Lisa Becker Clicks With Her Two New Books #Interview

Given today's desire for quick information, delivered in 140 characters or less, Lisa Becker's two books "Click" and "Double Click" fit the bill.  Both books are written entirely in the form of e-mail exchanges between the characters giving readers a light and humorous romp through the trials and tribulations of on-line dating.  Lisa has agreed to join us today to talk a little about her books and share a few things about herself.  So, get your favorite beverage, pull up a chair, and join us for another fun journey into social media.

Hi, Lisa.  The first thing we want to know is what gave you the idea for Click and Double Click?  Did you include any experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?
Click is loosely based on my real-life dating (mis)adventures, as well as stories friends have shared with me.  In some cases, things are written as they actually occurred.  Other scenarios are exaggerated for entertainment value or comedic affect.  And some scenarios are completely fictionalized. But I really did go out on a date with someone I met online who started every story (no joke!) with “My buddies and I were out drinking last night.”

Ah, the truth comes out.  Your story is one of experience.  So, tell us....  What sort of research did you do for your book?
My husband and I met online on a popular dating website.  After we married, I was recalling some of the hilarious experiences that I had with both traditional and online dating.  I decided to capture some of them in writing and from there, a novel emerged.   The ultimate goal was to create a fun read for anyone who has ever had a bad date, been in love, been dumped, or is searching for "the one." But the happy ending is real.  Steve and I have been happily married for ten years and have two amazing daughters - ages 8 and 6.

I love happy endings, and think they are an absolute requisite.  So, which of your main characters do you identify with most?
I most readily identify with Renee.  She and I share a lot of qualities including a self-deprecating sense of humor, fear of flying, motivation in our PR careers and love of baking.  Mark is loosely based on a friend who encouraged me to try online dating.  He’s a terrific guy who is still himself searching for “the one.”   So if you know any nice single girls, let me know.  ;)  But, my favorite character is Shelley.  She’s confident, brash, outrageous and wholly unapologetic for her choices.  She was so fun to write.  Her hilarious habit of giving nicknames to her “man du jour” was inspired by a childhood friend of mine who had a nickname for a guy in college that she admired from across the dorm cafeteria.  She called him Maverick because he looked like Tom Cruise in Top Gun.  Much like Shelley, she is a self-confident, gorgeous, lovely gal and it wasn't long before they met and dated for a spell.

Why don't you tell us something personal about you, now?  Where do you write?
I sit in my home office at a HP desktop computer with a really big screen.  My eyes grow tired pretty easily in my old age ;)  And I like to write with the television on in the background.  When I first started writing, I was obsessed with Law & Order reruns.  Now I can’t seem to get enough of NCIS.  I guess there’s a part of me that likes to see justice served.

I enjoy NCIS, too, as well as Law and Order.  When do you write, morning or night?
I started writing the book after my husband and I married but before we had kids.  Then I had to take a break from writing due to the rigors of motherhood.  But I had always told myself – even as a little girl – that I would write a book one day.  So, I made the commitment to finish the book.  I wrote in the mornings while the girls were at school or at night after they went to sleep.  I made it a goal to write – even if only for a half hour – every day.

My hat's off to you.  I am not a morning person, so most of my heroines aren't either.  I love the titles of your books.  Tell us how you came up with them.
 I liked the double meaning of click – both “clicking” a mouse while using a computer for online dating and “clicking” or making a special connection with someone.  When it came time to right the sequel, a friend suggested Double Click which fit with the “happily ever after’s” in the book.  Upon seeing the Double Click cover, another friend said, “Can't wait for part three, "Right Click"; the story of how Renee becomes a conservative and falls madly in love with a one percenter!"  LOL!

Good to know you're planning a sequel.  Do you have a message in your novel(s) that you want readers to grasp from your books?
I’ve said many times before, if it happened for me, there’s hope for you.  And, as my grandmother used to say, for every chair, there’s a tush.  Love is out there; just be patient.  And concentrate on being a complete, happy and fulfilled person on your own.  When you are happy and secure in your own life, you will be much more attractive to someone else.  Second, there’s nothing like having a group of close friends who can support you when things get tough, laugh with you when things get ridiculous, console you when you’re down, and cajole you into doing things that they can see are good for you, but you are reluctant to embrace.
Hope is vital since we use it to manifest our dreams.   Given that you used hope as your general theme or message, can you name one entity (person, place or thing) you feel supported or inspired you to write outside of your family members.
I’ve been greatly influenced by Charles Rosen, one of the producers of the original Beverly Hills 90210.  I had interviewed him for an alumni magazine article while I was in graduate school. And I'll never forget what he told me:  "Don't fall in love with your words, because somebody above will probably change them."

After graduate school, I moved to Atlanta and worked at a small PR agency for nearly three years and then spent 13+ years with one of the largest global PR firms.  I’ve worked with some of the biggest consumer companies in the world including McDonald’s, Ford, Sony and Gatorade.  And I’ve spent countless hours writing news releases, bylined articles, marketing proposals, brochures, advertising copy, public service announcements, radio copy, mat columns, fact sheets, photo captions, media alerts, pitch letters, letters to the editor, video news releases, etc.  I’ve carried Mr. Rosen’s words with me every day as colleagues, bosses and clients have “changed my words” sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse.

When it came time for me to write something personal, based on my own experiences and initially for my own pleasure, I relished the opportunity to write what I wanted, how I wanted and when I wanted.
You've clearly written books that are reflective of your style, and because they are so different from the norm, your unusual style posed a certain risk.  What was the hardest part of writing your book?
The hardest part was keeping the timeline and email exchanges organized.  Sometimes, I would have to look back a few pages earlier to make sure I had cc’d or bcc’d the right people on an email and that the subject lines were consistent.  In some cases, there were replies to forwards to replies.  Keeping it all straight was a challenge, but essential to the book’s format.

I can imagine how you might find that challenging.  Tell us how long it took you to write your current book?
Click: An Online Love Story was an 8-year endeavor.  Once I released it, the feedback was beyond flattering.  I was thrilled that people were feeling invested in the characters and wanted to know more about the characters.  So I wrote a sequel, Double Click.  That book took about 8 months to write, and a few extra to edit, fine tune and publish.  I hope people find both books to be light and breezy reads.

Kudos to you for trying something new and different.  Now, for something fun.  If you could have any super power, what would it be?
Wonder Woman and her magic lasso had the right idea.  I would want the ability to compel people to tell the truth.  That way, I would know for certain whether my husband really thinks I can’t sing or is just teasing me.

I'm sure he loves your voice.  Okay, let's give readers a little more information about your books and where they can purchase them.

Click: An Online Love Story Synopsis - Fast approaching her 30th birthday and finding herself not married, not dating, and without even a prospect or a house full of cats, Renee Greene, the heroine of Click: An Online Love Story, reluctantly joins her best guy pal on a journey to find love online in Los Angeles. The story unfolds entirely through emails between Renee and her best friends (anal-compulsive Mark, the overly-judgmental Ashley and the over-sexed Shelley) as well as the gentlemen suitors she meets online. From the guy who starts every story with "My buddies and I were out drinking one night," to the egotistical “B” celebrity looking for someone to stroke his ego, Renee wades into the shallow end of the dating (cess)pool and endures her share of hilarious and heinous cyber dates. Fraught with BCC's, FWD's and inadvertent Reply to All's, readers will cheer, laugh, cry and cringe following the email exploits of Renee and friends. And ultimately, they will root for Renee to "click" with the right man.

Sneak Peek Sunday - April 28 - Deadly Enchantment #SPeekSunday #Shapeshifter #MFRWAuthor

An unhappy shape shifter can be a dangerous companion....

Sneak Peek Sunday is a new (at least for me) hop that shares excerpts.  Since I love to share, I thought I would participate.  What we're doing is sharing six paragraphs from a published work or a WIP (work in progress).

My submission for this week is from my 2nd book, Deadly Enchantment.  A shapeshifting wizard romance set in Victorian England published by New Concepts Publishing,

In this excerpt, which occurs near the end of the first Chapter and immediately follows my March 31st Sneak Peek Sunday, Dominic Westcroft has returned from London to discover his sister has invited several young women to his home, so he can select a new bride.  Except, Dominic has no intention of ever marrying again.

* * * * *
            “And what future would that be, my dear?” Dominic inquired, his voice a soft purr of menace.  “Have you turned psychic all of a sudden?”
            “You know I haven’t,” Regina replied with a slight grimace at his barb, “but it appears that I have a better memory than your own.”  She leaned forward slightly.  “Weren’t you the one who said that you needed a virgin wife by your thirtieth birthday to complete your powers?  According to my rather rudimentary math skills, that leaves you less than a year to find a suitable lady and marry her.  Since you did not seem so inclined to do this for yourself, I simply made the arrangements for you.”
            “I but told you what Zaltasar informed me, I didn’t say I believed it.”
            “Oh?  You don’t believe your mentor’s prediction regarding your powers, but you have no difficulty believing that you may have killed your wife in a fit of passion and anger when you found her and Terrence together in your wedding chamber?”
            Dominic’s anger slithered out of him in a deadly-hot tendril of green smoke.  Briefly closing his eyes, he directed the sentient tentacle toward the window and away from his sister.  “I didn’t say that, but it’s possible, yes.  It’s not what I want to believe, but the evidence clearly seems to indicate I was responsible.”
            “Really?  And isn’t it due to that very same evidence that you were found innocent of the crime?” she countered, barely acknowledging the snake-like trail of green rage that sought a convenient target to unleash its wrath upon.
* * * * *

Though Dominic loves his sister dearly, at the moment he'd like nothing better than to wring her lovely neck.

Saturday Spankings - April 27 - A Dom's Dilemma #SatSpanks #BDSM #MFRWAuthor

She needed his protection, except he insisted on her honest submission first.

Reading this material at Work could get you spanked.

Welcome to the Saturday Spankings blog hop.  My stories are all M/f with the dominant male determined to protect the woman he cares for and loves, or grows to love, by doing whatever it takes to ensure her safety and continued health.  This includes administering a spanking when she needs one.

My submission for this week is from my first BDSM novel, A Dom's Dilemma, published by Blushing Books.

In this scene, which immediately follows my March 9 Saturday Spankings entry, Jim, a former Texan who by day works as a police detective and by night lives and plays as a Dom, is in the Velvet Chains BDSM medical station attempting to give his new submissive, Kelly Franklin, an anal exam. When Kelly goes ballistic, Jim suspects fear, rather than brattiness, is responsible for her reaction.  After giving her repeated opportunities to use her safeword, Jim is left with little choice.  She is being disrespectful, defiant and acting like a brat, all of which screams punishment to a Dom.

* * * * *
            Holding her down by her shoulders, he brought his hand down once.  "You are actin' worse than a bratty, little girl, sub.  And this is how I punish bratty, little girls."
            "Go to hell, you fucking pervert," she cried back, her voice angry and terrified, yet she still didn't say the one word that would get him to stop.
            Bringing his hand down even more firmly a second time, he said, "You need your mouth washed out with soap, and a good ole fashioned paddlin' on the spankin' bench to my mind.  But that's another ten you've earned."
            "Noooo!  Oww!  You're hurting me.  Let me go!"
            "You aren't given the orders here, sub.  I am,” he insisted, punctuating each of the words he wished to emphasize with a sharp smack.  “And for your information spankin's are supposed to hurt.  So, you'd best get used to it, because I'm not plannin' on stoppin' until you convince me you're gonna start behavin'.  After that, we'll begin your punishment spankin'."  His hand came down smartly enough that time to sting his palm.
* * * * *
Though Jim can be strict, he likes a bit of spunk in a sub.  However, Kelly has crossed a line even he can't permit.

Horny Hump Day - April 24 - Mortal Illusions #HornyHDay #Vampires #MFRW

Most vampires drink blood, but not all of them go for the neck.

This material is Not Safe For Work. If you’re not over 18, please explore elsewhere.

Welcome to Horny Hump Day, a regular Wednesday feature! In this blog loop, we hope to provide you with tiny little tidbits of the most sexy and sensuous moments in our books. Just 3 sentences. The books might be already published, works-in-progress, or even classic literature we think you’ll like.

This post for HHD is from my 1st book, Mortal Illusions. A vampire romance published by New Concepts Publishing, Mortal Illusions is currently the first in a series of 3 books.  Its sequel, Fatal Desire, is currently under production.

This snippet occurs about a third way into the book after Claire Daniels has finally convinced Germaine St. Justine, the two hundred year-old vampire, she hopes will ultimately save her brother's life, to make love. Claire's convinced herself she knows what she's getting into, but she's about to discover she's wrong.  Possibly, dead wrong.
.
* * * * *
             “I'm ready for you, aren't you going to--”
            “You read too many horror stories--just relax, Claire,” he murmured before lowering his head between her thighs.
            “No!” she gasped, grabbing fistfuls of his hair in protest, but the rhythmic stroking of his tongue soon had her gasping for a totally different reason.

Though a vampire's bite can be painful, the pleasure it ultimately brings is pure ecstasy.

Sneak Peek Sunday - April 21 - Mortal Illusions #SPeekSunday #Vampires #MFRW

For a vampire, love means watching someone you care about die.

Sneak Peek Sunday is a new (at least for me) hop that shares excerpts.  Since I love to share, I thought I would participate.  What we're doing is sharing six paragraphs from a published work or a WIP (work in progress).

My submission for this week is from my 1st book, Mortal Illusions. A vampire romance published by New Concepts Publishing, Mortal Illusions is currently the first in a series of 3 books.  Its sequel, Fatal Desire, is currently under production.

In this excerpt, which is the beginning of the first chapter, Germaine St. Justine has sensed his former lover's pain, and is on his way to her.
.
* * * * *

            He closed his eyes and reached out again with his mind.  The swaddling haze of a drug-induced sleep had muzzled the gnawing pain he'd felt from her earlier.  Even so, she waited for him.  She hadn't tried to reach him, nor had he sought any contact with her for more than ten years.  Nonetheless, Marguerite Danielson knew he would seek her out tonight.  Modern medicine had done all it could, it was his turn now--just as it had been so many times before.
            The moment he stepped beneath the unnatural glare of the life-draining fluorescent tubes inside the treatment center, Germaine shielded his eyes behind the high-standing collar of his coat.  The special contacts he wore enabled him to see in light that would normally blind him, but they didn't eliminate the pain.
            He hated hospitals.  Hated their bare, white-tiled walls made even more sterile by their color-leeching lights and cotton-swathed staff.  No wonder everyone looked near death within these hallowed institutions that reeked of alcohol and iodine, ammonia and--blood.
            The distinctive coppery scent taunted and teased his senses the moment he stepped through the sliding doors.  Gritting his teeth against the wolfish hunger the heady lure evoked, he forced his thoughts back to his task and continued toward the elevator.  A nearby orderly cast a wary glance in his direction.  Having neither the time nor the patience to rebut a volley of bothersome inquiries, Germaine merely caught and held his stare.  Seconds later the bewildered attendant turned back to the perky nurse's aide he'd been talking to--completely and blissfully unaware of Germaine's presence.
            On the seventh floor the lighting had been dimmed to help promote whatever rest its troubled residents might find.  Long, white tubes recessed behind partitioned rectangles of opaque plastic gave off little more illumination than a night light.  Germaine's eyes instantly adjusted, allowing him to see clearly and without pain.  The corridor was empty, but he knew the room number by heart--713.  As he silently traversed the narrow gray and white tiled hallway, he could hear the soft moans of distress punctuating the uneasy sleep of the patients.
            The seventh floor was the terminal floor.

Saturday Spankings - April 20 - Arrested by Love #SatSpanks #Spanking #MFRW

He caught her speeding in a school zone and decided she needed to learn even civil disobedience could have very painful consequences.

I was going to post another excerpt from my BDSM book, but since I received a request to continue posting from this one, and I do aim to please, my submission for this week is again from my first spanking novel, Arrested by Love, published by Blushing Books.

  In this scene, which is a direct continuation from last week's entry, Kyle, a traffic patrol officer, has pulled over a young woman for speeding in a school zone.  Tiffany has been in love with Kyle since she was ten, so this isn't the first time she's faced the strict police officer because of some prank she's pulled.  It's not even the first time she's been caught speeding, which means she's spent a fair amount of time over his knees.  Even so, Kyle is prepared to let her go with a warning and a ticket until she propositions him.  Angry, partly because he's tempted to accept her bribe, Kyle decides to offer her a choice.  She can either spend a night in jail, or place herself over his lap and receive fifty-six swats for her reckless driving.  It doesn't help matters any when Tiffany compounds her infraction by swearing at Kyle, but he remains resolute

* * * * *

This time he wouldn't be dissuaded by tearful pleas or cries of pain. His darling girl was going to learn there were consequences for her reckless behavior and breaking the law. Although, admittedly he had been intrigued by her proposition.
Crossing his arms over his chest he chuckled over the memory of just how surprised she'd been when he stuck his tongue into her mouth. She would have been at least ten times more surprised if he'd let her do exactly what she'd suggested.
Checking his watch again, Kyle walked back and opened the door. "Your five minutes are up, honey. Have you made your decision?"
* * * * *

Hmm.  Kyle loves Tiffany, but he takes her safety and obedience seriously.  Besides, in his mind the darling minx deserves this spanking at the very least.

Horny Hump Day - April 17 - Acting Lessons #HornyHDay #MFRW #WIP

Splendorous things can happen when the mind and body are in tune.

This material is NSFW (Not Safe For Work). If you’re not over 18, please explore elsewhere.

Welcome back to Horny Hump Day, a regular Wednesday feature! In this blog loop, we hope to provide you with tiny erotic tidbits of the most sexy and sensuous moments in our books. Just 3 sentences.  And boy is that hard to do, sometimes....

My submission for this week is an unedited sneak peek from my current WIP (Work In Progress) tentatively titled, Acting Lessons.

He was a strict and demanding college professor turned professional director who excelled at giving acting lessons.  She was his shy and uncertain former student who became a professional actress under his tutelage.  They fell in love, married, and won two Tony Awards before tragedy struck and a simple kiss ripped them apart.

After a six month separation, Peter Thorton decides to take matters into his own hands by making his famous wife, Kate, an offer she wouldn't refuse.  Plainly put, he wants her back and he intends to do whatever is necessary to achieve his goal, even if it means giving his stubborn, willful leading lady a daily reminder over his knee that she promised to obey him.

In this scene, which occurs in chapter six directly following my March 20 entry, Peter Thorton has just finished giving his wife, Kate, a relatively mild spanking for defying his instructions, and is preparing to make love to her for the first time in over two years.  Peter adores Kate, but he's not above teasing her a little to make her beg, or at least verbalize what she wants.

* * * * *
             The man was a devious devil at times, but he never failed to bring her to a glorious climax.  His gentle nibbling caused Kate's body to thrum as she parted her legs in an invitation he declined to accept.  When she gave a soft moan of protest, he gazed at her.
* * * * *

Got my edits done, and the book submitted.  While I wait to hear, I thought I'd post another excerpt for Horny Hump Day.

I hope you enjoyed this sneak preview. Your comments are encouraged. Please stop by the  Horny Hump Day blog site  to get a peek at some of the other author's fine offerings.

Sneak Peek Sunday - April 14 - A Dom's Dilemma #SPeekSunday #BDSM

He demanded her obedience, but what she wanted was his love.

It's Sneak Peek Sunday again and that means I get to share another 6 paragraphs from one of my books.  Yay!

My submission for this week is from my 4th book, A Dom's Dilemma, a BDSM/spanking novel that is sometimes playful, sometimes serious and sometimes terrifying, published by Blushing Books.  Kelly and Jim, the two main characters, were secondary characters in Arrested by Love.  Though this story stands on its own, if you read Arrested by Love, you'll most likely recognize some of the scenes, since we see a little bit of Kyle and Tiffany in this book, too.

In this excerpt, which is near the end of Chapter Thirteen, Kelly Franklin is recovering at Jim's home after receiving an exceptionally harsh and severe paddling administered by her new Dom, Jim Evans.  They have only known each other for a few days, so they are still learning about the other's wants, needs and desires.  He has told her unequivocally that there will be no sex between them until he determines she's ready for it.  However, now that Kelly's feeling better, her body isn't in total agreement with Jim's edict.
.
* * * * *
            "I don't think you need an escort today, but I want to make sure you're as steady as you think you are.  So, get out of bed and start makin' your way to the bathroom, while I watch.  If you do okay, I'll leave you on your own, while I make breakfast."
            Now that sounded wonderful to Kelly, so she carefully got out of bed and made it down the hall, adding a few little wiggles, without mishap.  She heard his snort, so she knew her hip action hadn't been missed.  She so loved teasing him.  And, wonder of wonders, he hadn't given her a list of do's and don'ts today.  Once she shut the door, she was free to do anything her little heart desired.  She could even take a shower without vulture man breathing down her neck.  Okay, she would like to take a shower with him, but only if they could play, and she wasn't talking Dungeons and Dragons.
            But, since he currently held a "no frisky" policy over her, she preferred to shower by herself.  Showering with him would be much too much of a temptation, and she didn't want to risk a punishment by placing her hands where she hadn't been given permission to put them.  So she turned on the water in the shower stall, tested the temperature, then stepped in, and just as quickly jumped back out again, barely managing to hold back her scream when the water struck her more tender area.
            Okay, maybe this wasn't going to be as easy as she thought.  Biting her tongue, she tried to ease in gradually, but those sharp little darts of warm H2O hurt when they aimed for her bottom.  Deciding to wash only one side, keeping her tender backside protectively turned away from the painful barrage, she quickly worked on the areas needing the most attention, then stared at his bottle of shampoo with longing.
            Unable to resist, she popped open the plastic top and inhaled the woodsy fragrance, and, because it smelled like him, the scent alone started to build fluttery tingles between her thighs.  Yup, she needed to take care of that flutter quickly, or she'd be all over him the minute she got out, which would probably get her in worse trouble.
            Knowing he wouldn't approve of what she contemplated, since a sub pleasuring herself without her Dom's consent was definitely against D/s rules, gave Kelly a moment's pause.  But seeing and wanting him without being able to touch was somehow worse.  So, sometimes a girl had to do what a girl had to do, and beg for forgiveness afterwards.  Kelly pressed her back against the cool shower wall, careful not to let her butt hit it, soaped-up her fingers, closed her eyes, spread her legs, and began coaxing herself toward a climax.
* * * * *

Kelly is about to find herself in a whole lot of trouble....

Show me an angry vampire, and I'll show you an unhappy mortal.

NOTE: Reading this material at Work could get you spanked.

Welcome to the Saturday Spankings blog hop.  My stories are all M/f with the dominant male determined to protect the woman he cares for and loves, or grows to love, by doing whatever it takes to ensure her safety and continued health.  This includes administering a spanking when she needs one.

My submission for this week is from my 1st book, Mortal Illusions. A vampire romance published by New Concepts Publishing, Mortal Illusions is currently the first in a series of 3 books.  Its sequel, Fatal Desire, is currently under production.

When Claire Daniels discovers Germaine St. Justine is a vampire, she sets a plan in motion to convince him to cure her brother of AIDS.  Though an innocent in sexual relations, Claire is savvy enough to realize the best way to gain Germaine's support is to have an intimate relationship with him.  However, having a vampire take you to bed isn't quite the same as sleeping with the boy next door.  There are complications.  And Germaine is dominant enough to add a few more Claire hadn't expected.

In this segment, Claire has sought Germaine out at his private night club for the first time, only to discover his club offers much more than drinks for those with and without fangs.  The day room at Illusions is equipped to administer punishments as well.  While Claire is trying to reconcile with Germaine, one of his vampires enters the club with his mate in tow and demands permission to publicly chastise her.
