Six Sentence Sunday - January 29 - Mortal Illusions

This material is Not Safe For Work. If you’re not over 18, please explore elsewhere.

Welcome to my 6SS where I hope to provide you with tiny little tidbits of the most sexy and sensuous moments in my books. Just 6 sentences, that I intend to build from my Horny Hump Day 3 sentence feature. The books might be already published, works-in-progress, or even sentences from other sexy books I think you’ll like.  Of course, I will properly attribute all works, even mine.

My current post for 6SS, is from my 1st book, Mortal Illusions. A vampire romance published by New Concepts Publishing, Mortal Illusions is currently the first in a projected series of 3 books.  It's sequel, Fatal Desire, is currently under production. In this segment, Claire Daniels has finally convinced the two hundred year-old vampire, she hopes will ultimately save her brother's life, into making love to her.  But this vampire's bite is decidedly different from anything she's ever seen in the movies!
* * * * *

By the time he'd removed her underclothing, Claire was begging him to take her, to make her his totally and completely.  Her entire body was engulfed with a raging heat that he alone possessed the power to cool.  There was no embarrassment, no second thoughts, just a heartfelt yielding from one individual to another.
Germaine did not deny her a second longer, and Claire's climb to ecstasy accelerated as her heated blood flowed from her into him in an outpouring of love and desire intermingled.  Claire felt as if her heart might burst from the pleasure, yet there was no pain--just a serene tranquillity that she embraced without fear or reservation.

Frisky Friday - The Infamous C-Word and its Origin

Okay.  Okay!  I'll admit that the "c-word" is one of my least favorite terms for females and/or a certain part of their anatomy.  Just doesn't "do it" for me.  However, I was somewhat intrigued by the following article posted in The Huffington Post.  Despite the prurient nature of its topic, the article itself is very dry, which brought on more than a few giggles from me.  All right, I'll also confess that I'm somewhat childish at times.  But occasionally my funny bone is tickled by inappropriate words and discussions.  So, here it is, in its rather long and dry entirety, along with a direct link to the article.  For those inquiring minds who like to delve into word origins or the sources of profanity...  Read on!

THE INFAMOUS C-WORD AND ITS ORIGIN
Huffington Post - 2012/01/25

By Anatoly Liberman for the OUP Blog, Oxford Etymologist

Like all word columnists, I keep receiving the same questions again and again. Approximately once a month someone asks me about the origin of the F-word, the C-word, and gay.

Well, the C-word has been investigated in great detail, and a few conjectures are not so bad. By way of introduction, I should note that, judging by the examples in the OED, the English C-word was not offensive or at least not always offensive in Middle English. No combination of sounds appeals to our prurient instincts because of their intrinsic qualities.

To shock or make us blush, they need a certain attitude on our part. Hoochie-coochie may be funny or indecent, but by itself it is neither “good” nor “bad.” In such matters, everything is a matter of agreement. “I am a woman of an unspotted reputation,” protests Clelia, featured in Spectator No. 276, “and know nothing I have ever done which should encourage such insolence; but here was one, the other day,—and he was dressed like a gentleman, too—who took the liberty to name the words lusty fellow in my presence” (quoted by Fitzedward Hall in his book Recent Exemplifications of False Philology. New York, 1872). The protagonist in Virginia Woolf’s Orlando fainted at seeing a woman’s ankle. Keep reading and don’t faint.

Words for the genitals and sexual activities have always been tabooed, but not necessarily out of prudery. Throughout history people have believed that pronouncing the name of a thing aloud can have practical consequences; hence universal belief in curses and charms. Therefore, for example, the Germanic word for “bear” (= “a brown one”) is the product of taboo. If you disguise the animal’s real name, the brute, which, of course, knows what it is called (the name was taken for an integral, natural part of everybody and everything that exists), may not come.

All kinds of prohibitions connected with sex are of the same nature: being too open with words may have deleterious effects on health, sexual power, and childbearing. People would intentionally garble words (transpose sounds in them, coin a rhyming synonym, and so forth; compare gosh, golly, and other euphemisms for god). Perhaps also thanks to taboo, the same word may designate the buttocks and the vagina (there is less fear to offend the backside than the genitals), though other reasons are not unthinkable: both the anus and the vagina are hollows; compare the much-discussed history of fanny. In addition, contiguous organs and body parts are sometimes called the same. For instance, Latin vulva meant both “vagina” and “womb.” To complicate matters even more, words in question are often borrowed from other languages. For instance, the origin of poontang is debatable, but it is almost certainly a “loan” from abroad. All this makes an etymologist’s task hard, sometimes even hopeless.

Finally, there are innumerable descriptive and playful names for the genitals. Is our C**t one of them? I have looked at Classical Greek, Elizabethan, Modern German, and American students’ names for “vagina, vulva” and compared them with a list collected from the Samoyeds, a Ural-Altaic people inhabiting the tundra lands of the north, and another list from Italian dialects, that is, words used by people having minimal contact with book culture. The repertory is rich but similar the world over. The vagina can be “a hole” (with positive or depreciating epithets), any type of orifice, “a slit,” “a crack,” “a sack,”, “a hill” (alluding to the mons Veneris), “a house,” “a vessel” (numerous varieties, including “cup”), “a stove” (a veritable Freudian feast), “a berry,” “a hair house” (hence hairy Mary, bush, and beaver hunting), and “a penis” (with or without reference to the clitoris). However, having the same metaphor or even the same word for both “penis” and “vagina” is not typical. I have excluded from my survey such descriptive terms as rosebud and love box and silly formations like fuzzy-muzzy. Whether all of them have been invented by men is a moot question. It has been observed that the words for “vagina” hardly ever refer to what comes out of it, but only to what enters it; the thought process is directed toward coitus, not procreation.

The most common words for “vagina” in the Germanic languages sound approximately like put, fut, and kut ~ kunt (u frequently alternates with o in them). An unsolved question is whether they are in any way connected, that is, whether we are dealing with some sort of rhyming slang, taboo, or even variants of fuzzy-muzzy. As a rule, they are looked upon as three independent words, each of which needs an etymology.

A related question is whether n in kunt belongs to the original root. Numerous words in Germanic have so-called nasalized variants, that is, n is secondary in them. Dutch kont (which, incidentally, means both “buttocks” and, in dialects, “vagina”) has a synonym kut. Engl. cut, now obsolete or dialectal (mainly northern), was defined in the OED as an opprobrious term for women (its synonym is cutty). This cut ended up as one of the senses of the noun cut “something cut (off),” but it is almost certainly a different word. The path from cut ~ kut to kunt ~ kont is easier to imagine than from kunt ~ kont to cut ~ kut. If n is secondary, comparison with Latin cunnus “vulva” (known to English speakers from cunnilingus) becomes impossible.

Also, double n in cunnus needs an explanation. It has been suggested, on the strength of Greek and Lithuanian cognates, that cunnus goes back to kus-nus. Regardless of the origin of -nn-, Latin k- should have corresponded to English h-. However, this may not be an insurmountable obstacle in dealing with kunt, because if the protoform began with sk-, the k ~ k correspondence is possible, on condition that both Latin and Germanic or one of them lost s- along the way. Initial s- is unstable in Indo-European, and there is even a special term for it, namely s mobile (movable s). With so many undocumented steps, an ancient tie between the Germanic and the Latin noun begins to look rather improbable.

The Old English for kin was cynn, with y from u by umlaut (some related words are kind “variety,” kind “generous, warmhearted,” kindred, and German Kind “child”). Kunt can be related to cynn, only if its -t is a suffix, and Lithuanian gimtis “sex” gives some support to this reconstruction, but there are hardly any examples of a word for “sex” or “birth” yielding the name for “vagina.”

Besides this, it seems preferable not to separate the kut ~ kot group from kunt, thus taking -t for part of the root. Most likely, the initial form of the word we are exploring was kut- or kot-. Dutch kut ~ Engl. cut, as noted, mean the same or practically the same as the C-word.

Therefore, I gravitate toward the conclusion that Germanic kunt is indeed a nasalized variant of kut (because of taboo or for expressive purposes). Given this etymology, kin, along with Latin cunnus, fades out of the picture. The origin of cut ~ kut may not be too obscure. It is probably related to Engl. cot (cottage is the same word with a French suffix added). Dutch kot means “sheep pen; dog kennel; pigsty,” and the English dovecote (which should not be fluttered) belongs with them. Obviously, we have here the name of an animal house, an enclosure or some elevation above the ground. If so, our word may once have meant “hole” or “little house,” both being among the most common designations for “vagina” in various languages. The distant origin of the root need not bother us here. Dutch kuit “fish roe, spawn,” presumably from “soft mass,” should also stay outside our picture. The history of Germanic fut ~ fot and put ~ pot is a special story.

Six Sentence Sunday - January 22 - Mortal Illusions

This material is Not Safe For Work. If you’re not over 18, please explore elsewhere.

Welcome to my 6SS, a regular Sunday feature of erotic romping. In this offering, I hope to provide you with tiny little tidbits of the most sexy and sensuous moments in my books. Just 6 sentences, that I intend to build from my Horny Hump Day 3 sentence feature. The books might be already published, works-in-progress, or even sentences from other sexy books I think you’ll like.  Of course, I will properly attribute all works, even mine.

My current post is from my 3rd book, Arrested by Love.  An erotic spanking novel published by Blushing Books. In Arrested by Love Tiffany Morgan, a twenty-one-year-old carefree socialite, has fallen "head over heels" in love with Kyle Sinclair, her handsome and somewhat friendly local patrol officer.  Being both a policeman and a former BDSM Dominant, Kyle tended to express his occasional displeasure over Tiffany's antics with an intimate, panties down, over the knee spanking.  But Tiffany prevailed and eventually caught her police officer, who, after asking her to marry him, has taken Tiffany on a secluded picnic to give the woman he adores everything she'd been attempting to seduce out of him for the past three years.

* * * * *

Helping her remove the rest of her clothing, Kyle placed his lips between her legs, giving her what she wanted and loving the heady taste that was uniquely hers.  She clenched her fingers in his hair with a grip that was nearly painful as he paid special attention to the tiny, sensitive pearl that beckoned for his kiss.  After his tongue paid proper court to the small morsel, he used his teeth to gently coax her to a climax, which he tasted just seconds afterwards as she screamed his name.
Immediately gentling his touch, Kyle lightly lapped her with his tongue until he felt the tiny spasms of her orgasms fade off and she sighed.  Then looking up at her, he grinned at the expression of pure bliss on her face.
While she lay on the picnic cloth, with every muscle relaxed, he finished undressing himself and was just lowering his jockey shorts when she opened her eyes and gasped.

Frisky Fridays - Naughty Playthings and Serious Punishments

Okay, for this Friday, I decided to include pictures of some toys I found at Adam and Eve.  Now, I'm not really a "toy" person, but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy looking at some pictures and wondering.  (Hey, I'm a fiction writer, remember?  I'm allowed to wonder about such things.)

I also came across an article about DD (Domestic Discipline) that concerned "silent spankings."  Now, I'm far from being an expert on DD or even BDSM for that matter, but I'd never heard of these before.  So, in between the toys, I'll add the post I read about "silent spankings," which are spankings that need to be given when sounds of crying or swats aren't really an option.

Note: DD does not condone D/s (Dominance and Submission) although in my mind, the two can have a lot in common as long as there is mutual respect, trust and total consent involved between two adults.  Partners in DD may not agree with me.

Silent Spankings
Clint

There are times when you can't spank the "traditional" way in the privacy of your own home.  Sometimes you're out of town, or sometimes you have guests at the house, or sometimes you just simply don't have the time if you need to be somewhere soon.  Silent spankings offer an alternative to the traditional way of spanking and, if done properly, can yield the results you're looking for.

There are two forms of silent spankings I'm comfortable with recommending.  The first one can be done very quickly.

Silent Spanking Option #1: Capsaicin Cream - This cream is actually intended for arthritis, but when applied the bare skin of the buttocks it creates a very intense burning sensation similar to the results of a spanking.  This is a powerful "spanking" alternative, so please be careful when using this cream.  Don't use too much.  It creates an extremely painful burning sensation.

The husband applies a very small amount of this cream (about the size of a drop of water) to the bare skin of his wife's buttocks (on each cheek) and rubs it in thoroughly, similar to how one would rub lotion into one's skin.  The sting takes a minute or two to intensify, but the burning sensation will continue to intensify for the next 30 minutes or so.  It feels exactly like a rather serious spanking.  Rubbing the buttocks afterwards can intensify the stinging, and water (i.e. a shower) can make it worse as well.

The buttocks will turn red in approximately 30-45 minutes after applying the Capsaicin Cream.  The stinging can last for hours, depending on how much cream you apply.  This is a very intense burning sensation, so I recommend no more than the amount I've specified above on each cheek.  It will get you the results you're looking for, I promise.  It's very very intense.

The whole process of applying the cream takes 2-3 minutes.  Read all information on the label, and make sure your spouse is not allergic to any of the ingredients within the Capsaicin Cream before applying to the bare skin.

Bengay can also be used.

Adam and Eve Frisky Feather Duster

Silent Spanking Option #2: Heating Pad - This option takes some time since the pad has to heat up in order to be effective.  That can take up to 10 minutes, depending on the heating pad.  How the husband (or head of the household) conducts this silent spanking is pretty straight forward - the wife sits down on this heating pad for a period of approximately 10-15 minutes.  I don't recommend any longer than 15 minutes as the buttocks may become numb, rendering it ineffective.  For a slightly more intense effect, the husband can spank the buttocks approximately 5 times before the wife sits on the heating pad.

The heat from the pad will intensify the pain/stinging the longer the wife sits on it.  It's most effective if the wife sits on the heating pad bare-bottomed, but it can also be effective if she sits on it with a thin layer of clothing over her buttocks (pajamas, sweat pants, mesh shorts, etc.).  If she wears a thin layer of clothing, I would recommend increasing the time between 3-5 minutes.

Silent spankings can be effective for those times where you're in a hotel room, or traveling in the car, or when you have guests at your home, or when you're guests at someone else's home, or if you're just plain in a hurry...any situation where a traditional spanking just isn't possible.  They can be effective as a one-time punishment, or they can be used as a temporary punishment until you're able to conduct a traditional spanking in privacy.

Clint, the blogger of Learning DD, recommends anyone who has serious questions about the DD lifestyle to leave comments on his blog.  Click the Silent Spankings link above to access his above listed post. Oh, and though I could be wrong, I suspect if I were Clint's wife (I'm not), I'd probably be in serious trouble right now.  Sorry, Clint.

Six Sentence Sunday - January 15 - Deadly Enchantment

This material is Not Safe For Work. If you’re not over 18, please explore elsewhere.

Welcome to my 6SS, a regular Sunday feature that I will also be posting on the New Concepts Publishing blog. In this feature, I hope to provide you with tiny little tidbits of the most sexy and sensuous moments in my books. Just 6 sentences, that I intend to build from my Horny Hump Day 3 sentence feature. My current post for 6SS, is from my 2nd book, Deadly Enchantment. A shape-shifting wizard romance published by New Concepts Publishing, Deadly Enchantment concerns a young psychic woman facing off with the dark wizard of Ravenscroft, whom she is convinced has brutally slaughtered her sister in a fit of jealousy on their wedding night. In this segment, Serena Cunningham, disguised as the sister of her cousin, has been coerced into submitting to Dominic Wescroft's purity validation.  Although she expects him to validate her virginity, she never imagined she'd find pleasure when he delves into the dark recesses of her body and mind.

* * * * *

While slowly moving his finger in and out of her in a way that had Serena moaning like a cat in heat, Westcroft bent forward until his lips practically touched her ear.  “Give into the feeling, Serena.  I want you to take pleasure from my touch in the same way I take pleasure from touching you.”
Unable to stop, even if she’d wanted to, Serena arched her back while her body sapped every inch of will from her conscious mind.  Her hips met his deep, intimate stroking with an instinctive, wanton rhythm.  “Please,” she begged, uncertain what it was she wanted, but certain she would die if he stopped.

Frisky Fridays - Erotic Romance and Spanking Blogs

After a little searching, I came across Cara Bristol's Blog and she released an article on Dec. 17, 2010 entitled "My Favorite Erotic Romance and Spanking Blogs."  Intrigued, I decided to check it out for Frisky Friday.

Below is what she posted:

What makes a good blog? For me, it’s two things: it has to informative and it has to be entertaining. I’d like to share my favorite blogs related to erotic romance and spanking:

Erotic romance writing blogs – These blogs offer insight into various aspects of romance writing, author interviews, book excerpts, new release info, and promotion tips.

Editor Blogs

Redlines and Deadlines - Written by the editors of Ellora’s Cave, an erotic romance publisher, it offers great info. about the craft of romance writing.

Spanking blogs – I like the blogs that provide insight. Why people spank, they various ways they do it, what they think and feel about it, how it affects their relationships.

There are three that I regularly check:

My Bottom Smarts - A good go-to source of information for all things related to spanking.

Finding Sara - This site offers the reflections of a woman in domestic discipline marriage.

Husbandly Touch - This blog offers the perspective of the husband in domestic discipline marriage.

I liked Cara's suggestions.  These blogs all had interesting information to share, and I hope you enjoyed them, too.  I'm always looking for fascinating tidbits, blogs or topics to share on Frisky Fridays, so if you have any thoughts or recommendations please leave a comment or an e-mail for me.

Thanks, and don't forget to keep checking back to see what else we've come up with.  This is a "Naughty" Blog, after all.

Something Different - Post by Stephanie Abbott - aka S.A. Reid

Confessions of a Self-Published Author
By Stephanie Abbott

It’s true.  I couldn’t get published the traditional way.  I am one of those authors who wanted to write novels from an early age – eight or nine.  In my teens, I wrote well enough that I was routinely accused of plagiarism by English teachers.  (And was thrilled and flattered each time!)  But what I wrote in my late teens and twenties wasn’t ready for prime time.  I could string together words fairly well.  But I hadn’t figured out who I was or what I wanted to say.  By the time I did – my mid-thirties – the publishing world was beginning to change.  I landed an agent.  Two manuscripts received consideration by major publishers: the famous “Big Six.”  But both were turned down.  My agent said it’s just the way of things now – new voices are seen as too much of a risk.  I don’t know.  All I know is, the book the Big Six turned down in just two weeks – a cozy mystery called Ice Blue, written under the pseudonym Emma Jameson – has sold wonderfully for me as a self-pubbed book.  So I’m glad I gave up my original dream and took a detour.

I hate typos and formatting issues even more than my readers.  There is a rumor going around about self-pubbed, independent authors – that we don’t care if our book looks like garbage on your Kindle, Nook, etc.  That we figure you, the reader, should just suck it up because our ebooks are less expensive than those from the Big Six.  In my case, it’s not true.  I have a copyeditor.  I have a formatter.  In my latest book Protection, sharp-eyed readers recently located five typos despite the copyeditor and formatter.  So I spent a weekend downloading new software and learning to use it so I could fix those typos and put out a “clean” edition as fast as possible.  I respect my readers and whether my book costs $0.00 or $100.00, I want the result to look professional for one simple reason.  So you’ll never be torn out of my story by recognition of a small error.

Cover anxiety can be crippling.  When I was waiting to hear which big publisher would sign me (go ahead and laugh, I can) I was a little worried what that publisher’s Art Dept. would do to my beloved book.  Each one is like a child.  Suppose the cover models are ugly?  Suppose the cover is so bland and typical it’s indistinguishable from everything around it?  Authors have complained for years about the covers forced upon them.  But as a self-pubbed author, guess what?  I get to commission the artist.  I get to decide.  And the responsibility is overwhelming.  For my cozy mystery, I let the artist dictate.  For my second bookSomething Different, I wanted a different cover than the usual m/m romance.  Instead of two guys, one shirtless, the other looking handsome but pensive – “Will I allow myself to love?” – I picked a scene like the place, Brixton Park, where Michael and James meet.

So now I want to fearlessly open myself up to a cover critique.  Please comment and tell me if Something Different needs a new cover, or if I should keep the one I have!  All comments are welcome.  I can take it.
About the author - Stephanie Abbott is the face behind the popular pseudonym, S.A. Reid. Well-known for her “real and likeable characters”, she also writes  paranormal fiction (a new series titled Past Lives is currently being penned), fantasy, and sci-fi. Additionally, she also pens cozy mysteries as Emma Jameson.

Leave a comment, and I'll enter you in the contest to win a PDF copy of Something Different (current cover, of course).  But you have to leave a comment to be entered.  Contest ends 1/22/2012
