This snippet occurs at the beginning of Chapter 13. Germaine St. Justine and Claire Daniels have finally made up after their first fight and spent the night together making love. Despite being a two hundred year old vampire and therefore a night creature, Germaine gets up with Claire in the morning and informs her he'd like to watch her exercise. The idea makes Claire slightly uncomfortable, but she agrees. All is going well until Germaine suggests Claire remove her sweat suit so he can better gauge her workout's efficiency. When Claire informs him she doesn't have any tights, he suggests she exercise the way the greatest athletes in the world once did. It takes some convincing, but after her session Claire discovers that remaining unclothed with Germaine at the breakfast table felt right and incredibly intimate..
Knowing that he was watching her
take pleasure from his touch made Claire's response all that more intense. Her breakfast momentarily forgotten, she
gripped the counter, pressed back in her chair and responded to the man who had
taught her just how rapturous physical love could be. She arched her back with a cry of
un-suppressed delight, while her inner muscles contracted in ecstatic
release. Her skin aglow in the aftermath
of her orgasm, Claire felt as if every muscle in her body had turned more limp
and useless than her milk-soaked bran flakes.
She let out a soft sigh of contentment.
“And
they call Wheaties the breakfast of champions,” she murmured huskily.
