Welcome back to Book Hooks, a regular Wednesday feature! In this blog loop, we hope to provide you with some tantalizing tidbits in our books.
My submission for this week's Book Hooks is from my 5th novel, Acting Lessons.
He was a strict and demanding college professor turned professional director who excelled at giving acting lessons. She was his shy and uncertain former student who became a professional actress under his tutelage. They fell in love, married, and won two Tony Awards before tragedy struck and a simple kiss ripped them apart.
After a six month separation, Peter Thorton decides to take matters into his own hands by making his famous wife, Kate, an offer she wouldn't refuse. Plainly put, he wants her back and he intends to do whatever is necessary to achieve his goal, even if it means giving his stubborn, willful leading lady a daily reminder over his knee that she promised to obey him.
In this scene, which occurs in chapter six, Peter Thorton has just finished giving his wife, Kate, a relatively mild spanking for defying his instructions, and is preparing to make love to her for the first time in over two years. Peter adores Kate, but he's not above teasing her a little before giving her what she wants and needs as he gently nibbles her into a writhing mass of desire. However, given her injured knee, he also wants to ensure nothing they do aggravates her torn meniscus, so he gently restrains her when she tries to counter-thrust against his pleasuring. Since they haven't been together for nearly six months, Peter enters Kate slowly to give her body time to adjust. However, passion soon claims them and when Peter climaxes, Kate realizes they didn't use protection. But what stuns her most is Peter's confession that he didn't sleep with anyone else during their six month separation. Peter, however, doesn't want to get into a conversation over the way Kate jumped to conclusions over the kiss she witnessed, so he tells her they'll discuss the issue another day.

"All
right," Kate agreed, wondering again if she hadn't made a serious
mistake. If she'd accused Peter of being
unfaithful to her, when he hadn't, he would have an excellent reason to be
upset with her. Furious even. And as much as she wouldn't like it, any
punishment he dispensed for her error in judgment would be justly
deserved. Except didn't he just admit
he'd been kissing Emily a few seconds ago?
Even if he refrained from moving their act into the bedroom, Kate had
sufficient cause to suspect they'd considered it. She'd like nothing more than to put the ugly
episode behind them, except more than her heart had been shattered that
afternoon. A part of her had died as
well.
He
sat watching her for a moment before he reached out and brushed a few strands
of hair off her forehead. "I love
you, Kate. You realize that, don't
you?"
Her
eyes started to burn as she nodded and said, "I love you, too. I never stopped."
"Nor
I. So, what do you say to a brand new
start between us?"
M/F, DD and a staged production of Kiss Me, Kate.
