Sunday. So, if you've been reading those, these snippets are direct continuations from my previous shares.

My submission for this week is from my 3rd book, Arrested by Love.  A handsome, but strict, police officer  decides a spoiled socialite needs a special lesson in obeying the law.

Tiffany Morgan has been in love with Kyle Sinclair since she was ten years old, when he'd turned her over his knee for attempting to swim in a raging white water river. Though she'd been furious with him at the time, Tiffany never told her family what Kyle did. Instead, she began trailing after him like an annoying younger sister as she tried to gain his attention.

Now, eleven years later, Kyle, a patrol officer, is finding it much more difficult to maintain his distance from the irresistible and vivacious redhead who continues to invent ingenious ways to attract his interest. Though he dismissed her initial attraction to him as infatuation, as she grew-up, his own feelings of desire and protectiveness deepened. So, despite his constant struggle to resist the spirited little minx's lures, Kyle finally has to admit that he is losing the battle--badly.

After Kyle makes it clear to Tiffany that speeding will earn her much more than a ticket from him, he gives into the inevitable and asks her out on a date.  He loves her, but isn't sure he's the right guy for her.  However, he no longer fights the attraction between them as he dates her exclusively, but Tiffany wants more, so she makes her stand, and Kyle makes it clear how her life will change if they get married.  And he persists by asking if she even thought she could live on a budget.  When she informs him she is not fiscally irresponsible, he tells her that if she can live for one month on the budget he sets for her, and show how she'd been able to save the rest of her salary, without going to her daddy for help, he will ask her to marry him.  But after two weeks in a row of going over, Tiffany seeks out her father in a tearful panic. He agrees to bail her out, but warns her that men can forgive a lot, but lying is something they find difficult to excuse.

So, by lying to Kyle, Tiffany finds herself swiftly spiraling downward into a morass of guilt that has her sobbing when he proposes. Confused, Kyle tries to get to the root of the problem as he comforts her, but when she admits she's been less than truthful with him, he demands her full confession. Kyle is more upset over the fact she lied to him than her failure to keep to a budget, so he gives her a choice. She either comes with him quietly and without , a fuss or they separate. When she presses for a time limit, he gives one he hopes she will reject. A year. Aghast, Tiffany insists he's being unfair and asks what she could in return if he was the one in the wrong. Surprised by her reaction, since she is the one who lied, Kyle tells her she could do what he was about to do. Walk away. However, when Tiffany begs him not to leave her, he extends his hand and walks her to his car. After driving her around for a half hour, Kyle takes Tiffany to a small secluded spot where he orders her out of the car and instructs her to select a branch from one of the bushes and strip off its leaves.

Tiffany gazed at Kyle for a moment before she handed him the switch she'd made, then unfastened her skirt and lowered her underwear as he'd ordered.  He flicked the whip-like branch through the air a couple of times while she undressed.  Even though he'd decided against using it, he wasn't above scaring her a little before he discarded it.  Though she stood before him in her blouse and shoes with a straight spine, he noticed the slight trembling in her hands before his gaze lowered to the small patch of red hair that guarded her femininity. The surge of lust he experienced at that sight merely served to increase his anger.  He had hoped to finally make love to her this evening, but it looked like that would be off the agenda tonight as well.
He placed the switch on the ground and crooked an index finger at her.  She winced, but walked over to stand beside him until her knees touched his with barely a moment's hesitation.  He patted his lap.  "You should know the drill by now, Tiffany.  Take your position, please."
She let out a tiny gasp, and he knew she was afraid, but she also knew better than to try to dissuade him.  Looked like his threat of year's separation had had its intended effect.
Laying herself gingerly over his lap, she gave one small sob once she was settled.  He placed his left hand on the middle of her back to steady her, then ran his right hand repeatedly over her buttocks to settle her to his touch.  She was tense, and he needed her to relax a little more so this punishment wouldn't end up being more painful than he intended.  "We didn't discuss how many swats you think you deserve for what you did, Miss Morgan.  So, what would you say is a fair number?"
Her breath coming in small hitches now, she didn't respond right away.  He suspected she would go for the minimum of ten.  So, she surprised him when she said, "Twenty-five."
"A very good number," he praised, "and I concur.  So, twenty-five it is then.  Have you anything you wish to say to me before we begin?"

Tiffany loves Kyle, and wants to prove to him she can will make a good wife, except she's never tried to keep to a budget before, and she quickly discovers it's much harder than she originally thought.  She knows going to her father is against the rules, but she can't face Kyle's disappointment for the second week in a row, so she breaks the rule, convincing herself she'll make it up in another way. However, when she falls short yet again, she begins to feel like a total failure, and actually bursts into tears when Kyle proposes. Despite being a bit relieved when he realizes she hasn't fallen for someone else, Kyle knows it's important for him to set the ground rules for their relationship up front.

#6BestHop - 5/8/16 - A Dom's Dilemma - Jim discovers Kelly's been holding back #BDSM

Even those things she might not want to share, but for the moment he's content to simply know more about her life until she admits she's still sore and he suggestively replies that perhaps he should take a closer look....

Jim expected Kelly to giggle, not flinch away with a wince.  "What's wrong?" he demanded.  Not waiting for an answer, he started to turn her over, but stopped when she placed a slender hand on his chest.
"No.  Please don't, Sir.  I'm all right.  Just a little sore from our last activity."
He shook his head.  "Then somethin's very wrong, Kelly.  I didn't spank you near hard enough for you to still be sore now."
            "Not that activity, Sir."
            "What?  The exam?"
At her reluctant nod, he frowned.  "Not tellin' me you're hurtin' when I specifically told you nothin' should hurt is unacceptable, subbie.  You need to be truthful with me."

Kelly knows she makes a lousy sub.  She has a temper and a mouth that constantly get her into trouble, but she sees something in Jim that makes her want more of the type of mastering only he could give her, except she's not sure she can give him all the honesty he expects in return.

#6BestHop - 4/17/16 - Acting Lessons - Despite her misgivings, Kate agrees #KissMeKate #Spanking

Realizing this was an argument she couldn't win, Kate backs down and agrees to do the show with him.

"It's probably a mistake, but I'll agree to do the show with you."
"The only mistake you could make right now is to piss me off.  That would get you in a lot of trouble."  He eased her off his lap and back into her chair.  "Call Don and sign the contract, then I'll take you to your class.  Afterward, I'm taking you to Smitty's and feeding you."
* * * *
When Kate continued to stare him with a glazed expression, Peter called, "Don…."   While they waited, he regarded Kate intently.  Her blush returned and she angled her face away.  His little lesson must have made more of an impression than he thought.  Not wanting to press her, he extended his hand.  Her gaze met his for a moment before she laid her fingers on his palm.  With a nod, he enfolded her hand in his grasp and gave it a gentle squeeze.
"Good girl," he praised with quiet softness, pleased when she blushed again.  "I assume you're going to the same studio as before."  At her nod, he glanced at her left knee.  "You aren't overdoing things, are you?"
"No.  I keep it wrapped when I practice, and it hasn't been giving me any problems."
"Good to know.  I expect you to pay heed and sit down if it starts bothering you again.  I don't want to risk another tear.  Understood?"

Kate pushed, so Peter pulled.  Temporarily reconciled, Kate has to decide whether to give into his wishes or stand firm so he doesn't think she's lost her backbone. In a case of push and pull, something has to give.

#6BestHop - 4/10/16 - Arrested by Love - Tiffany is ordered to prepare a switch #DD #Spanking

Kyle drove for over a half-hour, taking them to an excluded spot where he parked and just sat looking out the windshield for a few minutes.  Tiffany was totally silent.  She was stiff and wary, though no longer crying.  Unfortunately, he knew that wasn't going to last long.
Wanting to be alone to get his thoughts and emotions together, he turned to her and said, "I want you to get out of the car and go over to that willow and select and prepare an appropriate switch that I can use.  It needs to be about a half-inch thick and flexible.  Once you have done that, I want you stand by that log and wait for me.  Do you understand what I am asking?"  At her small nod, he said, "Then go now, please."
She very slowly opened the door of the car, shut it quietly then walked over to the tree he'd indicated.  He watched her run her fingers along each branch testing for the one she'd choose and knew she'd started crying again.  He shook his head.  He loved her with all his heart, but he couldn't let her get away with lying to him.  Not if he ever hoped to be able to trust her again.
He waited until she'd selected her branch, and watched her delicately pick off all the leaves then try it out.  He could hear the whip sound and saw her wince, then close her eyes.  She took a deep breath then walked over to the log he'd indicated, stood with her back to him and waited.  He knew from experience that the waiting was the worst, and he also knew she was crying as much from guilt as from fear.  Her slumped body posture told him that.  He wasn't making her wait to be cruel.  He wanted to make sure he was fully under control before he punished her.  Whether or not he chose to use the branch she'd prepared was another matter.  He had no wish to cause her injury, only to teach her a lesson.  So, he still needed to decide on the best way to accomplish that.  What would make the most indelible impression on that devious little butt of hers?  What would make her truly regret what she did, and ensure she never did it again?
Grabbing the bottle of lotion he kept in the car, he shoved it deep inside his pocket.  He knew she hated it, except it helped reduce the impact of his chosen punishment, so she would have to accept it.  It also meant he could do nothing to break her skin.  Not that he wanted to, but if he tried to rub that stuff on an open wound, she'd be screaming through next week.  Opening his car door, he got out and walked over to where she stood.
"Remove your skirt and underwear now, please," he ordered taking a seat on the log.
