#MFRWHooks - 3/9/16 - A Simple Misunderstanding - Jerry tells Arthur off #DD #SpankingRomance

It's Book Hooks Wednesday!  Yay!  And I'm sharing another excerpt from my new spanking romance in the Corbin's Bend series, A Simple Misunderstanding.  It's sequel, Past Interference is included both in the Love in the Rockies anthology and as a single title release.

He came to her rescue when she needed him most, almost to lose her when she disobeyed him.

In this scene, which occurs in Chapter Six, Jerry Douglas, who has spent the day with Elly Benson, has been asked to leave the hospital, so he returns to his veterinary clinic to check on his patients. Muffin, a tiny toy poodle, was injured when Elly's husband attacked her. Jerry's technicians have spent the day caring for the dog, and now Jerry is there to check her out to make sure she's healing the way she should be. Fond of the little beast, Jerry makes sure she has everything she needs and walks through to his attached home.

Jerry was just sitting down to dinner at his small kitchen table when the phone rang. Tempted to let the answering machine pick up, he hesitated, then tossed his napkin next to his fork and went over to grab the wireless receiver he kept in the kitchen. The Benson home number. Still debating if the action was wise, Jerry pressed the talk button.
“This is Dr. Douglas.”
“Douglas. Good. I’m glad I caught you. Did you get my earlier message?”
“I’m having dinner, Benson; it’s been a long day. How may I help you?”
“Ahh. Now I understand. You suspect I deliberately beat my wife, don’t you?”
“No. I don’t suspect it at all.”
Benson remained silent for a moment. “Did you say something to the hospital staff?”
“I’ve said many things to the staff, was there something in particular you wanted to know?”
“Did you tell them I abuse her?”
“Not directly. No.”
“Then why won’t they let me speak to her? Why are they refusing to let me see her?”
“Why did you leave your wife to bleed to death on Friday?”
“I didn’t realize she was hurt when I left.”
“No? So what? Did you think her writhing and groaning on the floor was merely a ruse to gain more of your loving attention?”
“Is that what she told you?” he inquired, his voice cool and brittle.
“She didn’t have to, Benson. Her injuries spoke for themselves.”
“You’re interfering, Douglas. I have a legal right to be with my wife, to talk to her.”
“And you have an inalienable right to go to hell, too. I don’t need to say which path I’d help you on.”
“I’ll sue you for defamation of character.”
“You’d have to prove I defamed you first, and I sincerely doubt you’d seek that sort of publicity. The news coverage alone would be very messy.”
“You don’t know me.”
“Ahh, I believe I know you better than you realize. I have to go, but would you like to know why I think you’re a Grade A bastard?”
“Since you are clearly salivating to tell me, please do.”
“Because you’re only concerned about your image. We’ve spoken for five minutes and not once did you ask me how your wife was doing. Good night.” Believing he handled himself admirably well, Jerry hung up.

All the animals in his clinic are important to Jerry, but Muffin is special since she belongs to Elly. His attitude toward her husband is an entirely different matter, however.

M/F Domestic Discipline in Colorado.

Blurb:

Though Arthur and Eleanor Benson have been practicing domestic discipline for three months since their wedding, he insists moving to Corbin's Bend, where domestic discipline is the norm rather than the exception, will revitalize their marriage. Elly has doubts, but since Arthur is the undisputed head of their household, they move. However, once Arthur becomes immersed in a community where spanking is not only permitted, but encouraged, his personality undergoes a dramatic change. Accusing his submissive wife of being lazy, disorganized and disobedient, he employs creative methods of pain and humiliation to mold Elly from the imperfect woman he married into the perfect woman he desires. And Elly finds herself a virtual prisoner in her own home, accountable only to the man who rules her life with a cane.

In his years as a vet, Jerry Douglas has seen what abuse does to animals, and he recognizes those same signs in Elly Benson during her daily escape to the dog park with her tiny poodle. Jerry steadfastly supports the tenets of domestic discipline and enjoys the freedom Corbin's Bend offers its residents, but he remains fiercely protective of anyone in need of a champion. And when he witnesses evidence of harsh handling, his instinct is to rush in and rescue. Problem is Elly Benson is a married and consenting adult who insists all her bruises and welts are nothing more than a simple misunderstanding between her and her husband, until the day Arthur Benson takes his authority and discipline one-step too far, endangering Elly's life.

#WIPitUp - 3/9/16 - Acting Lessons - Directing the spanking scene #KissMeKate #Spanking

WIP: Work in progress.  WIP it up Wednesday is a hop where writers share portions of the project they're working on with readers.  I really like the idea because it allows me to share something that's still in the creative stage as well as work behind the scenes as a prompt to keep me writing.

So, I want to continue sharing "Lessons in Love" with you, but today, I'm also going to share a snippet from my 5th spanking book, Acting Lessons, loosely based on the story of Kiss Me Kate. So, it's another two-fer from me.

He was a strict and demanding college professor turned professional director who excelled at giving acting lessons.  She was his shy and uncertain former student who became a professional actress under his tutelage.  They fell in love, married, and won two Tony Awards before tragedy struck and a simple kiss ripped them apart.

After a six month separation, Peter Thorton decides to take matters into his own hands by making his famous wife, Kate, an offer she wouldn't refuse.  Plainly put, he wants her back and he intends to do whatever is necessary to achieve his goal, even if it means giving his stubborn, willful leading lady a daily reminder over his knee that she promised to obey him.

In this scene, which occurs two-thirds into the book, Peter Thorton is directing his wife and some college students in a production of Kiss Me Kate and they've reached the famous spanking scene near the end of the musical. Though Peter spanks Kate in real life, she's done everything she can to get him to cut this scene, because spankings are intense, intimate and extremely personal for her and she doesn't want one to happen on-stage. Peter, however, assures her the stage spanking will be nothing like the real ones, and it is essential to the story, so it can't be cut. Kate reluctantly agrees to try, but she has severe misgivings about doing this scene, so Peter has the actors take their places.

"Okay, we need two chairs and a table across the inner courtyard from Baptista's front door, which according to the design will be stage left.  Baptista, rather than cross directly to Petruchio, I want you to cross upstage, stopping just above center.  Here," Peter said, marking the spot.  "Katharine, on your cue, I want you to enter from your home downstage of Baptista and cross to Petruchio.  Tom, would you stand in for me during this scene?"
"Sure, Mr. Thorton."  If anything Kate's eyes grew even wider, and Peter could sense her unease from across the room.
Ignoring Kate's stunned expression, Peter directed Tom to his mark. "Stand here, if you would."
            "Peter…."
"It's okay, darling.  We're only blocking right now."
            "But--"
"Katharine, take your place, please."  Kate hesitated for a moment, then did as he ordered.  He would need to be firm with her as he traversed the tightrope between directing and dictating."

Kate may be a professional, but there are some things that are just too personal to share with an audience.
M/F, DD and a staged production of Kiss Me, Kate.

Guest Post - 3/8/16 - My Sassy Settler by Maggie Ryan #Western #Historical

Today I've got Maggie Ryan and her second Williamette Wives book, "My Sassy Settler."

Excerpt:

"I'm not—"
"Be very careful, Annabelle. I suggest you remember what happens when you lie to me."
She felt her face begin to heat as she recalled exactly how this man punished her when she was caught telling a little fib, much less an outright lie. Rather than think about how she'd most likely be tumbled over his knees if she continued acting like a fool, she attempted to refocus his attention elsewhere.
"Oh, I think I hear Johnny. Poor thing, he must be scared to wake up all alone." Without waiting for her husband's permission, Anna pulled away for the second time.
"Stop." It was only one word, and yet it had the power to glue her feet to the barn floor.
"But the baby…"
"Is fine," Richard said, moving to her and turning her back to face him again. "Enough of this nonsense. You are obviously hiding something. I assure you that our son is far more comfortable than his mother is going to be unless you tell me what's going on."
Anna attempted to cover the gasp she heard from behind the hay by coughing. It came out as more of a strangled gasp but her husband's eyes flicked to the hay stack and then back to her.
"Are you okay?" he asked.
"I'm just cold and need to tend to your son." She relaxed as he reached to draw her cloak more tightly around her and then ran his hands up and down her arms.
"Have you seen Agatha this morning?"
"What?" Damn it, she had forgotten about Wyatt. "I told you, I haven't seen her!"
"Actually what you've done is waltz around the question," Richard corrected. "You haven't actually answered."
"I don't know how many times I have to say it, I have not seen her." She almost groaned when his eyes once more flicked to the hay and then to Wyatt.
Richard shook his head. "Feel free to search the barn, Wyatt. If you find her, it appears that hay bale provides a perfect spot to kneel; skirts up and drawers down. I assure you that the strap on that hook by the door is an excellent choice."

Blurb:

What should be a wonderful new adventure for newlyweds Wyatt and Agatha Wilcox is not turning out quite the way they'd hoped. Wyatt's dreams of building a new life with the girl he'd met and wed while traveling on the Oregon Trail are turning into a nightmare. He loves his wife dearly but has no idea how to reach her.

Agatha knows she isn't the wife that Wyatt dreamed of. Despite her deep love for this man, she just finds it impossible to cast aside all the words and damnation she'd been hearing from her stepfather for the past year. Her hope that she'd find a fresh start as Mrs. Wilcox, and her excitement at the idea of settling into their first home on a ranch they're going to help build, are overshadowed by the fact that her Ma is no longer with her, and the knowledge that she is not the pure and innocent woman Wyatt deserves. She knows she is a sinner; a woman too weak and too selfish to let the man she loves go free.

Dangers in this newly settled land aren't limited to the bears and wild cats that roam the forests and mountains of the Willamette Valley. The deep cold of winter is coming, and the ranch's inhabitants need to prepare. It is with the help of friends, their partners in building The Double R Ranch—affectionately known as The Rose Ranch to its founders—that things come to a head between Agatha and Wyatt, and their first steps toward a new life are taken. Will the couple find their way past the hatred spewed by a self- proclaimed preacher to find that, together, they have the strength and the love to build the lives they each had envisioned?

With patience and love, will Agatha learn to trust that this man would never let her down? What will Wyatt think when he discovers that, beneath her fear, he not only wed a wonderful woman, but he has wed his own Sassy Settler?

My Sassy Settler is the second book in the Willamette Wives series, and also continues the story of Anna and Richard, Charity and James, and other characters first introduced in Maggie Ryan's bestselling book: His Passionate Pioneer.

About the Author:

Author for Blushing Books.  I write both contemporary erotica and historical spanking romances.  I enjoy writing about characters that enjoy the provocative D/S lifestyle of today’s times as well as taking a step back into the past to write stories that take place in the Victorian era with age-play as a theme.
I live in the great Lone Star state with my wonderful husband.  I have always loved reading.  Growing up in a family with four children, it was difficult finding a place to be alone.  I was probably one of the squeakiest clean girls on the planet as I would spend hours in the tub so I could read without being bothered.  It wasn’t long before I began to make up my own endings to the books I was reading.  From there, it just seemed natural to begin writing my own stories.
I never try to restrict myself to any one genre because there are just too many delicious possibilities out there and inside my head.  I admit to being somewhat of a romantic though as my stories always must have a great deal of love, passion, corporal discipline and, of course, great, mind-blowing sex.  I want my readers to be able to see, hear, feel and know the characters that I’m creating as well as I do when I bring them to life and transfer their stories to paper.  I want my women to be strong of character but also strong enough to know that submission given in love and trust to your partner does not make you weaker, it makes you far stronger. I want my men to be sexy, strong, demanding alpha males who know how to take what they want while acknowledging it is a gift they have been blessed with by the women that have chosen to submit to them.  I want there to be no doubt that they truly would die for the other no matter how others might view their relationship.

#6BestHop - 3/6/16 - Past Interference - No excuses #CorbinsBend #DD

It's Sunday's Six of the Best!  Yay!  And I'm sharing an excerpt from my new spanking novella in the Corbin's Bend series, Past Interference, the sequel to A Simple Misunderstanding. Past Interference was originally part of the Corbin's Bend Valentine's Day collection "Love in the Rockies," but is now being sold separately.

What she needed was the opposite of what she wanted.

In this scene, which occurs near the beginning of Chapter Three, Eleanor Benson (Elly) is six days away from getting married again, and her doubts are eating her alive.  After suffering through a bout of stress-related migraines, she's finally gotten up enough courage to tell her husband-to-be that she's not sure she wants to get married.  Jerry knows Elly is nervous, but believed he'd managed to convince her he is nothing at all like her first husband, Arthur, who abused her.  Unfortunately, when he realizes Elly  still thinks he will turn into an abusive monster once they're married, despite all his gentle reassurances, his hurt pride causes him to snap at her in anger before he returns to his vet clinic next door. Elly realizes she's made a serious mistake, but has no idea how to fix things between them, so she decides to go for a walk, hoping the crisp, winter air will help clear her head. As she tromps through the Colorado snow, her tiny toy poodle suddenly goes on guard. Uncertain if her situation constituted an emergency, Elly reaches for her phone and instinctively presses 1 for Jerry's office and puts the phone back in her pocket so the mouthpiece is exposed. Jerry and his receptionist are listening as Elly confronts her ex-husband, who isn't pleased she's planning to marry again, but tells her he wants to explain.

Refusing to take the bait, she retorted, “Explain what? Why you almost kicked me to death?”
“In essence, yes.” He let the vine drop, so the loops hung from the tree like a large wood spring and ventured another step closer until it took all of Elly’s willpower not to retreat in fear. “I totally lost control,” he confessed, his hands stretched out in a gesture of appeal, “which resulted in an unfortunate — consequence.”
Elly wanted to slap him for that understatement. His kicks to her abdomen caused her to miscarry. The fact that neither of them realized she was pregnant at the time was irrelevant to her way of thinking.
“Consequence?” she repeated, her lips tight and her chin held high.
“Yes. It cost me you, but you never allowed me to explain how my kicks were aimed at your mangy rat of a dog. I never meant for you to be harmed in that way.”
Squaring her shoulders, Elly stared at the man she once called husband. “Your actions cost me way more than they ever cost you, Arthur. I’m not interested in your explanations, and you have no excuses to give.”

Elly knows the worst thing she could do would be to show fear, so she masks her unease with cool bravado.

Valentine's Day in Corbin's Bend.  As Elly Benson readies herself for her second wedding, the doubts and misgivings of any new bride-to-be are exacerbated by the abuse she suffered during her first marriage.

Though she's lived with Jerry Douglas for four months now, and been subject to his discipline more than once, Elly's first husband had been kind and careful with her, too, until the day she vowed to love, honor and obey him.  The lessons she's learned from the past make her doubt she can ever find happiness in the future.

#SatSpanks - 3/5/16 - Lessons in Love - Last Warning - #DomesticDiscipline #OfficeRomance

She needed a job, he needed a personal assistant. It seemed like a match made in heaven until he laid out the rules he expected her to follow.

Reading this material at Work could get you spanked.

Welcome to the Saturday Spankings blog hop.  My stories are all M/f with the dominant male determined to protect the woman he cares for and loves, or grows to love, by doing whatever it takes to ensure her safety and continued health.  This includes administering a spanking when she needs one.

My submission for this week is a selection from my sixth spanking book, Lessons in Love.

"Lessons in Love" centers around a wealthy business owner who believes in helping his executive admins using politically incorrect, H.R.unapproved, and therefore clandestine, Domestic Discipline techniques.  Since DD isn't for everyone, he does tend to go through admins rather frequently.  However, he also makes sure if they choose not to work for him because of his unorthodox management style, that they are given another suitable position in his company if they wish to stay, or a handsome severance package if they choose to leave.

This excerpt takes place during their discussion meeting when Pam let's slip that Krista gave her information on Peterson's previous assistant.  His lips set in a firm line, Mr. Peterson promptly calls Krista into his office, but Pam leaps to her friend's defense.

"This is your last warning, Miss Weston. Speak out again, and I will take action."
Pam opened and closed her mouth, then, turning, she walked around the table, flung open the door and found herself trapped in a pair of strong arms, drawn back inside, and the door quietly shut behind her.
Without further discussion, Peterson led her behind his desk, where he pulled a thin wooden fan-like paddle from his top drawer.
"No!" Krista cried. "You can't do that to her. Pam, did you agree to this?"
Tears filled Pam's eyes as she regarded the unsmiling man looming over her. She could sense the anger in him, but he did nothing to restrain her. He even released her arm when he sat down, but his eyes never left hers.

Pam Weston has worked in Robert Peterson's company for nearly six months as a temp when she is reassigned to the President's office.  She has caught glimpses of Mr. Peterson when she temped on the executive floor, but she never expected she'd be summoned to work for him.  Pam has a criminal record and a murky past, which has made her practically unemployable, and yet now H.R. has assigned her to work for the president of their company, and after her first day she suspects working for Mr. Peterson will be a very different experience.

Blurb:

Pam Weston didn't have many choices as far as employment went. Her prison sentence saw to that. With limited secretarial skills, and an even more limited budget, she never considered herself executive material. So, when she was ordered to report to the CEO of her company as his new personal assistant, she fully expected to be checking out the "Help Wanted" section of the paper before the day was over.

Robert Peterson knew his management style was not HR approved, but he believed in using the stick as well as the carrot. Employing the tenets of domestic discipline, he helped mold his personal assistants into confident women who recognized their own self-worth. Even so, his unorthodox methods were only one of the reasons many considered the position of his assistant to be a revolving door. To Rob's mind, Pamela Weston was perfect for his purposes, though given her past he expected convincing her would be a challenge.

Guest Post - 3/1/16 - Simon Says by Libby Campbell #DD #EroticRomance @LibbyC26

Today Libby Campbell has dropped by to discuss her new romance novel "Simon Says." But before we get to her book, I asked her a couple of questions she answered that I'd like to add here first.

You are in a Domestic Discipline relationship? How much of your book comes from real incidences?
I am and it gives me a fair bit of insight into how the dynamic works, both the physical and psychological aspects.

Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp? The best DD is based on mutual respect and, if not love, great affection.
What do you like to do when you’re not writing?
I like to hike and spend time at the beach – all year round. The ocean fascinates me.

Sadie will be the perfect woman for Simon, if only she can learn to obey his rules.

Excerpt:

Almost is an ambiguous stretch of time, depending on how a person spends it. Sitting on that hard wooden chair with a tender bottom made the seconds stretch to hours. I watched Simon’s face and admired his concentration as he typed. That attempt to divert my attention soon grew boring. The seat on the roller coaster grew more uncomfortable. Eventually all my thoughts were about the terrifying descents ahead. I wished we could just push off from the station and get the scary part over with.
He stopped typing and reread what he’d written. Satisfied at last, he closed the clamshell and tucked it into his bag. I was sure that the time passed only seemed like minutes to him. My butt ached sitting on that chair but I didn’t shift even a fraction of an inch, not while he was staring at me. He crouched in front of me.
“First of all, I want you to know that I care about you very much. In fact I’m falling in love with you.” He kissed the back of my hands. “This—this ritual of discipline—is proof of that love. If I didn’t care about you, about making you and me together a stronger unit, I wouldn’t bother.”
He rubbed my hands with his thumbs. “Secondly, you owe a huge debt to my sister.”
I opened my mouth to speak, to ask why. He placed a finger on my lips. “It’s not the time for the condemned woman to plead her case.”

Blurb:

When feisty Sadie Donohue meets Simon Jacobson at a New Year’s Eve party, she thinks it’s a chance encounter, but not all is as it seems. Simon is a busy executive who prefers to be the master of his own destiny.

Over dinner the next night his authoritative personality starts to emerge. Always one to question authority, Sadie rebuffs his gentle suggestions for more polite behavior with a lively, sharp wit. Simon is amused but unmoved.

If Sadie wants to continue seeing him she must accept his rules. Rules that will be reinforced by spankings when she fails to comply.

A strong, independent woman, Sadie struggles with his demands. A tragedy from Simon’s past makes him more determined than ever to make her obey. Their worlds collide.

This romantic comedy, set in cold climes of Canada, is warmed with frequent spankings.
