My current post for 6SS, is from my 1st book, Mortal Illusions. A vampire romance published by New Concepts Publishing, Mortal Illusions is currently the first in a projected series of 3 books.  Its sequel, Fatal Desire, is currently under production.

This snippet occurs the morning after Claire Daniels and Germaine St. Justine's third night together.  Germaine has just finished coaxing Claire through a healthy workout session, which he convinced her to do in the nude.  Claire is eating breakfast as Germaine watches her.  Then his strong, tapered fingers move upwards to trail along her inner thigh.

                 Claire stopped eating and closed her eyes.  The mere touch of his hand started a warm flow of desire through her as her body prepared to welcome him in the age-old way of women and men.  She instinctively parted her legs in a silent invitation that his fingers did not hesitate to accept.
                Knowing that he was watching her take pleasure from his touch made Claire's response all that more intense.  Her breakfast momentarily forgotten, she gripped the counter, pressed back in her chair and responded to the man who had taught her just how rapturous physical love could be.  She arched her back with a cry of un-suppressed delight, while her inner muscles contracted in ecstatic release.

Howloween is a Hopping!

Welcome to the Howloween Blog Hop!

For this blog hop, I'm offering up my vampire hero, Germaine, from Mortal Illusions.  Germaine St. Justine survived the French Revolution, but not as a mortal.  Despite his unwillingness to become a creature of the night, he's adapted to today's society.  So, other than being restricted to a liquid diet, having a particular aversion to strong light (the sun especially) and a couple of especially sharp teeth, he could pass as just another good-looking, if not rather pale, fellow.

However, if vampires are "not your thing," I don't want you to feel left out.  For all you non-vampire lovers I'm also offering Dominic from Deadly Enchantment.  Dominic's teeth only grow sharp when he turns furry.  But he's also a wizard, so even in the Victorian society he's so much a part of, he's able to mix in despite some unsavory rumors about the grisly death of his first wife.

My current post for 6SS, is from my 2nd book, Deadly Enchantment. A shape-shifting wizard romance published by New Concepts Publishing, Deadly Enchantment concerns a young psychic woman facing off with the dark wizard of Ravenscroft, who she is convinced has brutally slaughtered her sister in a fit of jealousy on their wedding night.

In this segment, Serena Cunningham and Dominic Westcroft have taken shelter in a vacant cottage from a magical and malevolent storm cast by Dominic's brother, Terrence.  When they are able to deflect the charged lightening with a kiss, they realize by coming together their magic is far stronger and more resilient than Terrence's web of evil ever could be.  So, Dominic prepares to make love to Serena, fully understanding his claiming her virginity will result in consequences that will change both their lives forever.

            …Serena was beginning to doubt they would ever fit together when something inside her stretched and popped.  It hurt for a second, but the slight pain was dwarfed by a swelling wave of desire.  Her skin tingled as tiny sparks of rapture enveloped her as she and Dominic rose partially from the bed, then he turned in mid air so he was on top of her.  With each velvet thrust, he stroked a throbbing point pulsing within her until she imagined fireworks going off around them and deep inside her.
            Lighter than air, she floated on a cloud of bliss while every nerve in her body flickered with awakening sensation.

            Serena felt herself stretching in an effort to accommodate him.  It wasn’t painful exactly, but it did dull the glow of her desire.  He must have sensed her growing discomfort, for he raised her up, just to the tip of him, then let her weight pull her down again.  The friction of that small movement brought a gasp to her lips.  She’d get so far when it began to hurt, then he’d lift her up again.

            Then it happened.  She was beginning to think they would never fit together, when something inside her stretched and popped.

In this blog loop, we hope to provide you with tiny little tidbits of the most sexy and sensuous moments in our books. Just 3 sentences. This post for HHD is from my 2nd book, Deadly Enchantment. A shape-shifting wizard romance published by New Concepts Publishing, Deadly Enchantment concerns a young psychic woman facing off with the dark wizard of Ravenscroft, who she is convinced has brutally slaughtered her sister in a fit of jealousy on their wedding night.

In this week's segment, Serena Cunningham is being tortured by magically induced erotic dreams where her dream lover arouses her until she begs him for more, then leaves her aching and unsatisfied.  The problem is, she isn't sure who's doing this to her.  And her very handsome host, Dominic Westcroft, has shown himself to be a man who will do anything to get exactly what he wants.  By this point she is exhausted, throbbing with need, and totally unaware she'd been crying out in her sleep when she is awakened by a thunderous pounding at her door.

                “Are you all right?” he inquired from the hallway, his voice harsh and tense.

                When she merely nodded, he added, “You were sobbing.  Is something wrong?”

                A part of her wanted to ask if he was tormenting her in her sleep, but aside from not wanting to give him any satisfaction if he was responsible, she suspected if he wasn’t the one tormenting her, and she were to admit what was happening that he would insist upon tending to her himself, which was something she couldn’t allow to happen again.

This post for HHD is from my 1st book, Mortal Illusions. In this segment, Claire Daniels has finally convinced the two hundred year-old vampire, she hopes will ultimately save her brother's life, into making love to her only to realize that the enemies he's made over the years wouldn't hesitate to use her to get to him.  And he's just admitted that it isn't her death as much as the manner in which it would be executed that terrifies him.

Claire knew from her intimacy with Germaine just how intense the vampire mating ritual could be.  To have someone take her that way, against her will, would be equivalent to rape.  An image of being forcibly stripped and held down while a stranger sank his teeth into her most sensitive and vulnerable spot, made Claire cringe.

Is Sexier Always Better or Why Write Erotica?

So, if an author thinks erotica, but writes sweet, she'll probably find herself editing.  A lot.Is it really true, the sexier the better?  Stephen King was once asked why he writes such horrifying stories, and he responded, "Why do you assume I have a choice?"  I'm not certain that applies to all erotic romance writers, but I do know that an author's mind takes her down certain paths whether she truly wishes to travel them or not.  There's not really much of a choice.  She can force herself into taking a different path, and may even be successful at her redirection, but her mind will continually try to pull her back to the original path it wants to take whenever it can.

I love Disney.  I'd love to be able to write about furry bunnies, feisty princesses and noble princes who only have one kiss at the end of the book.  Unfortunately, my mind simply isn't wired that way.  I could force it to write sweet Disney-like stories for adults and children, but I know a story like that would leave my muse vastly unsatisfied.  I know because I've tried.  They aren't stories I've ever attempted to publish, nor are they of publishable quality.  Because no matter how much editing I tried to do, my mind and muse just weren't happy with the results.

Personally, I tend to write spicy over erotic.  I'm not really comfortable using certain four-letter words in sex scenes, no matter how realistic they may be.  Some four-letter words I don't even like reading, much less writing, but I'm not a priss.  I take readers right into the bedroom and let them experience first hand what my characters are doing.  I just leave out certain four-letter nouns in dialogue and description.  

And it is the nouns more than the verbs that bother me, although I even avoided the f-word until just recently.  And when I do use it, the word is meant as an insult rather than an activity.  For me, making love is just that, though I will let my characters occasionally refer to their more private activities as having sex, even though intimacy without emotion is not possible for them.  There is always great affection and caring between my hero and heroine when they are with each other. Even if the scene starts out with them angry and fighting, when they make love, they end up entwined in each other's arms.  Because I'm wired that way too.  I'm a hopeless romantic.  The happily ever after ending is a must for me, or the story is not complete.

That said, if someone asked me why I write such sexy stories, like Mr. King, I'd have to answer, "Why do you assume I have a choice?"

One of my favorite Disney Cartoons is Beauty and the Beast, and I love the musical even more.  I was surprised to learn that the cartoon was actually 50 years in the making.
