It's WIP it UP Wednesday, and that means I get to share another teasing excerpt from one of my books. Yay!
My submission for this week is from my 4th book, A Dom's Dilemma, a BDSM/spanking novel that is sometimes playful, sometimes serious and sometimes terrifying, published by Blushing Books. Kelly and Jim, the two main characters, were secondary characters in Arrested by Love. Though this story stands on its own, if you read Arrested by Love, you'll most likely recognize some of the scenes, since we see a little bit of Kyle and Tiffany in this book, too.
In this excerpt, near the end of Chapter Ten, Detective Jim Evans is tending to Kelly Franklin after he's administered an exceptionally harsh punishment for her defiance and disobedience.
An experienced Dom, Jim has no problem punishing a sub when she's been naughty, but Kelly chose to deliberately defy an order after he took pains to stress her disobedience would carry a significant penalty. Unfortunately, Kelly thought he'd forgive her for the surprise visit she decided to pay him at his precinct, which forced Jim to follow through on his promise. Afterward, he needs to make sure his lesson stuck, since he never wants to be so harsh with her ever again.

Kelly
gave another long sigh. She really
didn't want to do this anymore, especially since the last lesson was the one
that hurt the most. Finally, she said,
"Never display a show of affection toward you in public."
When
he didn't answer for a moment, she got worried.
That was what she'd done that had gotten him so angry, wasn't it? All she'd wanted was to show him how deeply
she felt and he'd pushed her away.
She
must have tensed, because he said, "Easy, darlin'. Be still now.
I'm not angry, I'm just thinkin'."
"Wasn't
that right?" she asked, turning to gaze up at him.
He
appeared to be seriously considering her question. "Well, I do believe it was a lesson you
learned today, although it's not one I meant to teach."
"What
do you mean?"
"Kelly,
you're a very demonstrative person, which isn't necessarily bad, even though it
is inappropriate for our current situation."
She
shook her head. "I'm not sure I
understand. Do you want me to touch you
or not?"
He
bent down to place a kiss on her hair.
"Darlin', of course I want you to touch me, but you shouldn't do it
without my permission. You do know that
is one of the rules, don't you, Kelly?"

Following the rules can be tough... especially when you have to go against your own personality in order to comply. I feel for poor Kelly... I'd be in the same boat :)
ReplyDeleteMy gut kind of ached for her in this scene. I loved her vulnerability and neediness in this book, even though she was a bit clingy at times. Jim was always in tune with her moods too, which I appreciated. A LOT of emotional tenderness between them.
ReplyDeleteThank you Christina and Kim. Kim, I do agree Kelly was clingy, which is why I'm thinking of doing a prequel to show some of her history and partly explain why she's the way she is.
ReplyDeleteThis is why I don't think I would ever be a good sub. I'm stubborn. I have this things that if you are mine, I should be able to touch you when I want, especially if you can touch me when you want. I can see how her personallity causes her confusion. Great snippet. :)
