#WIPitUP Wednesday - 12/27/17 - A Naughty New Year - Kelly hates the cane #BDSM #Holiday

WIP: Work in progress.  WIP it up Wednesday is a hop where writers share portions of the project they're working on with readers.  I really like the idea because it allows me to share something that's still in the creative stage as well as work behind the scenes as a prompt to keep me writing.

In keeping with the season, I've chosen to share another excerpt from "A Naughty New Year" today, which is part of the "Mischief Under the Mistletoe" anthology. The novella is in two parts with the first centering around a New Year's Eve party Kelly Evans and her husband Jim are throwing for their best friends Kyle and Tiffany Sinclair and the fact champagne looks an awful lot like ginger ale.

Kelly Evans is nearly six months pregnant when her Dom husband, Jim, suggests they invite their closest friends over for a private New Year's Eve party. Just a friendly get together, nothing kinky, and no champagne for either of the girls, since Kelly's friend, Tiffany, was a month along further than she was. Given it's New Year's Eve, Kelly feels Jim's no-champagne edict isn't fair, but Jim warns her if she goes against his wishes, she will be punished. Though Kelly understands Jim's reasoning, she still feels he's merely being over-protective, and as much as she loves him, a sip of champagne never hurt anyone. That is until Jim informs her she's getting the cane for her shenanigans, hoping she'll learn never to be complacent again about his promised punishments.

The silence stretched between them until she asked, "Will you hold me first?"
He shook his head. "Not before, but I will cuddle and kiss all you want afterward."
"I'm sorry," she sobbed, and Jim felt his resolve start to crumble, so he turned away. He loved her with all his heart, and didn't enjoy seeing her in pain or unhappy, but if he didn't follow through on his promises, she'd stop believing him. And he couldn't allow that.
"Go to the bedroom and prepare yourself, Kelly. I will join you shortly." Turning he strode down the hall to his office.

Jim sat behind his desk to allow Kelly time to compose herself. Even though it wasn't what she expected, or he had originally intended, five stripes from the cane wasn't an onerous punishment. She would undoubtedly still feel some heat from her backside tomorrow, but the discomfort shouldn't interfere with anything she wanted to do during the day. As for that, he didn't expect it would hinder her pleasure this evening, either.
Kelly hadn't lost respect for him, exactly, but she had begun to anticipate how he would react to a given situation and even accepted his displeasure to a certain point. The fact that she worried earlier about losing his trust if she went against his wishes proved she wasn't entirely at ease about disappointing him. But she assumed he would remain with their drawn lines and keep to the same colors he usually used. He meant to disabuse her of those assumptions tonight.
He had agreed to drawing up a penalty chart for her peace of mind, and he didn't object to adhering to it. What he did object to, however, was her unfounded conviction that he would never deviate in his approach. Suppositions like those bred only boredom and complacency. Routines had their place, as did limitations and safewords, but as her Dom, Jim needed to make certain his actions weren't so predictable Kelly grew nonchalant about their activities. He wanted her to feel safe and protected when they were together, but never blasé about his intentions.
When he'd given her enough time to calm down, he collected the cane from the closet he kept locked in his office and strode to the bedroom. Kelly stood beside the bed with her arms wrapped around her front. She had put on a robe in violation of his long-standing instructions that she strip naked for a punishment. Though he understood it was uncertainty, rather than defiance, that caused her to cover herself.
"You're wearing too many clothes," he commented, placing the twenty-four inch Delrin rod on the mattress.

Kelly had known there would be consequences for drinking. Jim had warned her. Though he understands she wanted to party a little on New Year's Eve, the fact she decided to risk displeasing him and accept a spanking in order to do what she wanted made him think he needed to be a little less predictable in his punishments.

Note about the characters in this story:

Kelly and Jim are two of my favorite characters. Kelly can be such a brat at times and Jim gives her a lot of leeway, but even he has limits. This story is the latest, chronologically, in their time line, though by the time its published it should be the fourth in a series subtitled Unexpected Consequences.

So, if you want to know how their sometimes stormy relationship started, they first appeared in Arrested by Love as secondary characters, but like all good primary characters insisted on their own story, which developed into A Dom's Dilemma. Both books, originally released in 2010, are being numbered, reedited and reissued with new covers in late November, along with a new third book, entitled Learning to be Little: Kelly's Story. Though the newest book in the series, Learning to be Little begins immediately after A Dom's Dilemma, it then takes the reader into Kelly's past, where she shares her introduction to age play and BDSM with Graham White in a sequel/prequel. The story is a departure for me in that the majority of its chronological time line takes place before the two books I've already published, but it belongs in the middle of the series. I expect two, possibly three more books in the series to be available in the near future.

#MFRWHooks - 12/20/17 - A Naughty New Year - Though Jim is only teasing Kelly, there's a warning in his words #BDSM #Holiday

Champagne was meant for celebrating, and this was a party.

Welcome back to Book Hooks, a regular Wednesday feature! In this blog loop, we hope to provide you with some tantalizing tidbits in our books.

In keeping with the season, my submission for this week's Book Hooks is from my Holiday novella A Naughty New Year, which is part of the "Mischief Under the Mistletoe" anthology.

Besides, their guests had just arrived, and even though it would mean disobeying her husband and Dom, not staying to greet them would be rude.

"You look beautiful, Tiffany. That black chiffon flatters your figure."
Tiffany let out an unladylike snort. "Right. The camel look is so 'in' today."
Both Jim and Kyle opened their mouths to argue, but Kelly waved them to silence. She understood what Tiffany meant, and contradicting her would only exacerbate the issue. Her smile broad and welcoming, Kelly extended an arm, then dropped it. Vanna White she wasn't. "Come on into the living room, you two, and have a seat near the fire." She ushered them forward before turning to hand Tiffany's coat to Jim who already held Kyle's. "I'm going. I'm going," she muttered in whisper.
"You'd better," he whispered, freeing one hand to deliver a warning smack to her behind. Not hard, but firm enough to tingle.
"Ow," she mouthed with an exaggerated frown as she back-stepped toward their friends, pleased to note the twinkle in his eye that belied his stern glower. She grinned, then twirled around to join the couple who remained standing. "Sit wherever you like," she prompted. "We don't assign seats here."
"Tiffany's ankles have been swelling lately."
"Kyle!" Tiffany protested with a cuff to his shoulder, but he merely clasped her hand in his and ignored her.
"Is there any way we could prop her feet up while she sits?"
"Sure. Let me get an ottoman from Jim's office."
"Kellian," Jim snapped, stopping Kelly in her tracks. "I will get the foot stool. Both you and Tiffany should sit down. Now."
The only time Jim called Kelly by her full first name was when he was determined she listen and obey without delay. It was cause for concern. "Yes, Sir," she replied softly, letting him know she got the message loud and clear.
Giving her a curt nod, he strode into his office while Kelly gazed at Tiffany.
"Sorry," Tiffany mouthed silently.
Kelly shrugged. "Why don't we sit together on the couch? That way we can chat more easily."
When Tiffany agreed, they sat down and gave each other a conspiratorial grin. Subdued, but not cowed, Kelly thanked Jim when he set the ottoman down by Tiffany. The scowl she received in return was more disgruntled than angry, so she took heart that even if all wasn't forgiven, he wasn't nearly as put out as he strove to appear.
"So, what would you ladies like to drink?" he inquired politely as Kyle bent forward to help raise Tiffany's now shoeless feet on the cassock.
"What are we allowed to have?" Kelly asked sweetly.
"You? Water, and maybe a little bread later, if I'm feeling generous."
Kyle grinned. "What? Prison rations already? We've got at least five hours until midnight. Isn't that going to make for an awfully long evening?"
"Right now she's lucky I'm not flogging her for insubordination."
"Kelly. Kelly. Kelly," Kyle teased with mock disapproval.
Kelly wrinkled her nose in reply.
"What would you like to drink, Tiffany?" Jim asked again.
"Whatever you have is fine, but I'd love some Ginger Ale if you've got any."
"Ginger Ale, coming right up. Kelly?"
"Ginger Ale's good for me too, if it's allowed."
"Possibly," he conceded. "Help yourself to the hors d'oeuvres, folks. They're Texas favorites."

Kelly adores Jim, but she needs to convince him that pregnancy has not turned her into an invalid. She's perfectly capable of doing all the things she did before.

Kelly and Jim are two of my favorite characters. Kelly can be such a brat at times and Jim gives her a lot of leeway, but even he has limits. #WIPitUP - 11/29/17 - A Naughty New Year - Kelly is faced with a severe punishment #holiday #BDSM

WIP: Work in progress.  WIP it up Wednesday is a hop where writers share portions of the project they're working on with readers.  I really like the idea because it allows me to share something that's still in the creative stage as well as work behind the scenes as a prompt to keep me writing.

That is until Jim informs her she's getting the cane for her shenanigans, hoping she'll learn never to be complacent again about his promised punishments.

She shook her head now, but the tears started to flow more copiously. He knew she despised the cane. Not so much because it hurt more, though it did, but because he wouldn't be able to hold her throughout the ordeal. He'd come to realize early on that she took comfort from being held, so she detested any punishment that forced them apart. For that reason, he tended to reserve instruments requiring he maintain a certain distance between them for her more serious infractions. He chose it tonight because even though she'd practically asked permission to disobey him, she went ahead and defied his wishes due to some assumptions she'd made about his discipline. That meant she was growing more complacent about his methods. And as her Dom, he couldn't allow her to become content with his dissatisfaction.
"But I thought—"
"I understand what you thought, but you were wrong. It's never wise to assume, sugar. Who decides when and how you are to be disciplined?"
"You do," she muttered forlornly.
"Correct. So, are you willin' to accept your punishment?"
"I'm not sure. I hate the cane. It hurts more and leaves welts that throb for a day at least."
"But those marks also serve as a reminder, don't they?"
"You said you didn't mind."
"No. Again, you mistook my words. In fact, I specifically said I wouldn't be at all happy if you disobeyed my wishes, but agreed to treat the offense as a level one."
"Level ones don't require a cane," she protested, swiping at her eyes.
Jim didn't reply. He'd already made the point that this was his decision and she was attempting to negotiate a lighter punishment. She had a habit topping from the bottom and he refused to play that game, even if he were inclined to permit her leniency in this case. Still, the choice to submit was hers. He'd never force her to accept discipline from his hand. They had a partnership, and she had to be a willing participant in her punishments, even when she didn't think she deserved them.

Kelly had known there would be consequences for drinking. Jim had warned her. Though he understands she wanted to party a little on New Year's Eve, the fact she decided to risk displeasing him and accept a spanking in order to do what she wanted made him think he needed to be a little less predictable in his punishments.

#MFRWHooks - 11/22/17 - A Naughty New Year - They're having a party #MFRWAuthor #Mischief

She needed a savior. He wanted a little girl. So, he made her an offer she couldn't refuse.

Welcome back to Book Hooks, a regular Wednesday feature! In this blog loop, we hope to provide you with some tantalizing tidbits in our books.

My submission for this week's Book Hooks is from my Christmas novella A Naughty New Year, which is part of the "Mischief Under the Mistletoe" anthology. The novella is in two parts with the first centering around a New Year's Eve party Kelly Evans and her husband Jim are throwing for their best friends Kyle and Tiffany Sinclair and the fact champagne looks an awful lot like ginger ale.

Their friends due to arrive in any second, Kelly steps out of their bedroom in her party dress.

"You're a sight for sore eyes, doll."
"Think so?" she asked giving a playful twirl.
"Oh, yeah. I do." Then he moved forward to loosely wrap his arms about her. "You feelin' okay?"
"I'm fine. Why?"
"You're lookin' a little flushed. You worked your butt off for this party and I'm worried you might have overdone things a bit."
She stepped in closer to him, put her hands on his hips and gazed up at him with a dazzling smile. "I'm perfect, and I can't wait to show you just how perfect I am, later."
"It's a date," he replied, grinning back at her, tempted to sneak in a kiss when the doorbell rang.
* * *
Kelly turned to open the door, but Jim tightened his grip. "Unh uh," he warned. "That's what husbands are for. Your job is to plop down, relax and look beautiful. Now go do as you're told," he ordered giving her backside a gentle swat.
In a show of compliance, Kelly reluctantly took a step toward the living room, but remained in the hallway. He was being bossy and overprotective, but she wasn't about to be so rude as to not greet their guests.
"Happy New Year. Come on in, folks," Jim greeted as he opened the door wide.
"Happy New Year!" Kyle and Tiffany replied in a chorus. Then Tiffany added with a giggle of delight. "It's snowing."
Kelly stepped forward to take her friend's coat and gave her a hug before she brushed away a few of the tiny crystal flakes slowly melting in Tiffany's red hair. "White glitter on crimson silk. Pretty. It must be falling down hard. Your hair would have been veiled in white if you'd stayed out much longer."
"I don't care," Tiffany confessed, returning Kelly's hug. "I love the snow."
"So do I," Kelly admitted, catching Jim's warning frown. Yeah, yeah. She hadn't obediently dropped into a chair like he'd ordered. Too bad. Complimenting her friend was more important.

Kelly adores Jim, but she needs to convince him that pregnancy has not turned her into an invalid. She's perfectly capable of doing all the things she did before.

WIPitUP - 11/15/17 - A Naughty New Year - Predictability breeds assumptions #Holiday #Spanking Romance

WIP: Work in progress.  WIP it up Wednesday is a hop where writers share portions of the project they're working on with readers.  I really like the idea because it allows me to share something that's still in the creative stage as well as work behind the scenes as a prompt to keep me writing.

Though Kelly understands Jim's reasoning, she still feels he's merely being over-protective, and as much as she loves him, a sip of champagne never hurt anyone. That is until now.

When the other couple had left, Kelly regarded Jim with an uncertain look. "Would you have really punished Tiffany if she'd stayed?"
"You ever hear me make an idle threat?"
"No, Sir."
"I'd say you got your answer, then. Why don't we go to bed? We can clean up in the morning."
"Bed?"
"Bedroom," he corrected. "You and I have some unfinished business to see to before we go to sleep. Wouldn't you agree?"
"Are you angry?" she asked softly.
Jim understood Kelly sought some reassurance from him, but he'd already buffered his response quite a bit in the kitchen and wasn't sure further comforting would be in her best interest. So, he folded his arms across his chest and stared down at her. "No. Not angry. Did you drink champagne tonight?"
"Yes, Sir." She bent her head as her voice emerged with the tentativeness of a frightened child.
"Then, I suggest you go ready yourself while I fetch the cane."
Her head snapped up. "Cane? But you said you'd use your hand."
"No. I only stated the number you'd be receivin', not how I intended to deliver 'em."
Eyes welling with tears, she gazed at him. "You said five whacks. Level one punishments are swats given on a bare bottom with your hand. You didn't say anything about a cane."
"The word 'whack' is generic, Kelly. You know that. I never meant for it to imply that all your punishments would be hand to butt."

Kelly had known there would be consequences for drinking. Jim had warned her. Though he understands she wanted to party a little on New Year's Eve, the fact she decided she'd risk displeasing him and accept a spanking in order to do what she wanted made him think he needed to be a little less predictable in his punishments.

WIPitUP - 11/8/17 - A Naughty New Year - Pregnant ladies are not supposed to drink #BDSM #Anthology #Holiday

WIP: Work in progress.  WIP it up Wednesday is a hop where writers share portions of the project they're working on with readers.  I really like the idea because it allows me to share something that's still in the creative stage as well as work behind the scenes as a prompt to keep me writing.

The WIP I've chosen to share today is  titled "A Naughty New Year, " which is part of the "Mischief Under the Mistletoe" anthology. The novella is in two parts with the first centering around a New Year's Eve party Kelly Evans and her husband Jim are throwing for their best friends Kyle and Tiffany Sinclair and the fact champagne looks an awful lot like ginger ale.

Some story background:

Kyle is a police officer and Jim is detective, and they are both Doms, though Kyle is far more easy going than Jim as far as protocol goes. Below is a little of their history from Jim's POV.

The two men had grown closer after Kelly embarrassed them by throwing a disruptive temper tantrum at the police station where they both worked. The fact that Kyle had been Kelly's Dom a few months back didn't bother Jim quite so much now that he'd wrapped a ring around his lady's finger. In addition, Kyle had always been secretly in love with Tiffany, so his stint with Kelly had been more like biding his time putting a thoroughbred through its paces rather than riding the filly he intended to spend the rest of his life with. However, Kelly never did things half way, so she demanded Kyle's attention even when she suspected he wasn't the right man for her.
Adding insult to injury, instead of dealing with Kelly himself, Kyle handed her over to Jim for punishment. Being traded like a pack of baseball cards did not settle well with the temperamental thoroughbred. Not at all. He and Kelly had had a rough start due to some unfortunate miscommunication in their early days, which when combined with Jim's initial reluctance to take up the reins on a permanent basis, caused Kelly more than a little heartache and uncertainty. He didn't mind applying the whip now and again, but keeping Kelly in line back then proved to be a full time job, which he'd neither signed up for nor wanted. However, when her life was threatened, everything changed. He grew protective and possessive of the feisty submissive as he realized he was smitten. Big time.

That is until now.

As the night drew on, Kelly blushed and giggled a lot. Tiffany, however, grew exceptionally loud as she told everyone how Kyle had offered to help her with the laundry by doing his whites, unaware she'd added dye to the fabric softener bottle as a joke. "So, he was stuck wearing hot pink underwear until we could bleach most of it out. They're still a pretty blush color."
"Not funny," Kyle murmured beneath his breath.
Amused, Jim regarded Kelly with a twinkle in his eye. "Don't get any ideas," he warned.
"I don't have the faintest notion what you're talking about," she simpered before taking another sip.
When Tiffany continued to disclose other intimate stories with uncharacteristic amusement, Kyle turned to Jim with a puzzled expression. "Do you understand what's going on?"
"Precisely what I said might happen?"
With a frown at his wife, Kyle asked, "Are you drinking champagne?"
"And what if I am?" she challenged. "I'm an adult."
"You're also pregnant and drunk. Not a good combination by half."
Tiffany snorted then added insult to injury by sticking her tongue out at him. When Kelly slapped a hand over her mouth and giggled, Jim gave her a warning swat. "Behave."
"You'd best put that pink little tongue back where it belongs, young lady, or it will be covered in soap when we get home."
Tiffany frowned. "You can be a real party pooper at times. You know that, Kyle Sinclair?"
"And you can be a troublesome brat when it suits you, Mrs. Sinclair. I'd say it's time I take you home." He gave Tiffany a slight push, but she refused to move.
"I don't wanna go, yet. The party's just starting. And you're a poopy head."
Kyle's eyes grew wide. "What did you just call me?"
"A poopy head," she repeated, slurring her words a little.
"How much champagne did you drink tonight?"
"Not enough," she claimed, holding up her glass. "Kelly, may I have another?"
Kelly started to rise, but Jim clamped a hand to her waist and shook his head. "You've both had your fill, I think. That bubbly stuff has clearly gone to your heads.
"I'm not drunk," Kelly protested with a lopsided pout.
"I'll bet if Kyle were to give you a breathalyzer test right now, you'd fail."
Kelly shrugged and Tiffany lowered her raised glass with a glower at Kelly. "Your husband's being a poopy head, too."
Though she smiled, Kelly wisely chose not to echo Tiffany's sentiment.
Kyle placed both his hands on Tiffany's hips and lifted her from his lap. "Enough. Jim, could you collect our coats, please?" he requested as he stood to steady Tiffany
"Sure." Jim helped Kelly to her feet and made sure she could stand without problem before he strode into the bedroom to fetch their coats. Once there, he laughed silently. He found it difficult to maintain a stern demeanor when he was struggling not to laugh out loud, but his role as Kelly's husband and Dom required him to take a firm stance. He would ensure his unrepentant wife paid for her naughtiness, but it was the after-party he intended to have with her that perked his true interest.
Tiffany was still arguing with Kyle when Jim returned.
"You go home, if you want. I'm staying. I'll call a taxi when I'm ready to leave."
"Unless you want me to put you over my knee here and now, I suggest you button that unruly mouth of yours and get your coat on.
Tiffany crossed her arms and stamped her foot. "No!"
His lips tight with annoyance, Kyle glanced over at Jim.
Folding Tiffany's woolen coat over his arm, Jim moved closer to the recalcitrant woman. "You're more than welcome to stay with us, Tiffany. We'd love to have you, but I feel I should warn you about something before you decide. If you choose to remain, you will be subject to the same discipline Kelly will be receiving tonight. So, you can either face the consequences of your actions with your husband, in the privacy of your own home, or face them here. Publicly. With me and Kelly. Your choice. Though I think you'll discover I'm far less gentle than Kyle in that regard."
Tiffany snatched her coat from Jim's hold without another word, but Kyle stepped forward to help her put it on.
"Thank you both," Kyle murmured. "The appetizers were delicious, and the company delightful as always."
"Any time, bud," Jim replied with a warm smile.

Though Jim appears easy-going and forgiving about Kelly's disregard for his wishes, she's going to discover that appearances can be deceiving and even smiling Doms can pack a wallop.
