This post for HHD is from my 2nd book, Deadly Enchantment. A shape-shifting wizard romance published by New Concepts Publishing, Deadly Enchantment concerns a young psychic woman facing off with the dark wizard of Ravenscroft, who she is convinced has brutally slaughtered her sister in a fit of jealousy on their wedding night.

In this segment, Serena Cunningham and Dominic Westcroft have taken shelter in a vacant cottage from a magical and malevolent storm cast by Dominic's brother, Terrence.  When they are able to deflect the charged lightning with a kiss, they realize by coming together their magic is far stronger and more resilient than Terrence's web of evil ever could be.  Accepting their best chance for success over Terrence requires them to join their powers, Dominic makes love to Serena, fully understanding his claiming her virginity will result in consequences that will change both their lives forever.

This segment occurs the morning after Claire Daniels and Germaine St. Justine's third night together.  Germaine has just finished coaxing Claire through a healthy workout session, which he convinced her to do in the nude.

                 By the time they stopped for breakfast, Claire was famished.  Yet, it wasn't hunger that prompted her to sit unfettered and naked at the kitchen counter while she consumed a bowl of cereal, half a grapefruit and cup of coffee.  Being unclothed with Germaine seemed a natural extension of their morning play.  It felt right and incredibly intimate.

                Germaine watched her eat with an indulgent smile.  For the moment his hunger was appeased and he was content to simply look at her.  However, it wasn't long before his strong, tapered fingers moved upwards to trail along her thigh.

Frisky Friday - Going where very few want to go

Read with caution, you may not want to go here...

"A Dom's Dilemma" recently received a rather negative review primarily due to differences in personal taste.  The reviewer was perfectly justified to give her opinions, and I'm glad she left the comments she did because they will help forewarn other readers about some possibly offensive material in my book.

What was missed in the review, however, were the reasons my Dom, Jim, did the things the reviewer disliked so much.  He did them, not for a vicarious thrill, or because he has a scatological fixation, but because he wanted his sub, Kelly, to accept that nothing she did, or they did together, would disgust him, so she had no reason to be embarrassed in front of him--no matter what.

Despite his reasons, some readers are going to be put off by an activity they view as too personal, private or even sordid to share.  Bathroom functions are not romantic, as Kelly acerbically points out.  She's right, they're not, and Jim agrees with her.  But that's not the point he's trying to make.  The need for privacy is taught to us at a very young age, and when that privacy is encroached upon, we get embarrassed or angry.  We feel violated.  However, there is no room for embarrassment or artificial barriers between a Dom and his sub.  Jim knows this, just as he knows by remaining with Kelly when she seeks privacy, he is forcing her to face, and ultimately traverse, a barrier she will balk at crossing.  Does that mean he will never allow her any privacy?  No.  He does--eventually, but by then he believes Kelly has finally accepted that he alone determines what is acceptable between them and what is not.  She doesn't get a vote.

Are there other ways Jim could have taught this lesson?  Sure, limitless ones.  So, why did I have Jim use that particular method for proving his point?  Because for me, having a man I found sexually attractive insist on remaining with me during what I consider a very private time, would mortify me.  That would be scaling a private bastion I would do almost anything to keep him from climbing and for the very reasons Kelly gave.  It is gross, not romantic.  In fact, it is the antithesis of romantic.  Few other activities could embarrass me as much as that would.  So, even though I would hate it, Jim's lesson would work with me.

Despite those two scenes, I believe I have loads of romance, love and discipline in the novel, but my disappointed reviewer is also right about the lack of sex scenes.  Due to plot and length constraints, the story doesn't allow Jim and Kelly much time for sexual hi-jinks and that shows in the book.

I would have written the reviewer and thanked her for giving her honest opinion, if I'd known how to contact her.  So, instead I'm telling anyone who reads this article why I wrote what I did, so they can decide for themselves if they're willing to follow a character into places they may not want to go, either.  I know what I write is not to everyone's taste, and I do encourage readers to e-mail me.  We all have private bastions we don't want scaled, and now you are privy to one of mine.

                "How embarrassing," she whispered looking as if she might cry.

In this scene, a continuation from my Six Sentence Sunday of October 21, Kyle is slowly making love to Tiffany, except she wants him to go harder, faster and deeper.  But Kyle, still worried about Tiffany's fragile state of health, insists upon doing things his way.  Finally, in desperation, Tiffany grabs his butt to press him even deeper into her, but rather than give in, Kyle lets her know who rules the roost.  Of course, Tiffany is not one to give up easily.

                 "No, and that's final.  Push me again, and you'll find yourself on a paddle wheeler for a very bumpy ride."

                "Argh!"

                "Relax," he ordered, and was working up to a rhythm when she gripped his hips and began thrusting against him.  He immediately pulled out.  "That's it, my darling.  You were warned," he said, pulling her up out of the bed and over to the rocker where he lowered her protesting body gently over his knees.

Wow!  Same story with a brand new look.  Deadly Enchantment is getting a makeover.  No word yet on the new release date for the novel, but shape-shifting looks a lot more dangerous and erotic with this cover, don't you think?  Here, my hero, Dominic, looks like he might have designs on his lady's neck.  Maybe he has a little vampire in him that I didn't realize.  Who knew?  I'm not sure who the artist is, but it looks like Eliza Black's work.  As soon as I get more information, I'll post it.

In this segment, a continuation of my September 16 Six Sentence Sunday, Claire Daniels is torn between her fear and her desire for Germaine after she's witnessed the start of what appeared to be his group torturing another woman.  When she demands to know exactly what his followers were doing to the mortal female, Germaine refuses to say.  With the sober knowledge that some things can't be explained, they have to be shown, he continues a slow, methodical seduction intended to bring Claire to a painful point of arousal.  When her pleading for release grows frantic, he holds her in place and calmly explains how her current discomfort is mild compared to the punishment she witnessed.

                Tears of defeat spilled from her eyes.  “I didn't believe you could be so cruel.”

                His hands slid from her waist to her thighs.  “That's the point, Claire.  I never could be with you.”  Then lowering his mouth, he coaxed her into climax after climax until she was weak, sated and replete.  However, it wasn't until he raised his head that Claire realized he hadn't taken his own pleasure from her.

Howloween is a Hopping!

For this blog hop, I'm offering up my vampire hero, Germaine, from Mortal Illusions.  Germaine St. Justine survived the French Revolution, but not as a mortal.  Despite his unwillingness to become a creature of the night, he's adapted to today's society.  So, other than being restricted to a liquid diet, having a particular aversion to strong light (the sun especially) and a couple of especially sharp teeth, he could pass as just another good-looking, if not rather pale, fellow.

However, if vampires are "not your thing," I don't want you to feel left out.  For all you non-vampire lovers I'm also offering Dominic from Deadly Enchantment.  Dominic's teeth only grow sharp when he turns furry.  But he's also a wizard, so even in the Victorian society he's so much a part of, he's able to mix in despite some unsavory rumors about the grisly death of his first wife.

In this segment, a continuation of my September 16 Six Sentence Sunday, Claire Daniels is torn between her fear and her desire for Germaine after she's witnessed the start of what appeared to be his group torturing another woman.  When she demands to know exactly what his followers were doing to the mortal female, Germaine refuses to say.  With the sober knowledge that some things can't be explained, they have to be shown, he begins a slow, methodical seduction intended to bring Claire to a painful point of arousal.  When her pleading for release grows frantic, he holds her in place and calmly explains how her current discomfort is mild compared to the punishment she witnessed.

                Tears of defeat spilled from her eyes.  “I didn't believe you could be so cruel.”

In this scene, a continuation from my Six Sentence Sunday of September 23, Kyle is slowly making love to Tiffany, except she wants him to go harder, faster and deeper.  But Kyle, still worried about Tiffany's fragile state of health, insists upon doing things his way.  Finally, in desperation, Tiffany grabs his butt to press him even deeper into her, but rather than give in, Kyle lets her know who rules the roost.  Of course, Tiffany protests.

                "Please, Kyle," she groaned.

                "We'll get there eventually, Tiff, just enjoy the ride in the meantime."

                "But you're taking too long.  I want to go on a jet plane, and you're insisting we ride the slow boat to China.  Please…?  I won't break, honest."

                "No, and that's final.  Push me again, and you'll find yourself on a paddle wheeler for a very bumpy ride."

Alpha Males Don't Go Hopping from Bed to Bed

Nor do they participate in Blog Hops.  I think they find such activities demeaning.  They will, however, gladly go home and get in bed with a woman who desires to have them there, if they are not already in a committed relationship.  So, they can be had.  I love alpha males because of their protective instincts.  I want to feel loved and protected by a man.

All of my heroes are alpha, autocratic and extremely protective of their females.  They are also monogamous,  which means once committed, they do not stray.  They can be a bit overbearing, and occasionally their female needs to bring them down a peg, but they do not stint on their affection.  They love wholly and completely.
