He caught her speeding in a school zone and decided she needed to learn even civil disobedience could have very painful consequences.
Another Friday, another excerpt to launch you into your weekend. For this Frisky Friday I am sharing a bit from my 3rd book, Arrested by Love. A handsome, but strict, police officer decides a spoiled socialite needs a special lesson in obeying the law.
Tiffany Morgan has been in love with Kyle Sinclair since she was ten years old, when he'd turned her over his knee for attempting to swim in a raging white water river. Though she'd been furious with him at the time, Tiffany never told her family what Kyle did. Instead, she began trailing after him like an annoying younger sister as she tried to gain his attention.
Now, eleven years later, Kyle, a patrol officer, is finding it much more difficult to maintain his distance from the irresistible and vivacious redhead who continues to invent ingenious ways to attract his interest. Though he dismissed her initial attraction to him as infatuation, as she grew-up, his own feelings of desire and protectiveness deepened. So, despite his constant struggle to resist the spirited little minx's lures, Kyle finally has to admit that he is losing the battle--badly.
The following section occurs about two-thirds through the book, and in it Tiffany isn't feeling the least bit frisky at the moment. Kyle and Tiffany have been separated for several weeks. She's refusing to see him after catching him in a lie, and her family has circled the wagons around her. Recently, Kyle learned Tiffany isn't doing well, so he decides to conduct a stake out near her home when he spots the family leaving the house. Tiffany is so weak, she can barely stand by herself. His protective instincts rushing to the fore, Kyle promptly intervenes. His presence seems to rally Tiffany's low spirits, even if it's only for a show of anger, so her father allows it, but informs Kyle if Tiffany prefers to be back home, he will do everything in his power to get her back. Kyle doesn't expect anything less as he carries Tiffany to his car and drives her to the doctor.
Once there, he takes full control by carrying Tiffany into an examination room. Though unhappy with Kyle's high-handedness, Tiffany doesn't argue until the nurse requests she take off all her clothes. Reluctant and stubborn, Tiffany insists she only has the flu, so Kyle takes charge to ensure his girl does exactly as she's told. However, after he gets her changed into the paper gown, Tiffany starts to tremble, so Kyle gets on the examining table with her and pulls her close to give her comfort and reassurance.

When Tiffany didn't argue, he said, "Good girl. Now close your eyes and relax. You can even sleep if you want to. You're safe in my arms now, Tiff. So, nothing bad can happen to you."
She didn't say anything, but after a moment he felt her
settle back against him. So that was how
they were positioned when the doctor walked in and regarded Kyle with surprise.
Dr. Sloan appeared to be a kindly, older gentleman
probably around the age of Tiffany's father.
He wore the requisite white coat and had a stethoscope draped around his
neck. But other than the slight rise of
his eyebrows at Kyle, he didn't look at all fazed at having two patients lying
on his examining table.
"I wasn't aware this was a two-for-one," Dr.
Sloan said softly with a smile as took a seat on the small stool in the
room and looked over Tiffany's chart. When
he was done, he glanced back at Kyle.
"I don't believe we've met."
"Kyle Sinclair," Kyle answered, keeping his
voice low so as not to awaken his sleeping beauty. "I'm Tiffany's soon-to-be-husband."
Dr. Sloan grinned.
"Nancy mentioned something about a dominant man being in the room
with Tiffany. I guess you must be
him."
"Guilty as charged," Kyle answered with a
responding grin.
Tiffany is upset with Kyle, but at the moment she is so ill, even glaring at him takes more energy than she's got, but Kyle refuses to leave her side again, blaming himself for not insisting upon seeing her a lot sooner than he did.
