#SPeekSunday - 4/26/15 - Past Interference - Arthur Benson doesn't give up easily #CorbinsBend #LoveInTheRockies

It's Sneak Peek Sunday!  Yay!  And I'm sharing an excerpt from my new spanking novella in the Corbin's Bend series, Past Interferencethe sequel to A Simple Misunderstanding. Past Interference is part of the Corbin's Bend Valentine's Day collection "Love in the Rockies," and is not being sold separately.

What she needed was the opposite of what she wanted.

In this scene, which occurs near the beginning of Chapter Three, Eleanor Benson (Elly) is six days away from getting married again, and her doubts are eating her alive.  After suffering through a bout of stress-related migraines, she's finally gotten up enough courage to tell her husband-to-be that she's not sure she wants to get married.  Jerry knows Elly is nervous, but believed he'd managed to convince her he is nothing at all like her first husband, Arthur, who abused her.  Unfortunately, when he realizes Elly  still thinks he will turn into an abusive monster once they're married, despite all his gentle reassurances, his hurt pride causes him to snap at her in anger before he returns to his vet clinic next door. Elly realizes she's made a serious mistake, but has no idea how to fix things between them, so she decides to go for a walk, hoping the crisp, winter air will help clear her head. As she tromps through the Colorado snow, she recalls the last time her abusive ex-husband attempted to confront her. Jerry and Brent were with her then, and Jerry promptly went into his protective mode, which Brent, as leader of the community and a former police officer, quickly overrode.

“Jerry...” Brent cautioned softly. “Let me handle this, please.”
Jerry clamped his lips together and curled his hands into fists at his sides until Elly reached for one. He promptly turned to face her, effectively blocking her from Arthur’s view and clasped her hands in his. Giving them a gentle squeeze, he mouthed, “I’m sorry about this.”
“Eleanor, I want to explain —”
“Benson, leave now or you will be hauled back to prison,” Brent warned, his voice reflecting years of experience. He wouldn’t hesitate to follow through, and they all knew it.
“You can’t keep me from my wife. It’s illegal.”
“Not when she’s filed a restraining order against you, it’s not. She doesn’t wish to see or speak with you. Now leave.”

Elly felt surrounded by Jerry's love then, and now she fears she may have ruined the best thing that ever happened to her.

Blurb:

Valentine's Day in Corbin's Bend.  As Elly Benson readies herself for her second wedding, the doubts and misgivings of any new bride-to-be are exacerbated by the abuse she suffered during her first marriage.

Though she's lived with Jerry Douglas for four months now, and been subject to his discipline more than once, Elly's first husband had been kind and careful with her, too, until the day she vowed to love, honor and obey him.  The lessons she's learned from the past make her doubt she can ever find happiness in the future.
