Six Sentence Sunday - December 30 - Deadly Enchantment

Can a wizard truly change his spots?

This material is Not Safe For Work. If you’re not over 18, please explore elsewhere.

Welcome to my 6SS where I hope to provide you with tiny little tidbits of the most sexy and sensuous moments in my books. Just 6 sentences, that I intend to build from my Horny Hump Day 3 sentence feature. The books might be already published, works-in-progress, or even sentences from other sexy books I think you’ll like.  Of course, I will properly attribute all works, even mine.

My current post for 6SS, is from my 2nd book, Deadly Enchantment. A shape-shifting wizard romance published by New Concepts Publishing, Deadly Enchantment concerns a young psychic woman facing off with the dark wizard of Ravenscroft, who she is convinced has brutally slaughtered her sister in a fit of jealousy on their wedding night.

In this segment, Serena Cunningham and Dominic Westcroft have taken shelter in a vacant cottage from a magical and malevolent storm cast by Dominic's brother, Terrence.  When they are able to deflect the charged lightning with a kiss, they realize by coming together their magic is far stronger and more resilient than Terrence's web of evil ever could be.  Accepting their best chance for success over Terrence requires them to join their powers, Dominic makes love to Serena, fully understanding his claiming her virginity will result in consequences that will change both their lives forever. What neither of them expect, however, is for Dominic to shift during the act.

* * * * *
As a predator, the animal had selected Serena as its mate, and needed her submission.  This was not something Dominic alone would have asked of her, but his beast was not asking, it was demanding.
Acting instinctively, Serena raised her hands to protect herself while a small part of her, the part of her that struggled to survive and win, wanted to scream and push the beast away.  But in her heart she knew for her and Dominic to truly unite, they needed to accept each other in every way.  She wanted this as much for herself as for Dominic, Felicity, and even Regina now.  Convincing herself she had more to lose than gain by not accepting his beast as she would him, Serena lowered her hands and laid them palms up on the bed in a sign of surrender.

And this is why it is always dangerous to make love with a magical shapeshifter.

Six Sentence Sunday - December 23 - Mortal Illusions #SixSunday

This material is Not Safe For Work. If you’re not over 18, please explore elsewhere.

Welcome to my 6SS where I hope to provide you with tiny little tidbits of the most sexy and sensuous moments in my books. My current post for 6SS, is from my 1st book, Mortal Illusions. A vampire romance published by New Concepts Publishing, Mortal Illusions is currently the first in a projected series of 3 books.  Its sequel, Fatal Desire, is currently under production.

This snippet occurs the morning after Claire Daniels and Germaine St. Justine's third night together.  Germaine has just finished coaxing Claire through a healthy workout session, which he convinced her to do in the nude.  Claire is eating breakfast as Germaine watches her.  Then his strong, tapered fingers move upwards to trail along her inner thigh.
* * * * *
Claire stopped eating and closed her eyes.  The mere touch of his hand started a warm flow of desire through her as her body prepared to welcome him in the age-old way of women and men.  She instinctively parted her legs in a silent invitation that his fingers did not hesitate to accept.
Knowing that he was watching her take pleasure from his touch made Claire's response all that more intense.  Her breakfast momentarily forgotten, she gripped the counter, pressed back in her chair and responded to the man who had taught her just how rapturous physical love could be.  She arched her back with a cry of un-suppressed delight, while her inner muscles contracted in ecstatic release.

The Next Big Thing - "Kiss Me Kate" Revisited

I was recently tagged by Sapphire Phelan to participate in The Next Big Thing where authors answer ten questions about their current works in progress. If you haven’t read Sapphire's post about what she’s working on now, jump over to her blog to take a look.

I love Fantasy/Paranormal Romances, and five dragon dynasties having to put aside their differences to fight a common darkness sounds intriguing.  Blend a little magical love into the mix and you have a winner.

Below are my ten Interview Questions for The Next Big Thing for me,

1, What is the working title of your book?  Currently it's "Kate and Peter," but I know that will change.  A few other titles I'm considering are: "Whatever it Takes," and "Winning Back Kate."

2. Where did the idea come from for the book?  It's a modern retelling of the Broadway musical "Kiss Me Kate" with a slight twist.

3. What genre does your book fall under?  A spanking romance (domestic discipline).  I try to write the type of story I enjoy reading where the hero will take extraordinary measures to keep and protect the woman he loves.

4. Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?  Like many authors, I have trouble with this question since I see the characters as their own person.  However, let me get on my casting couch and think about it for a moment.  Okay, for Kate, I'd like someone like Stana Katic from "Castle" for the role, and for Peter I'd like Henry Cavill of "The Tudors" and "Superman" fame.

5. What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?  An award-winning Broadway director is prepared to do whatever it takes to get his famous actress wife back in his bed and his life, even if it means administering a few painful reminders as to why she promised to obey him in her wedding vows.

6. Where do you plan to submit your book, or will you self published it?  As with my other spanking books, I plan to submit it to Blushing Books.

7. How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?  It was a NaNoWriMo project, so I did it in 30 days.  You are asking about my first rough draft of the manuscript, right?

8. What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?  I normally don't like to compare my books to others, but I have to say that it's similar to "Acting Out" by Sullivan Clarke, which I purchased because of the similarity I noticed in her blurb.  She has actors putting on "Kiss Me Kate" in her novel, but her characters don't know each other at the beginning of the book, while mine have been separated for six months after a five-year marriage.  So, they think they have the full measure of each other.

9. Who or What inspired you to write this book?  "Kiss Me Kate" is one of my favorite musicals, so it started with a "what if" question.  What if the show about a divorced couple coming together to put on a musical version of "The Taming of the Shrew" was actually being done by a recently separated couple who  incorporated spanking in their marriage?

10. What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?  For the climax, I added a scene near the end of the story where my heroine, Kate, decides to go totally off script for their opening night.  Good thing Peter knows how to ad lib.

Unfortunately, due to the holidays, I couldn't find anyone willing to be tagged at this time despite my calls.  So, looks like I'm it.

As part of the Holiday Gifts of Christmas Series, I thought I'd blog about the candy I associate the most with the holiday.  Below is the information I collected from various sources on the web.

The Candy Cane

The origin of the candy cane goes back over 350 years, when candy-makers both professional and amateur were making hard sugar sticks. The original candy was straight and completely white in color.

Around the seventeenth century, European-Christians began to adopt the use of Christmas trees as part of their Christmas celebrations. They made special decorations for their trees from foods like cookies and sugar-stick candy. The first historical reference to the familiar cane shape goes back to 1670, when the choirmaster at the Cologne Cathedral in Germany, bent the sugar-sticks into canes to represent a shepherd's staff. The all-white candy canes were given out to children during the long-winded nativity services.

The clergymen's custom of handing out candy canes during Christmas services spread throughout Europe and later to America. The canes were still white, but sometimes the candy-makers would add sugar-roses to decorate the canes further.

The first historical reference to the candy cane being in America goes back to 1847, when a German immigrant called August Imgard decorated the Christmas tree in his Wooster, Ohio home with candy canes.

The Stripes

About fifty years later the first red-and-white striped candy canes appeared. No one knows who exactly invented the stripes, but Christmas cards prior to the year 1900 showed only all-white candy canes. Christmas cards after 1900 showed illustrations of striped candy canes. Around the same time, candy-makers added peppermint and wintergreen flavors to their candy canes and those flavors then became the traditional favorites.

Sweet Secrets of the Candy Cane

There are many other legends and beliefs surrounding the humble candy cane. Many of them depict the candy cane as a secret symbol for Christianity used during the times when Christian were living under more oppressive circumstances. It was said that the cane was shaped like a "J" for Jesus. The red-and-white stripes represented Christ's blood and purity. The three red stripes symbolized the Holy Trinity. The hardness of the candy represented the Church's foundation on solid rock and the peppermint flavor represented the use of hyssop, an herb referred to in the Old Testament. There is no historical evidence to support these claims, quite the contrary, but they are lovely thoughts.

A recipe for straight peppermint candy sticks, white with colored stripes, was published in 1844. The candy cane has been mentioned in literature since 1866, was first mentioned in association with Christmas in 1874, and as early as 1882 was hung on Christmas trees. Chicago confectioners the Bunte Brothers filed the earliest patents for candy cane making machines in the early 1920s.

Holiday Gifts of Love - Christmas Plants

To enter comments for the blog hop, please scroll down or click "Holiday Gifts of Love Blog Hop" to reach the original post.  Comments posted against this article will not be counted for the main prize, so please click the link above.

This is my second article on Christmas Traditions.
To enter the blog hop scroll down or click here.

As part of the Holiday Gifts of Christmas Series, I thought I'd blog about the three plants I associate the most with the holiday.  Below is the information I collected from various sources on the web.

Mistletoe

The Druids believed mistletoe fell from heaven and grew onto a tree that sprang from Earth. Mistletoe thus represented the joining of heaven and earth, and God's reconciliation with mankind. A kiss under mistletoe symbolized acceptance and reconciliation.

The custom of using mistletoe to decorate houses at Christmas is a survival of the Druid and other pre-Christian traditions. According to custom, the mistletoe must not touch the ground between its cutting and its removal as the last of Christmas greens at Candlemas; it may remain hanging through the year, often to preserve the house from lightning or fire, until it is replaced the following Christmas Eve. Although the tradition has spread throughout the English-speaking world, it is largely unknown in the rest of Europe.

The Greeks also thought that it had mystical powers and down through the centuries it became associated with many folklore customs. In the Middle Ages and later, branches of mistletoe were hung from ceilings to ward off evil spirits. In Europe they were placed over house and stable doors to prevent the entrance of witches. It was also believed that the oak mistletoe could extinguish fire.

In Scandinavia, mistletoe was considered a plant of peace, under which enemies could declare a truce or warring spouses kiss and make-up. Later, the eighteenth-century English credited with a certain magical appeal called a kissing ball. At Christmas time a young lady standing under a ball of mistletoe, brightly trimmed with evergreens, ribbons, and ornaments, cannot refuse to be kissed. Such a kiss could mean deep romance or lasting friendship and goodwill.

The earliest documented case of kissing under the mistletoe dates from 16th century England, a custom that was apparently very popular at that time. According to custom, a man and a woman who meet under a hanging of mistletoe were obliged to kiss. The custom may be of Scandinavian origin. It was described in 1820 by American author Washington Irving in his "The Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon":
"The mistletoe is still hung up in farm-houses and kitchens at Christmas, and the young men have the privilege of kissing the girls under it, plucking each time a berry from the bush. When the berries are all plucked the privilege ceases."

Poinsettia

The plant's association with Christmas began in 16th century Mexico, where legend tells of a young girl who was too poor to provide a gift for the celebration of Jesus' birthday. The tale goes that the child was inspired by an angel to gather weeds from the roadside and place them in front of the church altar. Crimson "blossoms" sprouted from the weeds and became beautiful poinsettias. From the 17th century, Franciscan friars in Mexico included the plants in their Christmas celebrations.

The shape of the poinsettia flower and leaves are sometimes thought as a symbol of the Star of Bethlehem which led the Wise Men to Jesus. The red colored leaves symbolize the blood  sacrifice through the crucifixion of Jesus. The white leaves represent his purity. In Spain it is known as "Flor de Pascua", meaning "Easter flower". In both Chile and Peru, the plant became known as "Crown of the Andes".

Poinsettias are popular Christmas decorations in homes, churches, offices, and elsewhere across North America. In the United States, December 12 is National Poinsettia Day.

Holly

In pagan times, Holly was thought to be a male plant and Ivy a female plant. An old tradition from the Midlands of England says that whatever one was brought into the house first over winter, tells you whether the man or woman of the house would rule that year! But it was unlucky to bring either into a house before Christmas Eve.

Today, Christians consider holly symbolic of Jesus Christ in two ways. The red berries represent the blood that Jesus shed on the cross on the day he was crucified. Legend states that holly berries were originally white, but that the blood Christ shed for the sins of humankind stained the berries forever red. A holly's pointed leaves symbolize the crown of thorns placed on Jesus' head before he died on the cross.

The early Christians also believed the fact that the Holly helps in driving away the evil spirits as it is endowed with some magical powers. So, during Christmas time, the Holly was usually hung on doors, windows to prevent the entry of witches and evil spirits.

In Scandinavia the plant is known as the Christ Thorn.

Six Sentence Sunday - December 9 - A Dom's Dilemma

This material is Not Safe For Work. If you’re not over 18, please explore elsewhere.

Welcome to my 6SS where I hope to provide you with tiny little tidbits of the most sexy and sensuous moments in my books. Just 6 sentences, that I intend to build from my Horny Hump Day 3 sentence feature. The books might be already published, works-in-progress, or even sentences from other sexy books I think you’ll like.  Of course, I will properly attribute all works, even mine.

My post for this Sunday is from my 4th book, A Dom's Dilemma, an erotic BDSM/spanking novel released on October 6 by Blushing Books.  Kelly and Jim, the two main characters, appear as secondary characters in my third novel, Arrested by Love.

For this selection on Six Sentence Sunday, which continues from my October 14 Six Sentence Sunday, I decided to share the scene in A Dom's Dilemma where Jim is making love to Kelly for the first time and has positioned her on the bed like his own personal smorgasbord.  Though a little nervous, Kelly has been wanting Jim for a few days, and is eager to have him.  Despite his desire to spend time pleasurably torturing his feisty little sub, he also has an agenda, so he decides to make this one a "quickie."  What neither of them expects, however, is for Kelly's orgasm to deluge Jim.  Embarrassed, she admits she's never done that before....

* * * * *

"Never?" he asked on a laugh.  Then she came down on top of him, laughing almost as hard as he was.  She curled up on his lap and hugged him as she gave into the humor of the situation.
"Oh.  My.  God.  You should have seen your face," she said between gasps.
"Yeah, I can imagine how it looked.  But I think you're gonna need to get another towel, darlin', because I intend to get you so riled up, you're gonna flood this bed but good."

As their breathing returned to normal, Serena felt them being gently lowered back onto the bed.  She hadn’t known what to expect, but this exceeded even her wildest imaginings.

Then Dominic withdrew from her and in that instant, he shifted with a load roar.  Unsure what to do, Serena found herself staring up at a white leopard with blue eyes.  Its front paws sunk into the mattress near her shoulders, its hind paws rested on the outside of her legs and its massive jaws and teeth but a few inches from her throat.  Though it continued to emit low growls from deep in its throat, the large cat didn’t move, not even to bare its fangs.  Even so, for a moment, Serena wondered if this is what Felicity saw just before she died, but as she continued to look into those fathomless sea-blue eyes, Serena saw intelligence and something more.

And this is why it is always dangerous to make love with a magical shapeshifter.
