Guest Post - 5/1/20 - "Mistletoe in the City" by Amber Daulton #New Adult #Contemporary Romance

Krista treated herself to a bad boy for Christmas, but will the heat between her and Derek last well into the New Year?

Excerpt:

Hurt filled her eyes instead of the hope and understanding he wanted. “You’re not as considerate as I thought. You should respect my feelings, not ignore them.” She turned her scowl toward his phone. “Go ahead and take care of business, Derek. I’m obviously not as important as the tenant in U3.” Krista pivoted away from him and grabbed her things from the floor.
Derek snatched her arm before she reached the door. “That’s not fair.”
Krista jerked away from him. “Leave me alone. I need distance for a little while.”
His heart pounded in his throat. “What the hell are you talking about? Everything’s fine.”
Tears welled in her eyes. “No, it’s not. I lost twenty-five dollars from my cash fund yesterday at work, and thirteen dollars the day before. Someone stole a necklace from my table last Sunday at the craft fair. I like you, Derek, but you’re a distraction. I think about you too much but that’s my problem, not yours.” She wrapped her arms around her chest. “I thought my life would make more sense once I moved out on my own, but I’m still confused. We’re moving too fast. I hate to say this, but let’s take some time apart.”
Anger, confusion and hurt burned through his veins. “So I guess I’ll tell my mom that dinner on Friday is a no-go since you want nothing to do with me. Is that slowing down enough for you?” He stomped to the door and opened it. Tears slid down her cheeks but he couldn’t let that bother him. He had no idea what just fucking happened and he was too angry to care. “Let’s go, neighbor. I have a call to make. According to you, my job is more important than my girlfriend so I better live up to that shitty standard.”
Krista rushed out of the apartment and Derek slammed the door behind her. He banged his fist against the steel barrier and cursed at the top of his lungs. Anguish washed through him like an acid wave and sorrow clogged his throat but he knew he’d done nothing wrong. He always acted considerate with her, always respected her feelings, but he didn’t want to talk about Delia. He’d rather stare into the eyes of a woman he cared for and listen to Krista talk for hours.
He fell back against the door and wiped his hands over his face as tears pricked his eyes. Derek breathed deep to swallow the restraining ball in his throat. He replayed the conversation in his mind and the anger in his veins burned hotter than his shock and sadness.
“Damn you, Delia.” Everything was fine before Delia messed with Krista’s head. The conniving bitch probably got exactly what she wanted—trouble in paradise.

Blurb:

Krista Hartley never expected the unrequited love of her life, the irresistible Derek Weston, to work as the groundskeeper at the apartment building she just moved into. They barely spoke in high school but now, three years after graduation, they tore at each other’s clothes and jumped into bed together at every opportunity. After all, how could a hot-blooded woman say no to a sexy man with an eyebrow ring, a dragon tattoo and a deadly swagger?

A Christmas miracle drew Krista back into Derek’s life. He kissed her for the first time under mistletoe, pampered her with romantic candlelight dinners and memorized every inch of her delectable body with his tongue. He refused to let his dream girl slip through his fingers again but then another woman threatened their whirlwind romance. Hurt once before, Krista broke off their relationship and then Derek made a drunken mistake that could destroy their love forever. With just days to Christmas, he vowed to win back her heart and trust, and prove his innocence once and for all.

About the Author:

Amber Daulton is the author of the romantic-suspense series Arresting Onyx and several standalone novellas. Her books are published through The Wild Rose Press and Books to Go Now, and are available in ebook, print on demand, audio, and foreign language formats.

Do you have any advice for other writers?

Don’t put excessive demands, deadlines, and restrictions on yourself. Writing is difficult enough, and it’s only half of the work. I’m a plotter, not a panster, so I always recommend you plot out as much of the story as you can before you actually start writing it. By doing that, it’s easier to see plot holes, and you can avoid writing yourself into a corner later.
Handling rejections and bad reviews with finesse is a must, taking care of marketing and publicity demands is a handful but a requirement, and writing your next book while dealing with everything else is cause to bring out the vodka. But ‘tis the life of an author. You gotta love it, and I do with all my heart.

Just keep trying even when you’re feeling bad about yourself and the quality of your work. No one is perfect. Don’t rush a project; give it the love and attention it needs to be the best it can be. Both you as the writer, the book itself, and the readers deserve it.

Amber lives in North Carolina with her husband and four demanding cats. Feel free to visit her at http://www.amberdaultonauthor.blogspot.com.

#EggcerptExchange - 2/4/16 - JEM by Michelle Abbot #NewAdult #Romance @MichelleAbbott4

The Eggcerpt Exchange

Once you've finished reading about Jem, hop on over and see what Pam and Rob are up to now. http://michelle-abbott.weebly.com/home/eggcerptexchange-lessons-in-love

JEM
Two injured, stubborn souls meet unexpectedly. Will they save each other from their demons or have they been too damaged for too long to see past the pain?

Excerpt:

I can’t believe I’m being this bold, but I need him. I need some comfort, I need to feel safe. I want to forget that Connor has violated my space. And I can’t deny that I’ve been attracted to him from the start. Now is as good a time as any to act on it. We’re standing by my bed, facing each other. He looks awkward. I feel a nervous laugh bubbling inside me. Awkward is a strange look on him, he’s always so confident and self-assured. Maybe he’s having second thoughts. Before he has chance to change his mind I reach for the hem of his t-shirt. His muscles quiver as I slide his shirt up over his stomach. He grabs the hem, tugs it off over his head and lets it fall to the floor. Oh good, he’s eager. He stares at me, his pupils are dilated, his eyes look black. His lips are parted and he breaths heavily. His arms hang loose at his sides as his eyes rake over my body from head to toe. I shiver. He’s so strong, power radiates from him and I wonder if I can handle what I’m about to unleash. My hands shake as I pop the button on his jeans and slide down the zipper. His cock strains against his boxers. He groans as my fingers brush against him. My gaze trails along his chest and up to his face. His gaze is so intense and his muscles are strained. I have a feeling he’s trying to hold back, when really he wants to pounce on me and eat me alive. I shudder and let out a whimper. I want him to let loose, to claim me, to make me forget everything except him. I lick my dry lips and hold his gaze as I speak, “Don’t hold back. Take me, please.”

He hisses as he draws in a breath, his entire body trembles. I gasp as he lifts me off my feet and lays me down on my bed. In seconds he’s removed my clothes and tossed them to the floor. He stands at the foot of my bed and his gaze travels across my naked body, causing goosebumps to dance across my skin. His voice is low and deep. “I’ve wanted you for so long.” He kneels on the bed. He prefers it from behind. I roll onto my side, intending to get on all fours. His hands press against my shoulders and he pushes me down onto my back. His body surrounds mine. He’s heavy, solid, and warm. I feel cocooned, and safe. He lowers his head until his face is inches from mine. I feel his warm breath brush against my lips. “Mine,” he whispers. “You’re mine.”

Blurb:

Growing up, all Jem knew was hatred and the pain from his father's fists. Taunted by the kids at school, he was alone, until a girl with carrot coloured hair sat next to him.

She smiled.
She listened.
She cared.

She was his angel, and he knew he’d love her forever. But Jem’s father hurts him in a way he never expected by taking him away from her.

Now eighteen, scarred inside and out, Jem trusts no one and has worked hard to ensure he'll never be helpless again. But then he runs into his angel. The only problem is she doesn’t recognize him. Jem needs her to remember him, to show him that their time together meant to her what it did to him. For once in his life he wants to have mattered to someone, to her.

Devon is attracted to the muscular, tattooed, pierced hottie standing by the pub quiz machine. That is, until he punches a guy clean across the bar for daring to touch him. She’s had her fill of violent men and intends to avoid this one at all costs.

About the Author:

Author Michelle Abbott writes new adult romance. She currently has four books published.
She lives in the UK and hates describing herself in 3rd person.

She  loves to write new adult romance about heroes who begin as the underdog and are protective of their girl.

She's an avid reader of romance, is addicted to coffee and loves wine and chocolate, so yeah, not the most healthy eating and drinking habits :-) She spends way too much time online when she should be writing. She collects teddy bears and occasionally knits a couple of rows on a sweater she started years ago, which she may eventually finish in time to wear for her funeral :-)

A Character Interview with Jem

1.  Job?
I work at an amusement arcade, fixing the machines when they go wrong, handing out change and that kind of thing. It pays my bills, it’s local and the hours suit me.

2. Currently residing in...?
Hemsby in Norfolk. I’ve got a trailer right by the sea. There’s nothing like walking along the beach every morning. It keeps me calm.

3. Level of schooling, or self-taught?
I had to quit school when I was small because my asshole of a father moved us all at the last minute after someone reported him to social services for child cruelty. He never enrolled me in another school. I taught myself all I need to know.

4. Favorite food?
Don’t have one. I eat to live, I don’t live to eat.

5. Most important goal?
To get Devon to remember me and love me again. To take care of her and show her that I never forgot her and never stopped loving her.
