It's Sneak Peek Sunday!  Yay!  And I'm sharing an excerpt from my new spanking novella in the Corbin's Bend series, Past Interference, the sequel to A Simple Misunderstanding. Past Interference is part of the Corbin's Bend Valentine's Day collection "Love in the Rockies," and is not being sold separately.

What she needed was the opposite of what she wanted.

In this scene, which occurs near the beginning of Chapter Three, Eleanor Benson (Elly) is six days away from getting married again, and her doubts are eating her alive.  After suffering through a bout of stress-related migraines, she's finally gotten up enough courage to tell her husband-to-be that she's not sure she wants to get married.  Jerry knows Elly is nervous, but believed he'd managed to convince her he is nothing at all like her first husband, Arthur, who abused her.  Unfortunately, when he realizes Elly  still thinks he will turn into an abusive monster once they're married, despite all his gentle reassurances, his hurt pride causes him to snap at her in anger before he returns to his vet clinic next door. Elly realizes she's made a serious mistake, but has no idea how to fix things between them, so she decides to go for a walk, hoping the crisp, winter air will help clear her head. As she tromps through the Colorado snow, her tiny toy poodle suddenly goes on guard, so Elly starts to take precautions.

Jerry, cautious and prudent as always, insisted Elly program the clinic’s number into the first spot on her speed dial. During working hours someone would always be available to answer, and could get him for her in a crisis, even if he was with a client. Elly entered Jerry’s cell number as well, but knew from experience not to try it since he turned his phone off whenever he went into an examining room, and he didn’t carry it into surgery. So, Jerry’s cell occupied her phone’s number two slot, and Brent’s work number filled the third. The rest were Elly’s personal choice. Though 9-1-1 was coded into number nine, if she pressed and held any key for over thirty seconds, her phone would place an emergency call. Not sure if her situation constituted an emergency or not, her first thought was to contact Jerry, then she couldn’t think over her pounding heart when a familiar voice purred, “Hello, Eleanor.”

* * * * *

“Corbin’s Bend Pets - Where veterinary medicine is not just a job, it’s our life,” Sally answered. No one replied. “Hello?”

A few seconds later, a woman’s voice said, “Arthur. What are you doing skulking about these woods?”

Sally thought the voice sounded muffled, as though the woman wasn’t holding the phone close to her mouth. “Elly? Is that you?” she asked in a whisper.

The woman continued speaking in a calm, controlled manner. “Aren’t you still on parole? If Brent or Jerry catch you, they’ll make sure you’re thrown in jail again.”

“Dr. Douglas!” Sally called, covering the phone's mouth piece with her hand. “I think you need to hear this.”

 

Elly, realizing she may have made a huge mistake with Jerry, takes a walk to clear her head and her thoughts when her poodle reacts as though danger lurks nearby.  Unsure, Elly reaches for her phone an instinctively presses 1 for Jerry.

#SPeekSunday - 8/2/15 - A Dom's Dilemma - Dealing with pain from the past #BDSM #Spanking

He demanded her obedience, but what she wanted was his love.

It's Sneak Peek Sunday again and that means I get to share another 6 paragraphs from one of my books.  Yay!

My submission for this week is from my 4th book, A Dom's Dilemma, a BDSM/spanking novel that is sometimes playful, sometimes serious and sometimes terrifying, published by Blushing Books.  Kelly and Jim, the two main characters, were secondary characters in Arrested by Love.  Though this story stands on its own, if you read Arrested by Love, you'll most likely recognize some of the scenes, since we see a little bit of Kyle and Tiffany in this book, too.

In this excerpt, near the end of Chapter Five, Jim Evans and Kelly Franklin are together at "The Velvet Chains," a BDSM club where they met that evening.  Kelly is receiving some aftercare after a session of intensive medical play she did with Jim that seemed a lot more real than play.  Aftercare is an important part of the BDSM experience.  Both the Dom and the sub seek reassurance from the other.  Jim enjoys holding Kelly, and she likes being in his arms, so this is a quiet period of reflection and getting to know each other. Problem is, when Jim asks Kelly a question she really doesn't want to answer, her evasion serves as an admission she's lied to him.

Normally, a Dom would punish a sub for that infraction, but Jim has told Kelly he'll give her a onetime pass. Before they do anything else, however, he suggests they get to know each other a little better.  He begins by asking her some pertinent questions, which eventually lead to the topic of trust.  When Kelly admits that she probably trusts him more not to hurt her than anyone else, he's pleased, but remains cautious.  He informs her, in no uncertain terms, that he can be a controlling SOB who expects a lot, but he gives back in return.  If she chooses to remain as his sub, he'll expect her to be open and honest with about everything in her life. Even those things she might not want to share, but for the moment he's content to simply know more about what she likes. Curious about her new Dom as well, Kelly asks him whether he has any brothers or sisters. Seeing a shutter slam down over his features, she realizes she may have opened a wound from his past and struggles to get free of the blanket confining her.

            "Whoa there, girl.  Slow down and give me a chance.  No need to work yourself into a tizzy, just let me take care of it."

            Though Kelly immediately stopped fidgeting, she waited impatiently as he unwrapped the blanket from around her chest and shoulders to release her.  The moment she was free, Kelly swung both her arms about his neck and hugged him tightly.

            "What is it, darlin'?" he asked, wrapping his arms around her.

            "I'm sorry," she answered, giving him a kiss on his neck.

            He patted her back.  "There's no need for you to be--"  He cut off his own words and hugged her.  "Why thank you, Kelly girl, for tryin' to comfort me.  It's not necessary, but I'm grateful all the same."

            Gently drawing her arms down, he sat her again on his lap and wrapped the top half of her blanket loosely about her shoulders, leaving her breasts uncovered.  While caressing and gently squeezing her nipples, he said, "The plain fact is their deaths still bother me, so I don't like talkin' about 'em much."

Kelly knows she makes a lousy sub.  She has a temper and a mouth that constantly get her into trouble, but she sees something in Jim that makes her want more of the type of mastering only he could give her, except she's not sure she can give him all the honesty he expects in return.

My excerpt for this week is from my 2nd book, Deadly Enchantment.  A shapeshifting wizard romance set in Victorian England published by New Concepts Publishing, 

In this snippet, which occurs in the middle of the second chapter, Dominic Westcroft has returned from London to discover his sister has invited several young women to his home, so he can select a new bride.  What neither he nor his sister suspects, however, is that one of the women is actually his deceased bride's sister.  Tormented by guilt over his wife's tragic and brutal death, Dominic has no intention of ever marrying again.  However, when his show of temper accidentally reveals one of their guests possesses magical abilities she's trying to keep hidden, he invites the ladies join him for dinner, so he can rout her out.

Though Serena is routed out during dinner, she manages to keep her true identity a secret. After her close call with their host, however, she returns upstairs to speak with her cousin, while Dominic retreats to his study to send for his sister. As he waits, he recalls his former mentor's prophecy stating both Dominic and Terrence would need to mate with a woman pure of spirit and body prior to their thirtieth birthday.  Failure to do so would mean slipping into a steady decline that would result in them not only losing their powers, but their minds as well. Since marriage wasn't a requirement, Terrence fulfilled his end of the prophecy many years, while Dominic waited until his wedding night when his bride was brutally slaughtered before they could consummate their marriage.

             Even so, Dominic hadn’t been entirely convinced that Zaltasar’s dire prophecy wasn’t merely an attempt to get Terrence and him to settle down by a certain age.  However, during the past few years Dominic had begun to wonder if Zaltasar’s timeline wasn’t just a bit optimistic.  His black moods, as he called them, seemed to be increasing in both frequency and duration the older he got.

            Since he’d told Regina none of this, her actions were still unconscionable in his opinion, and he meant to ensure she fully understood the depth of his displeasure over the matter.

            When Regina finally answered his summons, she looked less confident than she had before, which appeased him somewhat, but not entirely.

            Sitting back in his chair, he templed his fingers beneath his chin.  “I believe there were a few points you neglected to mention about these transactions you’ve made.”  Lowering his hands he leaned forward in his chair.  “Such as the hundred pounds you offered to each woman who remains with me for a week.”

            “Well, you aren’t the easiest of men to be around at times, so I had to give them some incentive.  Besides, it’s only an additional fifty pounds to what you’ve already paid.”

            “That’s still a hundred pounds of my money!  Most of our villagers pay no more than seventy-five pounds a year in rent.  I hope you didn’t expect me to conjure up the funds through magic.  I doubt Her Majesty would appreciate enchanted currency floating about her realm.”

Though Dominic Westcroft suspects Serena has secrets she's not willing to share, he is determined to uncover the truth behind his young guest's deception, even if it means keeping the other women around as a ruse.

Peter loved Kate with all his being, but that didn't mean he'd tolerate an ultimatum from her.

My submission for this week is from my 5th book, Acting Lessons, loosely based on the story of Kiss Me Kate.

He was a strict and demanding college professor turned professional director who excelled at giving acting lessons.  She was his shy and uncertain former student who became a professional actress under his tutelage.  They fell in love, married, and won two Tony Awards before tragedy struck and a simple kiss ripped them apart.

After a six month separation, Peter Thorton decides to take matters into his own hands by making his famous wife, Kate, an offer she wouldn't refuse.  Plainly put, he wants her back and he intends to do whatever is necessary to achieve his goal, even if it means giving his stubborn, willful leading lady a daily reminder over his knee that she promised to obey him.

In this scene, which occurs early in the first chapter, Peter Thorton, seated comfortably in an agent's office, is attempting to convince his wife, Kate, to give their marriage a second chance by signing her to appear with him in a College Summer Stock production of "Kiss Me Kate."  Kate isn't sure she can trust Peter with her heart again, since she believes he's been unfaithful to her, but she's never stopped loving him.  And though Domestic Discipline originally played a part in their marriage, their last two years together had them living like polite strangers sharing the same house.

Peter realizes he made a mistake in letting Kate do as she pleased, so he's determined to rectify matters immediately by informing his famous wife that if she keeps acting like a brat, he will turn her over his knee. Since Kate doesn't believe him, she dares him to try it.  He doesn't hesitate, And before she gets another word out, Kate finds herself stomach down across her husband's knees.  Furious and humiliated by both her position and Peter's warning swat, she demands her agent call the police while Peter suggests the agent give them some time alone.  Furious, Kate makes the mistake of challenging her husband, and he lets her know right away what he will and will not tolerate by proving to her his threats are no longer idle.  The spanking provides an emotional release for Kate, and she ends up crying in Peter's arms. Once she gets herself under control, Kate attempts to apologize, but Peter cuts her off with a kiss then informs her he wants them to have dinner together. Kate informs him she has a previous engagement she is not willing to cancel, so he suggests they meet afterward .

             "Fine," she answered with a trace of petulance.

            He gave her chin a light tap.  "Attitude."

            Kate drew back from the reprimand.  Well, he was right about one thing.  If they planned to work together again, things would need to change.  She refused to bend over in docile submission every time he flexed a little muscle.  Though at six foot three, the man had more than a little muscle.  "You can't just turn me over your knee whenever you think I'm being difficult, Peter.  I have a right to my own opinion, which may not be in concert with yours.  Besides, we tried the spanking routine before, remember?  It didn't work."

            "I recall differently.  As a matter of fact, I believe our discussions had a marvelous way of improving your attitude."

            "My attitude?  It wasn't my attitude that needed improving."

            "Are you really going to challenge me on this now, Katie girl?"

Kate pushed, so Peter pulled.  Temporarily reconciled, Kate has to decide whether to give into his wishes or stand firm so he doesn't think she's lost her backbone.

             “Perhaps,” Allison conceded after a long moment of hesitation.  “Even so, I don’t think I want to stay here any longer.”

            Allison shook her head.  Like Serena, she knew full well what her mercenary parent would say, and it wouldn’t be complimentary.  “I’m tired,” Allison admitted.  “Perhaps I should go to sleep and see how I feel tomorrow.”

            “A wise decision,” Serena concurred as she gave her cousin a kiss, then turned and headed to her own room.  Allison would remember the night as a fuzzy dream, and she alone would know the truth of what happened.  Serena didn’t sense any evil in Westcroft, but he wasn’t exactly house-trained either.  There was a chance that the white leopard that mauled her sister in her dreams could be just that--a figment of a terrified little girl’s nightmare.  He wasn’t at all what she expected him to be.  In truth, she didn’t know how she felt about the man now that she’d met him again.  And that unsettled her even more.

            After his meeting with Serena, Dominic strode directly to his library and sent for his sister.  Regina had much to answer for, and he intended to see that she did, though what he’d told her about his thirtieth birthday had not been entirely correct.  When he was sixteen years old, Zaltasar had warned him that to complete his powers he would need to mate with a woman pure of spirit and body prior to his thirtieth birthday.  If he failed to do that, he would slip into a steady decline that would result in him not only losing his powers, but cause him to lose his mind as well.  In short, he would slowly go insane until he would eventually need to be locked up for his own welfare and that of others.

            The same would have held true for Terrence, but Terrence had fulfilled this particular obligation many years ago.  Marriage was not a requirement, just the deflowering of an innocent virgin was.  Dominic had had the opportunity, but he had never felt the inclination until he met Felicity.  He had only been seventeen years old then, and though the thought of making love to Felicity before he’d married her had appealed to his randy libido, he felt it would be disrespectful to her.

Though Dominic Westcroft suspects Serena has secrets she's not willing to share, he is determined to uncover the truth behind his young guest's deception, even if it means keeping the other women around as a ruse.

#SPeekSunday - 7/5/15 - A Simple Misunderstanding - Courting Trouble - #CorbinsBend #DD

He came to her rescue when she needed him most, almost to lose her when she disobeyed him.

Welcome to the Sneak Peek Sunday, where we share six paragraphs from a published novel or a work in progress.  My stories are all M/f with the dominant male determined to protect the woman he cares for and loves, or grows to love, by doing whatever it takes to ensure her safety and continued health.

This week's excerpt is a sneak peek from my fourth spanking romance, A Simple Misunderstanding, which is the seventh book in the Corbin's Bend series.  I hope you enjoy it.

In this scene, which occurs near the beginning, Eleanor Benson (Elly) has some exciting news she wants to share with Gerald Douglas (Jerry).  She's seen Jerry in the dog park on an almost daily basis since she and her husband moved into Corbin's Bend, but only started opening up to him a few days ago.  As the Corbin's Bend vet, Jerry has expressed an interest in Elly's dog, Muffin.  His calm, steady manner soothes Elly's wounded spirit, and the fact his observant eyes seem to notice more about her than she'd like both attracts and frightens her.  All the same, he's the first person she thinks of when she has news to share.  So, she heads over to the dog park with her toy poodle, Muffin, in the hope he'll meet her there.  He does.  Excited, she tells him she had three women visit her that morning.  Wanting to hear more, Jerry starts asking questions.

She glanced at her wristwatch. “I can’t add much until I meet with the ladies, and I suppose I’d better get back anyway. I wasn’t sure how long I’d be gone, so I didn’t tell Arthur I was leaving the house, and it’s one of our rules.”

His expression grew serious. “Are you going to get in trouble for coming here?”

She smiled and tilted her head. “Not if I don’t get caught.”

Except rather than return her conspiratorial smile, Jerry grabbed her arm and gave her butt a swat she barely registered through the downy layers of her coat; though his unexpected displeasure with her came through loud and clear.

“Oww! Jerry, no!” Elly protested, but he’d already turned her to face him. His thunderous expression had her heart pounding erratically.

“You still hurt from what he did to you yesterday, so risking further punishment this afternoon was foolhardy, irresponsible, and worth more than that paltry swat I gave you.”

 

Jerry already suspects Elly's husband is harsher with her than he should be and wants to help her, but he is unable to intervene until Elly can admit she and Arthur are having problems. However, the notion that she's actually courting trouble doesn't sit well with him at all.

Problem is Elly Benson is a married and consenting adult who insists all her bruises and welts are nothing more than a simple misunderstanding between her and her husband, until the day Arthur Benson takes his authority and discipline one-step too far, endangering Elly's life.

#SPeekSunday - 6/28/15 - Arrested by Love - Who is the other guy? #DD #Spanking

He caught her speeding in a school zone and decided she needed to learn even civil disobedience could have very painful consequences.

Welcome to Sneak Peek Sunday.  For this hop we get to share six paragraphs from a published work or a WIP (work in progress).

My submission for this week is from my 3rd book, Arrested by Love.  A handsome, but strict, police officer  decides a spoiled socialite needs a special lesson in obeying the law.

Tiffany Morgan has been in love with Kyle Sinclair since she was ten years old, when he'd turned her over his knee for attempting to swim in a raging white water river. Though she'd been furious with him at the time, Tiffany never told her family what Kyle did. Instead, she began trailing after him like an annoying younger sister as she tried to gain his attention.

Now, eleven years later, Kyle, a patrol officer, is finding it much more difficult to maintain his distance from the irresistible and vivacious redhead who continues to invent ingenious ways to attract his interest. Though he dismissed her initial attraction to him as infatuation, as she grew-up, his own feelings of desire and protectiveness deepened. So, despite his constant struggle to resist the spirited little minx's lures, Kyle finally has to admit that he is losing the battle--badly.

After Kyle makes it clear to Tiffany that speeding will earn her much more than a ticket from him, he gives into the inevitable and asks her out on a date.  He loves her, but isn't sure he's the right guy for her.  However, he no longer fights the attraction between them as he dates her exclusively, but Tiffany wants more, so she makes her stand, and Kyle makes it clear how her life will change if they get married.  And he persists by asking if she even thought she could live on a budget.  When she informs him she is not fiscally irresponsible, he tells her that if she can live for one month on the budget he sets for her, and show how she'd been able to save the rest of her salary, without going to her daddy for help, he will ask her to marry him.  But after two weeks in a row of going over, Tiffany seeks out her father in a tearful panic. He agrees to bail her out, but warns her that men can forgive a lot, but lying is something they find difficult to excuse. So, by lying to Kyle, Tiffany finds herself swiftly spiraling downward into a morass of guilt that has her sobbing when he proposes. Confused, Kyle tries to get to the root of the problem as he comforts her. When he suspects she's trying to tell him she's fallen for another guy, he asks her when it happened.

            She winced.  "Four weeks ago, when we first started our test.  I'm so sorry, Kyle."

            With a nod, he lifted her off his lap, but looked at her when she clutched desperately at his arm.  "Please.  Don't hate me."

            He ran a calming hand through her hair.  "I could never hate you, Tiffany."

            When she continued to cling to his arm and sob, he finally pulled free to wrap it back around her.  "Can you at least tell me who he is?"

            She straightened at that question and gave him a puzzled look.  "Who who is?" she asked, using the facial tissue he'd handed her so she could dry her eyes and blow her nose.

            "The guy you want to be with now instead of me."

Tiffany loves Kyle, and wants to prove to him she can will make a good wife, except she's never tried to keep to a budget before, and she quickly discovers it's much harder than she originally thought.  She knows going to her father is against the rules, but she can't face Kyle's disappointment for the second week in a row, so she breaks the rule, convincing herself she'll make it up in another way. However, when she falls short yet again, she begins to feel like a total failure, and actually bursts into tears when Kyle proposes. Kyle, of course, begins to suspect the worst.

It's Sneak Peek Sunday!  Yay!  And I'm sharing an excerpt from my new spanking novella in the Corbin's Bend series, Past Interference, the sequel to A Simple Misunderstanding. What she needed was the opposite of what she wanted.

In this scene, which occurs near the beginning of Chapter Three, Eleanor Benson (Elly) is six days away from getting married again, and her doubts are eating her alive.  After suffering through a bout of stress-related migraines, she's finally gotten up enough courage to tell her husband-to-be that she's not sure she wants to get married.  Jerry knows Elly is nervous, but believed he'd managed to convince her he is nothing at all like her first husband, Arthur, who abused her.  Unfortunately, when he realizes Elly  still thinks he will turn into an abusive monster once they're married, despite all his gentle reassurances, his hurt pride causes him to snap at her in anger before he returns to his vet clinic next door. Elly realizes she's made a serious mistake, but has no idea how to fix things between them, so she decides to go for a walk, hoping the crisp, winter air will help clear her head. As she tromps through the Colorado snow, her tiny toy poodle suddenly goes on guard.

When they returned to the house, Jerry took Elly by the hand and led her up to his loft bedroom. She couldn’t seem to stop trembling, so he slowly undressed her, taking care to kiss every patch of skin he uncovered until Elly trembled for an entirely different reason. He treated her with a gentle reverence until she pressed her body to his and demanded he take her instead.

Passion flared between them as Jerry gave Elly everything she desired and more. She ached to feel his possession, so with few preliminaries he staked his claim and rode her until they were both exhausted and replete. Their lovemaking had been more animalistic than romantic that afternoon, partly because she’d been threatened and like a true alpha male, Jerry wanted to leave his mark of possession, and partly because she needed him to reassure her his love hadn’t been tarnished by her husband’s dark nature.

Now, however, her divorce was final and Arthur had reportedly moved back east. After trying a few times to contact her, he did manage to express regret for causing her miscarriage through their lawyers, but even if he crawled over a field of broken glass, Arthur Benson would never be welcomed back into Corbin’s Bend, so there was little reason for him to remain in Colorado.

Needing to clear her brain, Elly chose to wander off the well-traveled path and traipse through the woods. Perhaps the bracing air and winter’s natural beauty would remove enough of the cobwebs so she could think. Maybe she could freeze her headache away.

A cluster of pine trees reminded her of Christmas and Jerry’s proposal, so she stopped to enjoy the tangy scent as she gave the dogs enough lead to allow them to do some sniffing. Not wanting to lose either of them, she didn’t remove their leads, but let them play out to the end of their lines.

Muffin had just discovered a pine cone in need of a good pouncing, when she jerked her head up with her ears twitching and let out a soft, but menacing growl. Elly recognized the sound to mean someone unfriendly was approaching and went on immediate alert. Without thought or hesitation, she reeled Muffin in close to her, then reached into her coat and pressed the one button on her cell phone. Putting her thumb over the earpiece, in an effort to muffle any sound from the person answering, she secured the device inside her pocket so the mouthpiece cleared its edge. Whoever picked up might be able to hear her without the approaching person’s knowledge.

 

Elly, realizing she may have made a huge mistake with Jerry, takes a walk to clear her head and her thoughts when her poodle reacts as though danger lurks nearby.
