#MFRWHooks - 9/16/15 - A Simple Misunderstanding - Family isn't always the best answer #DD #CorbinsBend

It's Book Hooks Wednesday!  Yay!  And I'm sharing another excerpt from my new spanking romance in the Corbin's Bend series, A Simple Misunderstanding.  It's sequel, Past Interference is included in the Love in the Rockies anthology.

He came to her rescue when she needed him most, almost to lose her when she disobeyed him.

In this scene, which occurs near the beginning of Chapter Six, Eleanor Benson (Elly) is asleep in intensive care, recovering from surgery after she's been attacked by her husband.  Gerald Douglas (Jerry), who feels responsible for Elly's condition, has remained posted at her bedside in ICU when his friend Brent calls to inform him he called Elly's husband to let him know where she was. Though Jerry understands Brent's reasoning, he wants Elly safe. So, after she's spent her first night in the hospital, he checks in with Elly's nurse to get an update on her condition, then makes sure the hospital is on the watch for Elly's abusive husband before he rejoins Elly. But when he starts to ask her what happened between her and her husband, she looks dismayed, so he backs down.

He patted her hand. “Forget I said anything. We’ll talk when you’re better.”
She toyed with her covers. “I’m not sure I’ll want to discuss it then, either.”
“We’ll see. Is there someone we should call for you, like your mother or father?”
“No. I don’t want them here.”
“Okay.” Something in her tone told him she had good reasons why she’d rather not have her parents visit, but he’d need to uncover those later, too. “How about siblings? Do you have any brothers or sisters we might contact for you?”
“I’ve got a sister, but she’s married with kids. Besides, she already hates Arthur, so seeing me like this would destroy her.”
“I believe she’d be more upset to learn you didn’t call her when you needed her, Elly.”
“No. I don’t want her here, either. Besides, I’ll probably get out of the hospital tomorrow.”

Jerry is determined to protect Elly from Arthur, but he needs help to ensure Elly remains safe.

M/F Domestic Discipline in Colorado.

Blurb:

Though Arthur and Eleanor Benson have been practicing domestic discipline for three months since their wedding, he insists moving to Corbin's Bend, where domestic discipline is the norm rather than the exception, will revitalize their marriage. Elly has doubts, but since Arthur is the undisputed head of their household, they move. However, once Arthur becomes immersed in a community where spanking is not only permitted, but encouraged, his personality undergoes a dramatic change. Accusing his submissive wife of being lazy, disorganized and disobedient, he employs creative methods of pain and humiliation to mold Elly from the imperfect woman he married into the perfect woman he desires. And Elly finds herself a virtual prisoner in her own home, accountable only to the man who rules her life with a cane.

In his years as a vet, Jerry Douglas has seen what abuse does to animals, and he recognizes those same signs in Elly Benson during her daily escape to the dog park with her tiny poodle. Jerry steadfastly supports the tenets of domestic discipline and enjoys the freedom Corbin's Bend offers its residents, but he remains fiercely protective of anyone in need of a champion. And when he witnesses evidence of harsh handling, his instinct is to rush in and rescue. Problem is Elly Benson is a married and consenting adult who insists all her bruises and welts are nothing more than a simple misunderstanding between her and her husband, until the day Arthur Benson takes his authority and discipline one-step too far, endangering Elly's life.
